“Looks dated but excellent motel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2010

Don't be put offf by looks alone. This motel is a little dated, but the rooms are large and clean. There is free WIFI with a desk and free breakfast. There is a fridge, an iron and a coffee maker. The propieter Mr. Patel sorted out a booking problem for us that saved us US$200.
It is only 300ft from US183 and within 10 minutes of the Capitol building and maybe 15 minutes from down town Austin

“Absolutely no frills”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2009

If you want a clean place to crash and shower for the night and don't care about anything else, then this place will do. The location is covenient to major roads, like Mopac and Burnet- so it is fairly easy to get anywhere you want to go in Austin from there. However, with a city this size, you can do better. The room is basic; old-style polyester bedspreads; nothing modern about the furnishings. I will say, I've never had hotter water in a hotel room..you could make hot tea right out of the tap! The shower water pressure was good also. The beds were comfortable. The rooms open to the outside, which lends to a truck-stop feel and questionable safety. There is no pool. I found myself wanting to stay gone from the place as much as possible. I travel with a family of small children and I'm budget-conscious, but I would not stay there again and would gladly pay more to get more.

“For value and location - it's a good hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2009

If you need to stay on the Northwest side of town and just need a place to sleep this is the best value. Best rate for a Northwest side hotel that I would stay at. I traveled for business so it was just me, I would not bring my wife because she is more picky than I am. The room was clean, the shower dripped some but not a bother. I went down for breakfast but ended up skipping it. Just the real basics for breakfast. Again, I was in town for one night and needed a cheap, safe, place to stay.

“Okay for the Money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2009

I needed an inexpensive room to spend the night in Austin. I picked this hotel because I belong to the Choice Hotels loyalty program, I was familiar with this area of town and it was a reasonable price. I arrived at the hotel (more like a motel - most the units open to the outside) about 10 PM. The carpet and fixtures in the room were well-worn and it needed a fresh coat of paint. Despite the obvious age of the place, everything seemed clean and tidy - but the room had a strong, almost overpowering, "baby-powder" scent, (I reasoned that this was better than stale cigarette smoke or pet urine odor, so I decided not to complain). The free WiFi was a little sluggish but I was able to check email and do a bit of internet surfing before going to bed. Even though the hotel is only a half-block away from a major highway, the room was remarkably quiet with no highway noise. The bed itself was the only really "bad" thing about the room - the mattress felt like a cardboard box. I was able to sleep but I could feel it in my back in the morning. The free breakfast was typical Econo Lodge - lots of carbs and a waffle maker (I opted for the McDonald's that's about a mile down the road). I would recommend this hotel only under certain conditions - it was fine for what I needed - a cheap place to flop for one night so I could do my business in Austin the next day. I would not bring my wife or family here - go ahead and spend a little more and get something nicer.

“Stay away form this particular Ramada!”

How awful is this place? Let me count the ways....

Nasty reception, complete with tongue ring and kurt mouth
Hallways smelled like an overdose of perfume that costs a penny a gallon
Gang members flashing signs in the halls....and we hadn't even gotten to the room yet!
Bedspread torn down the middle about a foot long
Wad of gum and straw on the carpet against the wall
Towel rack torn off the wall
Headboard of bed scratched up and people's names were carved into it
bed lights hanging out of the walls
The two chairs in the room were so unstable we couldn't sit in them

Needless to say, we weren't going to hang around to see what would happen next. I was charged for 4 days nonetheless.
