“10 minute walk to convention center, free airport shuttle”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Stayed on the 8th floor in the West tower for 4 nights. Although it's next to the freeway, the noise on that side is minimal. Colleagues were in the older tower and complained of freeway noise. Our room, 818, was nicely decorated, gym on the 6th floor has 2 treadmills, 2 stair steppers, and 2 weight machines. Buffet breakfast is decent for about $10.00 with grits, oatmeal, two types of scrambled eggs, breakfast meats, yogurt, lots of fresh fruit. Wifi Internet spotty in rooms, very good in lobby. Free airport shuttle service is fabulous, and they give rides to local restaurants in-between airport pickups. Daniel is one of the drivers. Stella at the front desk is awesome!

Room Tip: Microwave and fridge in every room. Ask for a room in the West tower.

“Old, cramped and in need of sprucing up”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

This is a great location, with easy access to Town Lake running trails and to the I-35. The property itself is tired and run down. It was the sort of room you wanted to be out of in the morning. The hotel lobby has no charm at all. The staff were friendly enough. We had a room just down from an ice-maching (the machine is right in the hallway) and every time someone used it, it sounded like it was right next to the bed.

Room Tip: Keep away from the ice-machines!

Thanks for staying with us last month. Yes, Aaron is an outstanding employee but he is only one of many. They are what make us a hotel that people love to stay at and return to. We hope to be your home away from home the next time your travel plans include Austin.

“Good location, Terrible service.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Overall, the hotel was an average (at best) experience. Not great linens or any extra blankets in room, semi sticky carpets in room, shower temperature was either scalding or freezing, hair dryer did not work, main elevator was questionable and in room thermostat was all over the place - finally set on 55 to get about 70 degrees. The service from the manager was where it really went downhill. My wireless internet was not working in room, so went down to ask for ethernet cord - manager just looked at me and said "No." No apology for inconvenience or attempt to fix it - just "No". I then asked if there was an in-house gift shop type store so I could get some Tylenol, to which he responded "There is a gas station across the road." The road being a major interstate, at 11 at night in a pretty shady area - I am a 27 year old female. So I walked around the corner of hotel towards business center, and there was a convenience store right there. The hotel is right outside of the downtown area, but that is about all it has going for it.

My apologies for your less than satisfactory experience. I would really like to know who the manager was that you dealt with. We recently upgraded our bandwidth and the number of access points so I'm concerned that you did not have adequate access. The desk should know that we do not have wired connections in our guest rooms and guests are referred to the convenience store at the end of the parking lot numerous times daily.

Additional, the desk stocks items like these for our guests that we provide at no charge. Your experience is not the standard by any means.

On the other hand, I'm glad you enjoyed the location. Please give us another try the next time you come to town. I'm sure it will be a far better stay.

“The Staff Make This a #1 Hotel In My Opinion”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We stayed for 5 nights total at this hotel during a girls weekend/week visit to Austin. The hotel offers shuttle service to the airport, downtown and to other places, when available, which is absolutely fabulous! The hotel is 1 mile from downtown and right on the walking path of Town Lake which you can walk to Congress St. Bridge along. There are also bike and segway rentals which were way too much fun!

It is an older hotel but we had everything we needed. Being a HI priority member gave us a lake view instead of the highway which was simply lovely. Check in was easy and welcoming. We went through a couple of room scenarios to insure that the 3 of us were comfortable. When we realized we were across from the ice machine Stella, FABULOUS!, agreed to move us if we wanted the next morning. We offered to give it a try and it wasn't a problem at all. The walls are a little thin but the hotel was filled to 100% capacity the Sat. night we were there.

We ate in the restaurant for breakfast each morning and the buffet and the orders from the menu was very good along with being very fair prices. Troy was the best waiter ever and was friendly and extremely helpful in giving us local tips. The bar was fun and we visited it a few times during our stay. We ate there a couple of times too too and were extremely surprised at how simply delicious the food really was. We even opted to go there to eat at the end of the day when one of the girls had to head back to the airport for a 6 p.m. flight.

Stella, David, Zach, Michael Thomas, Troy, Amber and many others encountered at this hotel are absolutely a joy to have met and spent time with. They were courteous, friendly, accommodating and just very nice people to know. We actually felt like we had made some very good friends.

I think what you need to keep in mind is that is NOT a downtown hotel. It is a mid-priced hotel with unbelievable services 1 mile from downtown. We saved a great deal of money by staying here with the access to the shuttle and even walked downtown one day along the lake. We tipped the drivers and the housekeeping staff as well. Why not start on the right foot? I don't think that would have mattered but it certainly didn't hurt.

We stayed 1-14 to 1-18 with 3 of us and then the 2 of us came back for our last night before flying out after an overnight to San Antonio on 1/19. All 3 of us could not get over how safe and truly appreciated we felt staying at this hotel.

We did have to take a few cabs because the hotel was busy with airport pick ups/drop offs or it was past the 10:30 p.m. deadline. They did come to get us once when I called at 10:29 p.m. They will even call for a cab for you when they can't come and get you. Cabs are so reasonable never more than $6 from where we were downtown.

True customer service is all I can say. Thank you so very much for another great visit. I can't wait to come back!

Room Tip: Join the HI priority club for a free upgrade. Free garage parking as well!
