I stayed at this hotel for five nights last week. Several colleagues and I were in Anthony for training, and this was the closest place. I wasn't sure what to expect.
I was pleasantly surprised. I had a king/non-smoking room, close to the lobby. The room was large. Just inside the room, there was a nice-sized desk on the left with a lamp/outlet/cat 5 cable input (I used the free wifi instead). On the right was the window A/C unit, a hide-a-bed sofa (not too cushy but just fine), and a coffee table. Beyond that, on the left was the TV/small fridge & freezer, and microwave, and the bed was on the right. The microwave was older but worked just fine. An upholstered bench under a mirror was beyond the microwave.
A built-in ironing board and iron were in the wall by the bed. In the sink area was a nice amount of counter space, a hanging rod and hangers. The smaller area had the tub and toilet. The tub had one of those curved shower rods that gives a little more space while in the tub. I liked this. There were the usual toiletries, as well as sanitizing wipes placed by the phone and remote control. Overall the room had lots of lighting and nice decor. There were two phones: one by the bed and one in the bathroom.
Breakfast was included. Each day there was yogurt, toast, bagels, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, fruit, cereal, milk, juice, coffee, and a waffle maker.
Other facilities were a small workout room that was packed but had a decent variety of equipment, and also the pool and hot tub.
These were maintained nicely.
One of the nicest things was the friendly staff. Almost everyone we met, including desk and breakfast area staff, were friendly and helpful. The housekeepers kept my room clean and restocked each day.
The location was also nice, right on I-10. Within steps were a Pilot travel center with a Subway and Wendy's inside, and also a nearby Burger King. A new KFC/Taco Bell is a block away, and a grocery store is across the street. The water park is about half a mile down the access road. I also liked being between El Paso and Las Cruces; relatively easy access to both. Personally, I liked staying here better than in El Paso--quieter and a little safer feeling to me.
Cons: Although relatively quiet, lots of semis were always coming and going from the travel center next door. It wasn't too loud to me, though. Also, our key cards didn't work a lot of the time. It was frustrating to have to go to the front desk continually to get them reset. However, I've had that problem in other hotels, too. Two of the days (both a.m. and p.m.), the shower water wasn't hot, only lukewarm. We reported it.
Overall, I was very pleased with this hotel, and will definitely stay there again if business takes me to Anthony.
