“Horror Hotel Film set!”

My husband and I were looking to get away for a few days. We contacted a travel agent and she booked us an all inclusive package at the lovely Penn Hills Resort. Upon our arrival it looked shut down. Not a soul in site except for a few parked cars. Front desk people were friendly enough but from the look of the lobby it was a bit scary. They led us up the hill to our room where the building was deserted. We were the only ones in the building. Upon entering you could smell the odor of mold and stale smoke, out dated furniture, chipped paint, cracks in the ceiling, floors, heart shaped bathtub, which didn't work.and stains everywhere you can image(carpets, bedding, curtains) I felt like we were some sort of horror flick. Really spooky. We immediately went down and asked if we could get an upgrade which they provided a private villa complete with round bed, bugs, dirt, old musty carpeting and again a tub that didn't work. The only laugh we got was when we opened the draws to see if we could actually put things safely in there, there was a ton of graffti with saying like, you've been had, we got screwed, this place is a dump. We had the feeling that we were in a porn film set. The bar was decorated in cheap 70/80s decor. Drinks were watered down, food was edible but not worthy of anything more then the price of a happy meal. Needless to say we slept in our clothes on that night and decided to head out and ask for a refund. They refused to refund us and told that we were to contact our travel agent for the refund. The useless travel agent refunded $50 out of the almost $700 we paid them for the resort stay. If you like being spooked and alone with dirt and bugs then this is the place for you. HOLLYWOOD should check this place out for a great horror film. "The Penn Hills Horror Hotel"

“A shame to see a once beautiful resort in such disrepair”

Drove through this once beautiful resort only to be totally disappointed to see that
it no longer exists. The grounds were overgrown, some of the buildings are
falling down. You can't even see the wedding bell swimming pool or the beautiful
waterfall.

“OK to stay if your focus is your mate”

I stayed at Penn Hills twice in 2007 and 2008, the place does need to be updated and if you are going there to enjoy the "resort" more then your mate then this is not the place for you. I thought it was ok because all me and my girl friend, who is now my wife, did was enjoy each other. Living in NYC, we thought the deserted feel truely made us feel away from home. The staff was really nice and the rooms were clean. The only thing that really really sucked was that both times we stayed the pool was broken and there wasn't enough hot water for the tub. We slept, ate and enjoyed what the pocanos had to offer so the stay was not bad for us. One thing I can say is the place does have a feel of a glorified motel..

“WOW, What happened to this place”

We were just curious what was going on with this place, when we found this site. We stayed here for our honeymoon 24 yrs ago. It was a really nice resort back then. You couldn't get a room if you didn't make reservations well in advance. The dining room was very formal. The night club was always hopping. We drive by here all the time on our way to our weekend home in the Poconos. Every time we go by, we wonder what has happened to this place. It looks abandoned. Never any cars or people around. The place looks like it's falling apart. Weeds growing everywhere, even on the decks of the rooms. Grass that never gets cut. Curtains falling down in the windows. We thought it was closed down, but it looks like people say they were here this year. Just 3 or 4 years ago, the place was still busy, but the last 2 years it has really gone down hill. Just knowing what the place used to be like, and what it looks like now, I would advise anyone to stay away.

“Penn Hills Not as Bad as it is made out to be”

We stayed at Penn Hills 2 times. The first time we made a reservation for the weekend. When we checked into the room I could smell cigarette smell. I have asthma and I can't be around smoke. We went to the front desk which the girl was very friendly and she said we could change our room. She gave us an upgrade which the room was very clean not the Ritz ,but it was fine the price was not expensive. We did not get the meal package but we did have dinner one night and it was very good. We went back in July of 2008 with no reservation and we had a cheaper room and it was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel is not updated but if you want peace and quiet it's a OK place to go . We relaxed by the outdoor pool and we would go back again. You can't please everyone! I would recommend to a friend as a quiet place to stay.
