I was on the island for 9 days and had the opportunity to become somewhat familiar with the available accommodations on the island. Hotel Robert Riemers was by far the nicest accommodations, and their restaurant was way out ahead of any other restaurant on the island.
This was my first trip to Majuro, so I don't know what it may have been like before, but I was surprised by the run-down appearance of the other hotels - some of them didn't even look open any more. In contrast, Hotel Robert Riemers well maintained and bustling. It has a large staff, 24-hour front desk, very courteous housekeeping, 24-hour security and feels very safe and comfortable.
I stayed in a garden bungalow that was very comfortable and well maintained. It had a nice porch with chairs. The A/C worked fine, and there was a mini-fridge (that was occassionally stocked when I didn't have my own food in it.) The bathroom was well-maintained but barren of amenities - there were bars of local soap but no shampoo, etc, and no hair dryer. The bed was comfortable.
The restaurant was the best on the island. I tried most of the ones that looked reasonable, and none were even close to Hotel RRE for menu, quality of food, service, or atmosphere. While each was an adventure, I wondered after each one why I kept trying to find an alternative.
The hotel sends a van to meet you at the airport. I had a lot of equipment that took a while to collect and they left the airport without me on arrival, but they were extra helpful on departure and stood by while I got it checked in.
I got a rental car through the hotel - very painless. They were very helpful in getting an A/C problem fixed. Internet was a challenge on the island - many places can sell you access to the national wireless at 10 cents a minute, but logging on (and especially off, so the minutes don't keep slipping by) is a challenge. The hotel arranged a day trip to a remote island - advertised as 6 minutes away but actually 30 minutes by a fast boat. Snorkeling there was nice. But, the hotel was not able to provide other dive/snorkeling options - not sure if they don't exist or that they don't help the competition.
There is no second choice for a hotel on Majuro. While this hotel would rate as only acceptable in a resort destination like Tahiti, it gets an excellent for its location.
Room Tip: The bungalows are worth the extra $
