We spent 3 nites at the Whitford Inn while visiting our daughter at Middlebury College. The innkeeper, Barbara Carson, is probably the MOST gracious person that I have ever met. Her service was as good as at any Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons. She made all of our dinner reservations , gave us excellent driving directions but what was most extraordinary was her generousity and passion for entertaining. We felt like guests visiting good friends at their beautiful country house. We had not been there for more then 10 minutes when she offered me wine and prepared a cocktail for my husband. Barbara then placed a well composed platter of fresh vegetables with a curry dip,a bowl of homemade mixed spiced nuts and warmed some freshly baked spanokopia for us to eat while relaxing by the fire.We enjoyed chatting with her while watching the sun go down over the Adirondacks.
Breakfast the next morning (all three mornings) was absolutely the very best that we have ever had at any Inn or B&B. Although this is a small inn there were 3 women preparing and serving us breakfast. There was homemade Granola, stewed prunes and apricots, baked apples with raisins, local yogurt ,fresh fruit platter, zucchini bread and then we were served Eggs Florentine with suasage( that was Day 1). Day 2 was bluberry pancakes, Day 3 we were served the lightest and fluffiest waffles(breakfast was always accompanied with a full table of other delights and breakfast meats and a tray with juices). Barbara invited my daughter to join us for hors d'heurves and breakfast everyday. The kitchen staff was as lovely and professional as at any top 4 star hotel.
Our room was cleaned while we were at breakfast, towels freshened twice each day. All of the towels and linens were of excellent quality and the bed was fabulous. The Inn is on a very quiet country road and so there is no road noise whatsoever. The grounds are lovely and the views incredible.
This was the first time that I have ever stayed at a B&B and actually felt comfortable using all of the public spaces. There were freshly baked cookies each evening which I enjoyed with a cup of tea.
My husband and I are looking forward to staying at the Whitford House Inn as often as we can. We would not even consider looking elsewhere(nor should you)!
