“5 year anniversary and 2nd time at Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

My wife and I spent our honeymoon at Hill Farm Inn 5 years ago and vowed we'd be back for our 5 year anniversay. This last time as with our first was wonderful. We stayed in the same suite (Obediah Suite) and the service and food was just as great as the last time we were here. Al and Lisa could not be any more friendly as with their entire staff. The Inn is rustic as it is an old farm house and that gives it the character it has. Lisa made reservations for us for two resturants while we were here and obviously mentioned we were on our anniversary as both places gave us wonderful intimate seating as private as they could make. The best part of the stay by far is the breakfast. The food is awesome!! Not only do you get your choice of several itmes off their list every meal comes with a fresh baked item of the day. My personal favorite, MAPLE MUFFINS! The pancakes are to die for made from scratch. Al even drives to Bennington to get quality bacon from a butcher down there instead of getting regular store bacon. How do I know this, we took the time to TALK to Lisa. She is a wonderful woman who works very hard to please her guests. If she is not too busy and you get a chance to talk to her you will see what a kind heart she has. If you want a comfortable place to stay with food that you wish you had at home stay at Hill Farm Inn. Oh almost forgot, the cookies! Lisa puts out cookies, coffee, hot water with tes and cocoa packs out in the afternoon and evening. This is a complimentary thing they do. The cookies are also home made by her and her staff. Chocolate chip and Oatmeal Raisin. Do yourself a favor, stay here!

“Womderful stay at Hill Farm Inn!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

We spent two fun nights at Hill Farm Inn and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The innkeepers are very accommodating, breakfast was terrific with your choice of several meals offered. The farm is centrally located with easy access to both Bennington and Manchester. Definitely go to Christmas Days!

“Just OK ...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

We stayed at the inn in October, and were sadly disappointed by numerous factors. We've stayed in lots of B&Bs, so we have a good feel for what to expect, and this one was not a spot we'd return to. Like another reviewer commented, the welcome was hardly warm, and we found our interactions with the staff to be fairly sterile. We stayed in The Loft, which was like an efficiency apartment. The furniture was uncomfortable and well-used/stained, and the bed was funky - half of it fine, half lumpy/creaky. The clawfoot tub was fine ... except that there wasn't enough hot water available to actually take a bath in it. The animals are charming, but the rooster? Not so much. He started crowing at 6 AM and never stopped. The area itself is gorgeous, and there are lots of B&Bs and inns nearby. We'd definitely recommend the area, just not this inn. For the price, we were quite disappointed overall.

Room Tip: The Loft is truly right above the henhouse.

We were very sorry our guests were disappointed and would certainly have addressed their issues immediately had we known.

We’ve received nothing but raves about our new king beds so we knew something unusual must have happened. Sure enough we found that half of the box spring had slipped off the bed frame. The bed is, once again, comfortable on both sides.

The lack of hot water was also surprising since this room has a full sized water heater to itself. We again checked it out and have adjusted the water temperature.

Most guests like the roosters, but we want everyone to enjoy all aspects of their stay. We have therefore moved our two smaller, gentler roosters to the barn farther away from guestrooms, and found a new home for the loudest fellow. We also leave the chickens closed inside their coop until after breakfast.

“The food was the only outstanding part of the experience”

My wife and I went here to celebrate our first anniversary -- the high ratings I'd read on TripAdvisor were a big part of the reason we chose Hill Farm. In truth we found it to be OK but not outstanding. The rooms were very rustic... charming but lacking certain comforts. The B&B has wifi but it doesn't reach up in the room where we were. They have a ton of DVDs on hand but no way to play them in the rooms. I know -- there are certain things that you know to put up with when at a B&B versus a hotel, so I assure you that flexibility is built into our assessment.

And when you want to relax, you want to do it your way, regardless of where you're staying.

The staff was relatively friendly, and I will say that the food was outstanding. Maple corn muffins, blueberry pancakes, french toast, and the coffee were all way above par. Being near Bennington was a good call, as there is lots to do in & around there.

In general, I would say that Hill Farm was a nice B&B, not an especially great value but not exorbitantly expensive... but when you're in Vermont you always come to expect a certain charm. Apart from the magnificent meals I'm not sure we saw it this time. Maybe we'll catch it next time?

We have just put new flat screen TV’s with built-in DVD players in most of our rooms. This guest just didn’t find the slot. We have since added prominent instructions for operating the televisions and DVD players.

While most of our rooms and suites have strong WiFi connections, a few farthest away from our routers do have weaker signals where reception is dependent upon the device being used. We are currently working on remedying this and should have strong signals in all areas of the Inn in the near future.

“Great Peaceful Bed and Breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

Stayed at the Hill Farm Inn for two nights, this is a great farm setting. The Inn is located on a backroad with large amounts of property. The Inn has dozens of animals from chickens to sheep. Bring your camera for the animals, the Inn keepers let the sheep graze around the property for several hours a day. Breakfast was amazing, you have a choice of pancakes, eggs, french toast, or homemade granola (all served with bacon or maple sausage). I would love to stay 4 days to try all the breakfast choices!

We stayed in the Mulberry Cabin which has a bedroom and a small bathroom. The cabin was a little musty when we first walked in, it cleared when we opened the windows. The cabin was very clean and ready for our stay, the bathroom included towels, soaps, shampoo, tourist magazines, all the works. The Inn keepers were very kind and friendly, the afternoon coffee tea and cookies were a nice touch.

I would 100 percent recommend the Hill Farm Inn. If you want a nice rustic setting on a farm that is tucked in the Vermont hills this is the place for you!

Room Tip: Cabins are cozy and have a private setting.
