We recently stayed there for two nights during a swim meet. It was evident that the hotel is being rennovated and our suite was quite comfortable. We had a two room suite with two queen beds. The room was decorated tastefully and had a small balcony (15th floor). The beds were very comfortable. Although I appeared to change the thermostat setting, the room stayed at 70. However, that was comfortable for the most part.
While the kitchen was equipped with a full size refrigerator, two burner stove, individual serving coffee maker, and dishwasher, there were some things definitely lacking. For instance, there were no paper towels or napkins. Any type of pot/pan/skillet was also missing. Two saucers, one plate, a few coffee cups, 2 standard water glasses, and a few pieces of flatware were all that were in the kitchen.
The front desk was very helpful and the cookies were nice. Upon my arrival I was given a gift bag with two bottles of water and a cookie. Whenever the rest of my family arrived quite late, there were no cookies left but that was not unreasonable. Whenever we asked about them at any other point in our stay, there were always plenty.
We were quite surprised whenever we walked into the restaurant for breakfast on Saturday morning. It was in a conference room and a buffet had been set up. The oatmeal was just barely warm and the danish left quite a bit to be desired. If you prefer bacon to be VERY crisp, then you were in luck. The cost of one continental and two standard buffets was $52 plus tax and gratuity. There is a Jimmy Johns Sandwich Shop and a few other fast food establishments within about 5 blocks. There is also a Starbucks within about two blocks. We would have liked to have eaten nearby within walking distance but didn't know of what was available.
There is valet parking and a parking garage. However, be aware that the parking spaces are quite tight and the turns are VERY tight. Both my husband and I had to stop and back up to make the turns --even in our Acadia. Had we been in a larger vehicle, there is no way we could have parked there.
The hotel was very accommodating whenever our plans changed and we needed a later checkout. While they initially said they had a lot of people checking in, upon checkout the clerk said they did not.
The hotel has a shuttle that was VERY nice. It was readily available and took us to the swim center several times during our stay. The drivers were always pleasant.
I would not say that this was any nicer than the many Homewood Suites where we have stayed. Their plus is the complimentary evening snacks and the wonderful breakfasts.

I highly recomment you look into professional travel writing! Thank you for commenting on 'just the facts' and we are soooooo close to completing our hotel transformation, you have to come back!
i hope you enjoyed our proximity to the University of Texas Swim Center and downtown. We host many swim teams and fans here and it's so convenient and within our 2mile complimentary shuttle service.
As for our kitchens, a quick call to our front desk or housekeeping would have furnished your suite with all the kitchen needs you mentioned below, and i'll discuss this with our Front Desk to announce this at check in to our guests, and especially for our longer length of stay guests.
Sorry about the restaurant. You stayed with us while our public space (Restaurant/Lounge) is undergoing renovation, so we relocated these services to our banquet area to continue offering these services while we make improvements, BUT we are scheduled to open our new 15th Street Cafe and Lounge in just two short weeks!! Come back!! And we love our Starbucks (every morning) and Jimmy John's does make the best sandwiches. But you missed the Chili Parlor across the street! Best local favorite hot chili and coldest beer ever!
Our underground self parking garage is not friendly to larger vehicles and recommend our top level parking for large SUV's and larger trucks, or please ask our bellman to take care of your car. Although it's easily accessible for small to medium size vehicles and it is secured and gated parking. I drive a Ford Explorer and zip in and out easily but an Expedition wouldn't be able to 'zip' through but can park.
Awww, i may be a bit partial to my full service downtown all suite hotel but at least you're comparing me to another Hilton product! I too like Homewood Suites although would miss room service....
Thank you again for your time and comments and please try us again after two weeks, you're gonna love our new 15th Street Cafe and Lounge!
