“Great place in Austin”

I travel with college students to Austin several times each year. We always stay at this specific Super 8. It is very accessible off of I-35 and Baby Acapulco's is located across the parking lot; it's a great place to have dinner with no driving required. The Super 8 staff has been incredibly accommodating, before, during, and after our visit. The customer service is incredible. For example, I lost my receipts from the trip and their customer service representatives called me personally to make sure I had the documents I needed. The hot breakfast is awesome! Eggs, sausage, cereals, and much more. To me, a great hotel experience includes great food, and this certainly offers a wonderful breakfast to start your day. We will continue to stay at this particular Super 8 in Austin and think you should too!

very good value if you are not looking for some ritsy hotel. The room was clean and no icky smells. the staff was very friendly and helpful. It is right next to the highway, which the address shows, but we didnt hear the road noise from inside the room. I would stay here again

“Worst place I've ever stayed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

My husband and I frequently travel for business and pleasure and we both agreed this was the worst place we have ever stayed. For starters, the noise from the highway is overwhelming. I could hear it even with earplugs. Also it did not help that we could hear the fighting couple next door all night long. After a day of walking around the city we just wanted to have a nap and relax before dinner. Too bad for us. And too bad for us that night when the noise got even worse. If you are at all sensitive to noise do not stay at this place.

As for the price, I did not think it was a good value. I have stayed at many places in this price range in other cities and I felt ripped off. Partly this was due to the fact that they say on their website that they welcome pets, but do not list a fee. At other places I have stayed if there is an extra fee, they list it. In hindsight, I should have called to confirm before I booked, but I still felt they were being deceptive. I also say this because their advertised price outside the hotel is not honored; a young woman wanted a room and had stopped because of the advertisement. Yet their rate was at least $10 higher for one person. All in all, on the one hand, their fees are not outrageous, on the other hand, it would be much better if they were up front about them. Again, I've stayed at other places in this price range and do not feel it is a particularly good value.

Also, I'm big on walking when I visit a city and you could not walk anywhere. As someone else mentioned, "the university/downtown" title is somewhat deceptive. It is reasonably close by car, but not really possible to walk.

I'm shocked this place gets so many good reviews. Perhaps they're written by 20 year old people who just want a place to party and crash? idk The staff seemed nice to the other guests so I can see why people would speak highly of them- although I didn't see anyone name Milli or Kirsten. Perhaps I had a bad experience because they are no longer there? Or their day off?

My apology goes out to you.

Most hotel operators would take this lashing and say we failed you, BUT this is an instance that calls for me, as a leader, to stand firm…trust what I have built. Alexander Hamilton once said, “Those who stand for nothing fall for anything”. My staff has done an OUTSTANDING job improving our guest experience and I’m 100% proud of them. They are the reason we receive great reviews. We understand that this Country has a troubling economy and many Americans are fighting for employment so we stay committed and determined to improve daily when it's needed and justified.

FIRST, the noise from the highway will NEVER go away because of our prime location right off of Interstate 35. Please request a room farthest away from the highway. SECOND, our room rate is well below what is recommended for the accommodations and service we provide. THIRD, we love pets and always welcome them. There have been several instances where I have discounted our $25 pet fee as a courtesy for travelers who call before they arrive. FOURTH, our advertised price is always honored and there is a $5 fee for each additional guest. FIFTH, we make a positive attempt to rent our rooms to respectful and courteous guests but we cannot stay in the room with them to assure they act accordingly. You and future guests must inform us if there is a disturbance and believe me we will take care of it immediately!

I have much respect for you as a traveling guest because I am one as well. But I would NEVER make an attempt to humiliate a property without giving them an opportunity to take care of any issue I may have had. I'M YOUR ALLY NOT YOUR ADVISARY SO PLEASE ALLOW ME TO HELP! I can be reached at (512) 451-7001.

