“3 nights of pure disaster”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

2 kids and 2 adults on a vacation/business trip. First night (Wednesday night) had a drunk crowd of 5 college guys drinking and partying. Complained. Got a quieter couple the next night. 3rd night back to drunk people partying. Complained and got a new room closer to the asbestos - see below, (hauled luggage up a very small elevator).
Bonus - asbestos and lead cleanup closing off rooms right near ours.
Hotel lobby is very nice, but not the rooms or rest of hotel. Weird smells, could be asbestos.
Several people that look like prostitutes (who knows if they actually are).
Staff is one person and he wasn't to interested in much of anything.
Paid 90 dollars per night - would have paid double for one night of sleep.
Will go back to the Omni which is slightly further south (slightly more expensive, but safe/clean and quiet). Avoid at all costs. Better to camp out in a park, probably quieter.

Room Tip: Just don't stay here!

“large rooms, clean with comfortable beds”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

We were on business with five roooms so we had a good overview of this property. Property is older but has had many updates. The hotel is very close to downtown Austin without the downtown price and free parking. Room came with a good size refrigerator and microwave. Depending on the room you get will be a 25" old tv or new plasma with cable. Had to call front desk to reboot HBO. Hot water is good but water preasure depends on location. The breakfast program which is provided next door is a waste of time unless you go with the cereal & juice

Room Tip: ask for remodeled room

“A pretty good deal...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

Its not the Taj Mahal, or even the Taj MaHilton, but you do get a decent room for a good price in a decent location, at least with good proximity to Austin and the So. Congress St area.

The staff isn't the most polished but they take care of business. The rants here are because the staff hasn't gone to charm school...so well, Im OK with that if they do their job and answer questions. I had a question about the per night price which I was quoted to be a bit lower than was charged. He asked if I had AAA, and I did but not the card; still he took care of it. Nice.

The rooms and halls are a bit motel ish, but overall pretty good. The average guest there isn't exactly the creme de la creme either so if you have kids or are a noisy lout you won't have any problem there. Or, if you just want to tour and crash etc. its good.

Room Tip: probably good to not face the highway if you can.

“Rude staff, extra charges, overall unimpressive”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

We traveled here with a big group for a wedding the weekend of the 16th. Immediately upon check-in the man at the front desk was lazy, uninterested and every little question regarding the reservation seemed to bother him. The woman was SO rude. She looked at us like we were scum, it was horrible. We had been booked into a non-smoking room and after some coaxing we got him to move us. Joey was nice but later when we had problems with overcharging it was like a completely different person. Definitely not in a good way.
Good: The room was clean and the bar staff was SO much fun. We spent a lot of time in there and the manager was so great. He remembered us and joked with us, that was a truly nice experience. Buzz the bartender is so sweet also. I left my card there (never closed my tab! Yikes!) and they had no problem mailing it to me ALL the way in Colorado). I even saw the woman from Front Desk go into the bar after her shift for a few drinks and she seemed very capable of kindness then but spared none for us guests.
The hotel is nice overrall but seemed a little sad. Really enjoyed the 8ft deep pool and hot tub. When we got home however, they had charged us for 2 rooms even though we only stayed in one and there were 6 other mysterious 100+ dollar charges which the Front Desk people still haven't been figured out. If it wasn't for the bar and it's staff, I would rate this place as Terrible.

Room Tip: Non-smoking!! Unless you're a smoker. The rooms smell horrible.
