I stayed at this hotel with my 10 year old child from Dec 31, 2008 to January 4, 2009. There is a nightclub in the parking lot and our room was on that side of the hotel (towards the back underneath the stair case) and it wasn’t loud until somebody walked past the outside of our room. The gap between the door and the doorframe was so wide you could smell cigarette smoke if people were smoking and walked by. I didn’t have a hard time finding a place to park but it was a little scary coming in late at night.
The room was old and worn looking and it just looked dingy and dirty and there was a dead roach when we got there and we also saw one live one while we were there. The TV channel selection was very limited and the internet connection wasn’t wireless, you had to plug into a modem (thank God I have an aircard.) The breakfast was very poor for a La Quinta. La Quinta usually has waffles but this one only had bagels, fruit, cereal, and some pre-packaged pig-in-a-blanket things that you could heat up in the microwave. There also were no restaurants near the hotel so this was inconvenient.
I thought the hotel was in a bad part of town but after driving around Austin (the downtown area and also around this hotel) its seems the whole area has gone down the tubes since I lived North of Austin and spent a lot of time there from 2005-2007.
On a positive note the beds were comfortable and the heat worked well (didn’t use the A/C) and the water in the shower was hot. The hotel was pretty close to downtown Austin and access to the freeway was easy and the outlet malls in San Marcos were only about a 20 minute drive way. The front desk staff was also always very friendly. I would not stay at this location again though.
