“Unique and Comfortable”

From the moment we pulled up and saw the cute sign to the warm greeting in the office we had a great stay. There are only about 25 rooms but they all have a unique southwestern feel. The rooms are equipped with very nice amenities (comfortable bed, great heat / AC unit). Both the Southwestern feel and the quality of the room reminds me of my stays at some of the expensive hotels in Santa Fe. Vouchers are provided for a free continental breakfast at their sister property about a mile away, the Holland Hotel.

“Dog friendly, people friendly, very comfortable, cute and clean”

We were traveling to Big Bend, and wanted to stop and see the Marfa lights. We brought our 2 dogs along on vacation with us this time. We stayed at the Maverick Inn, and were so happy we did! The room was decorated very cute, and was comfortable. Our dogs were given their own bed, and some treats, a nice touch!
It was too cold in November to use the pool for swimming, but we used the poolside area to enjoy some wine and conversation, making for a pleasant evening.
It was only about a 15-20 minute ride to the Marfa lights observation area (free). Next time we'll go to the McDonald Observatory, too. Sul Ross University is right across the street, and is a lovely campus.
We loaded up on some provisions we might need for our travels down to remote Lajitas while at the grocery store in Alpine.
Breakfast is included, and served at the sister hotel, the Holland. Very nice.

“beautifully done”

The staff were so helpful and friendly, and the rooms were just beautiful. Looked like they'd been done by a professional decorator. Everything you need to have a good time is here! The room I was in was small, but very comfortable. I only had two complaints...one was the train that blasts thru the town about 5 times a nite and blasts their horn the whole way, and no plug in by the mirror in the main room. The mirror in the bathroom was too high up for me to use...I'm a shorty. There are also two gathering places there...both outside, one covered, with table chairs cooler and xm radio. :) Bed was super comfortable, and we totally enjoyed our stay. And on a scale of 1 to 10 in cleanliness, it was a 10. It was an unusual experience....not anything like a typical motel at all! No irons or ironing boards in the rooms, but they have them there, you just have to ask. wouldn't surprise me if they ironed it for you when you ask, lol. But the reason is not enough room to store them probably. This is an old motel that has been redone. The only reason I gave it a 4, is because the water pressure in the shower was really really poor. If we had stayed there longer, we probably would have said something to see if they could fix it.

Room Tip: there are different sizes of rooms...when you call let them know what you need and if possible they...

“B and B ? It's a motel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

Ist. the motel lobby has two very freindly cats wandering about (one nice enough to help me fill out the checkin card information thing)...and I stumbled over two more cats wandering the parking lot later in the evening...one I accidently snuck up on while heading towards the pool and it scurried up the side of the building scaring the crap out of me.

Check in was fine. They warn you about loosing the room key (It's a key, not an electronic card reader).

The motel is directly across the street from the university and you could probably walk to the Mcdonalds...but it's a bit east of downtown.

The room was along the hwy...but wasn't too loud. it's nicely appointed the TV's a bit small, but the motel gave me the impression that you might use it as a romantic get away type place, so you're probably not watching tv . The bathroom is a bit small and cramped.. the toiletries nice enough to take home.

“Just the type of place we wanted in Alpine/Marfa area”

We stayed 2 nights. This place has real Texan character and charm. The place itself is like an old motel but the rooms have been fitted out and decorated in a wonderfully unique style. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable although the bathroom is quite small. The staff were friendly without any pretensions to slick city professionalism. There is a very nice swimming pool. Like any place in Alpine, you hear the trains sounding their horns as they pass through the town - day and night. We did not find this to be any real problem though.
