“Southern Charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

This is a lovely, old hotel, restored with care and attention to detail. Dark, polished woodwork, oversized leather chairs.

We had a huge bedroom/sitting room and a huge bathroom with all the amenities. Downstairs there is a large, inviting living room and a small bar with a friendly bartender. You can enjoy your drink inside or, if the weather is mild, as it often is in Aiken, on the front veranda.

The hotel will even make arrangements to board your horse if that's something you require.

Our only reqret was that we didn't have more time here.

“real southern comfort”

I was headed to Myrtle Beach to golf with some friends when I heard about the Aiken golf club winning a best of public golf courses in the US award and decided to stop and play the course. When we called the club they recommended The Willcox as a place to stay. We drove up to what resembled an old southern mansion and stepped inside and went back in time. The staff made me feel like I was lord of the manner. I felt like I was at The Ritiz for half the price. The room was not only incredibly well appointed with antiques but the small amenities like the lemon water beside my bed, the chocolate on my pillow and the thick and cozy house coat pampered me beyond my wildest expectations. The golf course was great and I can understand why it won the award. I will definitely return to play this spectacular course and come home again to my manner ... The Willcox..

“Great Hotel”

My husband had to be in Columbia for business and we decided to make a mini holiday of it. We found The Willcox online and thought it looked perfect. We arrived and couldn't have been more pleased. The hotel is old school gorgeous - very grand, yet warm and comfortable. The restaurant was incredible. We met the Exectutive Chef who is from New Zealand. Very talented. Loved the spa! We had a couples massage in the most gorgeous room with the fireplace going. Loved that we could sneak up the back stair case to our room - stil in our robes and ordered a great bottle of wine and room service that we had on our porch. Not sure how many of the suites have porches but the Churchill Suie does and it's awesome. Highly recommend The Willcox

Room Tip: The Churchill suite has a great porch. It's on the second floor and very private.

“Atmosphere is A-plus!”

If you love history and atmosphere, you will love the Willcox. My mom and family members celebrated her 91st birthday there. We soaked up the elegant atmosphere and had a lovely dinner in the restaurant. The rooms and public area let you feel as if you're back in time (but with the conveniences of modern life). And it's within walking distance to downtown Aiken and interesting neighborhoods.

“Good not great.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2011

This was my 3rd time staying at the Wilcox. Sadly they are quiet during the summer months and have opened the pool to the public. It looked like a Jersey Shore spring break, as they had a volleyball tournament for the locals. A lot of smoking, pierced, tattooed locals taking up the entire pool until nightime, with no space reserved for guests staying at the inn. I was hoping to relax by the pool but that was not even an option. Also the music was blaring so seeking relaxing sheler in the room was not an option either.
The rooms are grand and ideal for an older inn. We had dinner reservation for 6:30 which was not communicated to housekeeping that arrived for turndown at 6:00. I told her to please return once we had left for dinner, since we were getting ready, Instead she filled my ice bucket and left. The restaurant is good but the menu is predictable and not original. Much too high for the quality of food. Overall its a good inn but the small touches that were once there are not there any longer.
