“Mixed feelings”

I'm a solo traveler and stayed here for 2 nights. Had to change rooms because the first room didn't have any hot water. Matiencence said he "fixed it" when clearly it wasn't even luke warm. Second room didn't have a problem. I payed extra for the whirl tub and I didn't even use it! In both rooms I was in, the cab to one of the jets had hair and gunk wrapped around it. Enough to gross me out. Also, In middle of my shower in the 1st room I was in, a roach came out from underneath the shower door. Very limited on the channels that came in one the 1st room. 2nd room I had more of a selection. So I guess you get what ya get. Resturants (Dennys, Chilis, Applebees) across the highway just less than 2 miles away. Nothing in walking distance. About 10/15 minutes from the downtown 6th street shopping and bars. 1st room there was left over empty sugar packets still in the coffee bin from previous person. Front desk was so-so helpful. They were nice and smiled and stuck me in another room without problems. They answered all questions I had and were nice but I got the vibe it was because they "had" to be. So overall, not worth the price or the location but if a last resort I guess it would have to do. Also, right directly across the street is a bunch of run down apartments and questionable people walking around all the time. The hotel is put in middle of a scary looking place especially for a solo traveler that is a chicken like me.

“cockroach/eeeek”

Mr cockroach warned us "get out". The atrium/pool/dining area connects all the rooms, too bad the indoor pool has water gushing up into it with black color mold all over the wall. Our rooms both had exposed electrical connections for the heater/ac. The holes in the bathroom door, repaired tub chip and OLD cobwebs were more indications of the disrepair. The hotel is scheduled to be "updated" I say steer clear until the work is complete and the city has inspected the place. The redeeming part of our stay was the morning chef. He was friendly and cooked a great egg. My family enjoyed his gravy, but that is the only positive.

“Good value and convenient location”

This hotel is located near the juncture of I-35, the main N/S highway, and Highway 183, which cuts northwest from the airport across the north side of Austin. Gressner Drive, where the hotel is loated, has the advantage of a stub road under 183, so you can go east by negotiating two stop signs, without the usual long run down the service road to turn around.

The hotel is solidly built of concreete, and thus fairly quiet. As the name implies,it is built with rooms arranged around an open roofed courtyard. This has one small disadvantage as at times one can detect a slight smell of cigarette smoke from the fourth, smoking floor, but it is slight. As has been noted, the hotel hosts a lot of state troopers, and their vehicles' presence in the parking lot can't hurt your car's security any.

The lobby is large and nicely tiled. Bedrooms are adequate, the carpet and curtains perhaps a little dated. A list of coming upgrades is posted in the lobby, presumably for "regulars". Be warned that the towels are a blend - don't ruin your glasses on them.

Breakfast includes hot eggs (off the grill if you want a certain style), sausage, bacon, and that southern staple, biscuits and white gravy - along with coffee, juice, toast and cold stuff. There is a small indoor pool, but inside an atrium that's pretty much for exhibitionists. The hotel has two elevators, so no need to haul luggage up stairs. In-room wireless works well, with a steady five-bar signal. The front desk staff accepted two Fedex parcels for me (one of which beat me to the hotel) without problems.

I would call this hotel a good value, not fancy but more than adequate - which is generally the Best Western style, in my observation. When the high speed roads are running clear you can get around the city quite quickly from this location.

“Pleased with Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2010

My adult son and I stayed at this Best Western for three nights. I felt it was a good value for the money. Each night we were there, numerous Texas Highway Patrol cars were in the parking lot...officers were staying overnight at the hotel. We didn't worry about security!

Although it's l8 yrs. old, the rooms have been refurbished in the last two years. It looks very clean and well maintained. The only exception to this comment is the half eaten crackers left on a light table in the lobby. After seeing they'd been there all day, I told the person at the desk. They were still there the last time I looked.

The full breakfast was like eating in a regular cafe with a large selection of hot and cold breakfast foods.

While this Best Western is in no way a luxury hotel, we enjoyed our stay and would select it again.

“More Than Adequate”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2010

We paid $89 (with tax) for a stay of 4 nights here (mini family reunion). The location is right off interstate, so it is handy. Several restaurants are close by, but not really walkable.

With an indoor pool on the main floor, the lobby, atrium, and breakfast area are quite humid and warm. The lobby is large, though, and two computers (with printers) are available free. The rooms have free internet as well. Phone calls (local and 800 #s) are free.

The hotel may be showing some age (towels definitely need replacing), but we found it quite acceptable. Our room was clean and spacious (two beds), and while our A/C was not working correctly the first night, we did not have enough towels, there was no clock, and the handle on our tall faucet (bathroom sink) was broken, all but the handle were remedied quickly. A repairman came to our room right away, and he replaced the entire A/C unit the next day.

The room comes with a mini-fridge, microwave, and single-serve coffee maker. Having not seen one before, I assumed ours was broken (missing the filter). Turns out the coffee that is supplied has its OWN filter! I felt like an idiot when I asked the clerk to replace ours!! Try the French vanilla; yum. Our bathroom was HUGE.

The breakfast is more than what you might expect for free: all the typical cold offerings plus several hot dishes, as well as pancakes made-to-order. There might have been a Belgian waffle maker, too. Excellent orange juice, by the way!
