I had a short business trip in this city which I had long wanted to visit for its music reputation, so I chose a hotel that was conveniently located to Sixth Street. Everything about the hotel was fine -- nothing awful, but nothing spectacular either, sort of bland and not much character, but nothing offensive (typical convention hotel, as the convention center is directly across the street). Room and bathroom were OK but both on the small side; gym was fine (but too few treadmills). Gym/spa opened out to pool deck, which looked nice enough but was empty due to cloudy weather. Spa services are pricey given what is available locally. I asked the concierge for advice re music venues given my tastes and demographic, and was (correctly) advised that 6th St is full of dive bars and college kids (definitely NOT my demographic). Oh well. Walked about 1 mile to the flagship Whole Foods store (which IS my demographic), so all was not lost. Well, at least I've gotten Austin out of my system.
