9 of us bikers took a week-long trip to west Texas and stayed in all kinds of motels. We are not a real picky crowd, but the Alpine Inn was by far the worst motel of the trip. It was the only one that was really unacceptable but we stayed anyway to have something to laugh about later. For 35 bucks, what can you really expect? The rooms were dirty, our fridge stunk up the room when we opened it, the linens were stained, and the bathrooms were all moldy. There was trash under the beds and it looked like a vacuum or mop hadn't been used in a while. The exterior eves and boards show much neglect, and the roof ridges are bowed down. On the plus side, the TV worked fine and the steakhouse across the highway was great. On request, the owner came in with two cans of air freshner and sprayed like mad, then brought out some clean sheets. Didn't put them on, just brought them out. They had a bleach smell to them, so we knew there couldn't be much of anything bad in them. Slept great.
