“Good place to stay in N. Austin”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

Have stayed here twice, most recently over Thanksgiving weekend. The facility is clean, the rooms well-furnished, and the staff generally competent. Nothing special, although the room amenities are nice for this price range. When looking for this kind of lodging, I'd generally choose Hyatt Place over competitors. This one is convenient to the Arboreturm area for shopping and dining and right by both MOPAC and 183. Breakfast could use some work.

Room Tip: The end of the property away from MOPAC is likely a little quieter.

“Better options for $119 - BED BUGS!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

First, if you really need to stay here, they have $119 corporate rate, call direct and ask for it. Don't be suckered into paying $169. The hotel is average low end facility, among staybridge, etc.

I stayed in 4th floor and found bed bugs. Avoid floor 3-5 and north half of bldg.

They don't change sheets for at least 3 days; I doubt housekeeping keeps track, so all the dead skin/etc on sheets stays in the bed for many days. They don't change sheets because of cost saving and lazyness, masked by their claim of being 'green'. They should give option to opt-in to sleep in same sheet for many days, but you have to opt-out, so they won't change sheets unless you ask for it. Same with towels.

The real breakfast (not the free ones) takes 15 minutes to get ready, if you're in a hurry basically you're without decent breakfast.

Next time I will find a deal at Westin/Domain ($129) or Aloft/Domain ($119). They are both few miles north and brand new. If you must get Hyatt points, Staybridge down the street gives Hyatt points, and no bed bugs! (I hope)

Room Tip: All rooms are identical, noisy A/C, exhaust fan.

While I have been unable to respond personally as I cannot match this name with any guest in the last several months, I will at least respond here with a sincere apology as we never wish to have any guest leave our hotel dissatisfied. In answer to the most serious comment, we have stepped up our pest control inspections and prevention measures in response to the media coverage which bed bugs have been getting. They have never been found in this hotel and all rooms in whch guests have suspected them have been inspected immediately and found clean. We continue to take the issue extremely seriously and all housekeeping staff are trained on prevention.

I do not wish future guests to be misinformed as far as the other items mentioned so I will address them to avoid miscommunication. Like most 3-5 star hotels, the Hyatt Place does feel the responsibility of being a good corporate citizen and does have green initiatives in place including a linen and towel reuse program. These sorts of programs are being strongly demanded by most travelers but travelers who prefer to have their towels and linen completely changed every day can easily do so by informing the housekeepers. It is very common in most hotels and expected by frequent travelers; additionally, there are clear instructions for less frequent travelers so they know exactly what to do.

Hyatt Place is upgrading its breakfast in 2012 and you will soon start seeing more variety and hot items on the breakfast buffet. The hotel will continue to offer 24 hour food service and most items take about 5-10 minutes to prepare. On busy mornings, when other orders may have been placed ahead of yours, we do recommend allowing a little extra time, or you can call from your room with your order and we can have it ready for you when you come down.

As far as rates go, hotel rates vary significantly given the day of the week you are traveling, the demand for those dates, and the amount of advance notice with which your reservation is made. It is impossible to quote a specific rate for a hotel without travel dates. The rates quoted in this review are on the low end of the typical rate range for all three hotels mentioned. Rates can be much higher or lower depending on when you are traveling and when you are making your reservations. To get the very best rates, always call the hotel directly to make sure that you are aware of any special promotions which may get you a better rate.

“Normally fine, but feel let down this trip”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

Our last stay was not as pleasant as prior stays. Staff was inattentive at check-in and couldn't name any local brew pubs. (We found North by Northwest about 4 blocks away.) Room had a few burns on carpet and leaking shower, and just felt less clean than the many prior stays. The complimentary breakfast was non-existent after a waive of other guests and full of dirty dishes. Just juice, bread and cereal available. Not even a bagel or muffin left. Staff was so slow at check-out that we just left. We have stayed at this hotel several times in the past and like the location. Hopefully we just caught it on a bad weekend, but are looking for other options in the area.

I sincerely apologize that your last stay was less than up to the expectations set by prior stays. Thank you for your repeat business and please be assured that this is not typical for our hotel. We have had some staff movement due to promotions and it may simply be a training issue with some of our newer staff. I will make sure that we look into that immediately. I look forward to having you back next time you are in Austin.

“Pleasantly surprised”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

I stayed here because it was near my office and had never stayed at a Hyatt place.

This location has been recently remodeled and has all that a modern business traveler needs, strong Wi-Fi, nice, big TV and breakfast in the morning.

There are many restaurants within walking distance and easy expressway access.

Thank you so much for your business and for your kind words. We find that many first time Hyatt Place travelers are pleasantly surprised when they walk through the doors and we're so glad you decide to give us a try. I hope to see you again next time you are in Austin.

“Great Stay and a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

This was my second trip to Austin and having stayed at a Hyatt Place in Memphis, we decided to try one here in Austin. The Arboretum area is very well located, so it is an excellent base. The room was spacious, clean and well-appointed with everything you would expect from a Hyatt Place. We especially loved the media center that allowed us to hook up our laptop to the TV to enjoy a movie. On that note - the incredibly helpful staff provided us with both audio and video cables to hook up our laptop when my friend discovered that she had forgotten her cords. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this property to a friend. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was the morning we went down to breakfast I found both pitchers of skim milk to be bad (as did both of my friends - wasn't just me!). I returned them to the kitchen and they appeared to have been replaced, but I didn't check. Anyway, call it a four and a half star rating.

Room Tip: All rooms have an ample work/sitting area, so there should be much difference between rooms. Try to...
