We have stayed at many Select Registry properties over the years, with excellent experiences. This inn was one of only two in Texas that we hadn't visited, so when we needed to go to the Dallas area for an overnight, we immediately thought to stay here. However, when we checked the Select Registry, we noted that they were no longer listed. We decided to give it a try anyway.
We stayed in the Riviera Room, which was a huge space with a sofa and flat-screen TV, as well as a dining area. The bathroom was one of the largest ever, with a zero threshold shower and a jacuzzi tub big enough for two. The king size bed was firm, but we like that and found it quite comfortable. The location of the inn is a bit scruffy, and we wouldn't have wanted to walk in the neighborhood, but the gated grounds were nice. Although a bit heavy on silk floral arrangement decor, the overall room experience was a good one.
Breakfast was a bit of a disappointment. It felt more like going to a mid-level eatery than staying in a high end B&B. There were berries, mini-scones and small bites of coffee cake to munch while waiting for the egg dishes to arrive. There was coffee available, but no tea in sight. We accepted the proffered orange juice, but were stunned to see the menu stated $1 extra for refills, as well as other small charges for "extras." I've never ever seen that in my years of B&B visits. We had to ask for water. The omelet I ordered was pale, rubbery and watery. I guess I also needed to ask for jam or jelly for the slice of toast. Perhaps that was one of the extra fee items? My husband ordered the quiche, which was pale and custardy with a thin layer of ham, onion & tomato at the bottom, and pretty flavorless.
Since breakfast was our last experience before checking out, it didn't leave a very good overall impression of the place. We just couldn't get past the concept that we paid a very upscale price for the room and got nickeled and dimed on breakfast. Not that we actually consumed any extras that would have incurred those charges. But it just doesn't feel welcoming to need to ask for basics and to be prepared to open the wallet again. Adding $5 to the room price would be preferable to treating guests this way. I see why they are no longer Select Registry.
