“Plenty of friendly service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2011

I stayed at this Holiday Inn on I 40 for one night while passing through town on business. As a female professional who works in computer sales, I often work long hours while I travel, and after a day full of sales calls I usually choose hotels with restaurants on site, so I don't have to check in, change, and then leave the hotel in the evening again in search of dinner. That's why I chose this hotel. Although I would have been happy to eat in the restaurant or just order room service, I ended up getting a bite while watching their thursday night comedy show instead. I didn't know they did this show until I already checked in, but it was a pleasant surprise. It was great, and very inexpensive, plus I didn't have to be cooped up in my room like i usually would. Anyway, the hotel was clean, felt lively, and the staff was really very friendly and available, joking around with the guests and everything, so it was a good atmosphere. These things make a difference to me travelling alone for business as often as I do. I'll be back the next time I'm in Amarillo.

Room Tip: I was on the top floor, which was nice and quiet

“Very good but not great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2011

Holiday Inns are always reliable, and this is no exception. Great customer service at the desk. Still, the room was a little outdated for Holiday Inn standards, and it was kinda pricey for what you'd expect for a simple Holiday Inn in Amarillo.

We are constantly evaluating the room rates and appreciate the feedback. Many discounts are available such as; Senior Citizen rate, many international and local companies also have negotiated rates established at hotels. Please contact the hotel to see which discounts you may qualify for.

“Clean Hotel with Comedy Night to Boot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2011

After a long day of driving, I made this my this my first stay at a Holiday Inn last Thursday. It's conveniently located on I-40 with plenty of access to restaurants and bars. After an early dinner at the nearby Big Texan steakhouse, we came back to the hotel to call it a night, but were surprised to find a packed bar for of all things - Comedy Night?!? We popped in and there were two (relatively) funny comedians from Los Angeles, a room packed with what seemed like locals and quite a few drinks goin around. Can't say I saw comedy night at the Holiday Inn coming, but it was a good time and we ended up having quite a few drinks afterwards.

Holiday Inn didn't change my life, but it delivered a clean, safe room with accommodating staff at a reasonable price. If you're passing through town on a Thursday, check out the Comedy Night which is apparently a weekly ritual with the locals.

We are happy that we were able to provide a clean comfortable stay for you. Also, thank you for taking advantage of our comedy club. The comedy club is every Thursday and is open to all. Please ask the box office for the guest rate to get a discount to the comedy club. Thank you for staying with us. We look forward to seeing you in the future.

“Do not stay here!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2011 via mobile

It was over 100 degrees in Amarillo and when we got to our room the AC was not on! Our room was a furnace. We turned AC on full blast hoping after we got back from dinner it would be cooled down. Turns out the main AC was down in the atrium/pool area. When I told the gal at the front desk that our room was not cooled down she smiled and shruged. Our room got down to about 80 degrees. It was a hot, sleepless night. the next morning the guy at the desk did not look us in the eye and exited quickly. I'm sure he had already fielded many complaints. We should have been comped the room or given extra priority points. We'll never stay at a Holiday Inn again. Holiday Inn Express has been much better.

We appreciate the feedback. As you are probably aware Texas, Amarillo specifically endured 100+ days with 100+ degree weather. We are so happy that it has finally cooled down! To address the issue with room cooling we installed a brand new roof top unit. This helps keep the rooms at a comfortable temperature and assists the individual room cooling units in cooling the rooms down quickly. The local energy company asked all businesses to reduce electricity usage so they would not have to institute rolling blackouts and turn off peoples electricity. We complied and had our room units off when they were not occupied. Please give us another shot!

“It's Old.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2011

We stayed one night at this hotel on our way through Texas. The hotel is very old. It is one of those hotels where the rooms have a balcony that opens up to an enclosed (!) courtyard. Down below you have the indoor pool, arcade machines, and the restaurant. You really need to keep your curtains closed. Otherwise there is no privacy. You also can't leave the balcony door open because of the noise coming up from the courtyard. The elevator has fake woodpanelling on the walls and the breakfast area looks like from the fifties, although we believe this to be intentional. It's just old, old, old. The only good thing about it was the exceptionally friendly lady at the check-in counter.

We are happy that you were pleased with our guest service. We strive to provide excellent Texas Hospitality! During your next stay we suggest asking for a room that faces the exterior. Half of our rooms overlook the garden atrium and half overlook the outside area. While most guests enjoy the beautiful view of the garden atrium some do prefer to let the crisp Texas breeze in with an exterior facing room.
