“Pretty bad - dirty, smelly.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2009

9 of us bikers took a week-long trip to west Texas and stayed in all kinds of motels. We are not a real picky crowd, but the Alpine Inn was by far the worst motel of the trip. It was the only one that was really unacceptable but we stayed anyway to have something to laugh about later. For 35 bucks, what can you really expect? The rooms were dirty, our fridge stunk up the room when we opened it, the linens were stained, and the bathrooms were all moldy. There was trash under the beds and it looked like a vacuum or mop hadn't been used in a while. The exterior eves and boards show much neglect, and the roof ridges are bowed down. On the plus side, the TV worked fine and the steakhouse across the highway was great. On request, the owner came in with two cans of air freshner and sprayed like mad, then brought out some clean sheets. Didn't put them on, just brought them out. They had a bleach smell to them, so we knew there couldn't be much of anything bad in them. Slept great.

“Don't understand the bad reviews”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2008

This was our second year to spend Thanksgiving week at the Alpine Inn and I truly don't understand the negative reviews. On both of our stays the room was clean, the management was friendly and our stay pleasant.

The only true problem came when we returned from having Thanksgiving day lunch at the Prude Guest Ranch in Fort Davis (something I highly recommend) and found that we could not get the FOX network for the Cowboy game. One call to the office and the problem was fixed.

One needs to remember that this is a budget hotel and not a Hilton or even a Ramada. More like a Motel 6.

If you are on a tight budget, we are both teachers so that is us, I recommend the Alpine Inn when staying in the Big Bend area.

“Stay somewhere else!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2008

This properties website is very misleading! It states that there is a bar and restaurant on the premises. WRONG! There was no bar, no restaurant, not even a working vending machine! The rooms were filthy. There was trash and debris behind all the furniture, in fact the waste baskets in our room had not even been emptied when we checked in. The dust on the coffee maker and wall mirror was so thick you could write your name in it. There were leftovers in the mini-fridge that had not been removed. Even though we had a double room for two people, some mornings we were left only one washcloth and one coffee service packet. The website also states that there is a coin operated laundry and common kitchen area. Well, what they call a common kitchen area is a storage room at the back of the motel with a filthy electric stove that had dried food splattered all over it and some old ratty looking pots and pans that were covered in dust! My suggestion-- STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE!

“BAD experience!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 March 2008

Reserved a room only to find when we arrived that we had no reservation, even though we did have a confirmation #!!
Manager was AWOL and never returned calls.
Don't stay here!!! Run, don't walk someplace else. We wound up at the Maverick Inn. Very nice place and friendly people.

“Inexpensive but problems”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2008

A little old and dingy. TV was big and flipped channels fast unlike most crummy hotel TVs. Stuff I plugged in was slipping out oddly. They said they had wireless internet, but then it didn't work. I called the front desk and the guy said he didn't know it wasn't working and couldn't fix it. No apology or anything. In the shower, only the hot water would route to the shower head. The cold worked but only went through the faucet part. Fortunately the water wasn't so hot I couldn't take it for a few seconds at a time. The doors don't have any inside locks like a deadbolt or that chain thingy. Towels were old, ratty, and small.