A few years ago my mentor, who is a very successful millionaire, told me customers are NOT always right. We would have ongoing debates but would end at a stalemate. In this case, I'm beginning to question my position. Nonetheless, it’s my PROMISE to stay true to our mission, which is to provide safe and SUPERIOR service to each guest from check-in to check-out at a reasonable cost. I believe for every guest that hate us there's a thousand that LOVE us!

Kind regards,

Milli

“cleanest "cheap" room I've found”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012 via mobile

Pro:
Clean room
$69/night
friendly staff

Con:
right on I-35 = loud
outdated furnishings & old, cheesy TV with few channels

I just needed a cheap room for a quick one night stay & that is exactly what I got. If you are wanting/needing anything more than a clean bed, look elsewhere.

Thank you for your positive comment in reference to the "cleanest cheap room". Our housekeeping department takes great pride in providing a clean room that smells inviting for all of our guests.

We do strive to offer MORE than clean rooms at a reasonable cost. We also have microwaves, refrigerators, hair dryers, single-cup coffee makers, irons and ironing boards. Most guests enjoy a great night sleep on the cushion-top Sealy mattresses we have in each room. TimeWarner cable has been our provider for over five years. We place a channel guide in each room with a list of channels they offer our guests. I recently placed the order for new HDTV LCD screens and the first group are scheduled to arrive in March.

Unfortunately, there can be noise from Interstate 35 during daily peak travel times because we are located right off the highway. It's a double edge sword...some guests despise the noise then other guests LOVE the ease of getting onto the highway to go to their destination. When you're from out of town it makes the commute, "a thing of ease", as I've been told.

Kind regards,
Milli

“Not near the University or Downtown”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

This hotel is 10 minutes away by freeway from downtown and from the university (if traffic is good).

The hotel is VERY basic: it's basically clean, the beds aren't too uncomfortable for just a night. But if you're staying longer than that, I would recommend you go anywhere else.

Service was basic: they had a crib for us to use, but front desk staff was rude about it (I had called ahead to confirm it and request it for our room; when we showed up they claimed I hadn't and they had given it to someone else to use that night. I understand if they only had one and someone else had already claimed it, but they didn't have to act like I was lying!). The property also shut off water for two whole days during our stay. I've never had that happen in any other hotel/motel I've ever stayed in.

In short, our stay there was just demoralizing.

Room Tip: All rooms probably have interstate noise, but ask for a room away from the office and elevator!

There's a proverb that states, "you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all the time". Here at Super 8 University/Downtown motel we strive to please ALL OF THE PEOPLE ALL OF THE TIME. Our mission is to provide each guest with safe and SUPERIOR service from check-in to check-out at a reasonable cost. That means we will go over and beyond to assure your stay meets or exceeds your expectations. Which is also why our property has excelled from a tripadvisor ranking of 138 of 186 hotels in Austin to *49* of 186 in only six months. Our attitude is driven by our guests and will remain that way as long as I'm here!

I apologize for the delay and any issue you may have had with obtaining a crib for your baby to sleep peacefully. You arrived on a Saturday...weekends are historically busy for us and the cribs were distributed on Friday the day before you arrived. You also booked your reservation through hotels.com, which is not a problem, but guests that booked directly through our property had claimed the cribs in advance. I'm willing to provide a discounted rate for you during a future stay to compensate for any hassle or delay you encountered.

The City of Austin shut the water off for six hours for a water repair that was needed. I made an attempt to fight the shutoff but if had to be done on that Monday during your stay. I'm willing to compensate you for that inconvenience as well even though it was out of my control.

Our property is located at exit 238A traveling north on IH-35 and the University of Texas exit is 235A...that is 3.8 miles apart which is calculated at approximately a 4-5 min drive.

I can be reached at (512) 451-7001 if you or any future guests would like information or have any questions regarding our property. I'm motivated by each guest experience to improve the way we service you one stay at a time.

Kind regards,
Milli
