Ever since I was about 7 or 8 years old I wanted to find out more about Buford Pusser. I can remember the exact theater where I saw the first "Walking Tall" so seeing this place brought back some good childhood memories. As a result I wanted my son to see and understand why I thought this man was important in Americana understanding. The tour was not disappointing.
While looking at the house where the museum is located you ask yourself how can all of this fit into such a small place. But held on two different levels you see the living areas of the family as well as Buford himself. I found the items stored around the living areas quite interesting if not a bit unsettling for young eyes. But the pictures of Buford injured as well as the Corvette shell in which he died brought out questions from my son.
Even though I thought the entrance fee was a little steep having the one on one attention from the tour guide was an awesome experience. Shirley personally knew the Pusser's and was very interested in the subject she discussed.
About an hour and half drive from Memphis this small museum is indeed worth the trip. Even it it is out of the way.
