“Fun place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

We stayed here while attending a conference at Sul Ross University. As others have noted it is an old-time motor court : a series of units, two to a building, with a central patio and basic furnishings. The staff was helpful and answered questions. There is an interesting rock display and gift shop adjoining the lobby. My kids would have loved this place! Good value and a change from a chain motel/hotel. The Texas Fusion restaurant is just down the highway.

“Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

We have enjoyed staying at the Antelope Lodge due to it's closeness to central Alpine and due to the fact they have a real kitchenette with stove. We like to eat in sometimes and this is the best bet. The neighborhood is a bit down but we've never had any trouble except for one night with a barking dog in the trailer park next to the Lodge's property.

Room Tip: Bring your own pillows and any special cooking gear. They have some stuff but the selection is limit...

Thank you for your very nice review. Just wanted to let you know that we've replace all the old air conditioners with new, quiet ones this fall.

“Unique, Friendly, Needs Better Beding yet Priced Right”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Stayed at this old-time motor lodge with my 13 year old Son. He hadn't seen many "motor lodges" before. The structures were dated, and the amenities are very simple or crude, but the price was reasonable and the personnel took interest to make sure we got everything we wanted and were satisfied. The bedding was very(very) simple, and although in some way uncomfortable we spent our days actively exploding so we crashed hard each night. There was a central ice machine for loading up the cooler before each day's travels (necessary it was about 100 degrees each day). The kitchen in the unit wasn't very usable, no cooler/refrigerator. My Son enjoyed the attached rock shop and they staff was very friendly, very patient, and helped teach him about mineralogy.

First, let me assure everyone that each of our rooms has a refrigerator in the kitchenette, and they all work. I emailed this reviewer and he admitted that he hadn't looked for the refrigerator, and just hadn't noticed it.

I would like to suggest that anyone who wants to write a review check the facts FIRST. This guest could have easily found the refrigerator -- it's right there under the two-burner stove, in the kitchenette where it belongs. But he didn't look. Instead, he wrote a review that many people have apparently read and taken to be true. His review has probably cost us some business, and some travelers have been misled about our motel because of what he wrote.

At the Antelope Lodge, we try very hard to make people happy while they are visiting us. It you stay with us and aren't satisfied with something, please let us know right then, so that we can make your stay more enjoyable. Thanks for reading this, and we hope to see you out in West Texas, enjoying our wonderful Fall weather!

“Old Place with Great Charm!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

This quaint motel was built in 1949 and looks like it has been well maintained. If you are looking for what a motel looked like in the 40's and 50's or want to do a retrol trip then this is the place for you. They even have wifi and tv. Rates are fairly cheap for the area and the owners are actively onsite most of the business hours. We stayed with a car club and we took up the whole motel. Nice change of pace!

“Clean and funky but just couldn't get a good night's sleep”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2011

I really wanted to love this place because it is charming and relaxing around the courtyard, and I like places that are a bit different. And I did love it, at least until we tried to get some sleep. It wasn't that it was too loud but the bed was just sooo bad. I think this bed might have been around since the beginning because it was so squishy and lumpy. These were two of the most sleepless nights I've had from a not so good bed in a long time.
If a comfortable bed is not high on your priority list then this place should be fine. It is quiet, clean and has plenty of hot water for showers. The rooms are small and dated, but in good condition and clean. But just beware the bed may be very uncomfortable (and bring your own pillow unless you like lumpy). People are very nice here too.

Room Tip: suites seemed a little more musty than the cottages

My husband and I have owner the Antelope Lodge for 16 years. We pride ourselves on excellent customer service. But we can't fix a problem if we don't know it exists.

Again, this review was written by someone who didn't talk to us about his problem. The mattresses in the suites are new, firm pillow-top mattresses, and not everyone likes them, because the pillow-top portion of the mattres is soft although the underlying mattress is very firm. We would gladly have moved the guest to another room if he/she had told us that they didn't like the beds.

Perhaps I could understand someone not asking us for a different room if they stayed only one night and didn't want to have to move during the evening. But this guest stayed two nights.
