“Where to start...”

I don't know where to start. First let me say that we feel really bad about writing a negative review for a hotel - it's our first. But we think travelers should be aware of this motel. Our room (122) was FILTHY. At first we didn't see it but after we got all our bags into the room and turned on the lights we were in for a surprise. There was dirt on the walls, carpet, around the windows. hair in the sink, food on the floor. The 2 incidents that stand out most was a dirty towel hanging on the back of the bathroom door from a prior occupant and a TOENAIL on the floor beside the bed. The key locks for the outside doors were broke and supposedly being repaired (according to a sign posted on the doors), but we found out from other guests that the locks hadn't work in at least a year and possibly quite a while longer (11 years another frequent guest told us). Not so much of a problem, but still needing mentioned was the watered down orange juice from the complimentary breakfast. There was a slight (very slight) hint of orange in my serving. We are frequent guests at Choice Hotels and have Elite club status. This is the first time we've stayed at such a filthy hotel. Choice Hotels will also be getting the content of this review.

“Staff try hard, but the building and furnishings are old and stale”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2010

My wife and I stayed at the 'Quality' Inn, Allentown on the night of Tuesday 19 October 2010. There is an old saying "that you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear." Believe us this is a sow's ear of a hotel, antiquated furnishingsand fittings, doors that don't want to open, but when they do have all the marks to let you know they could really tell some stories about what they have seen over the years! The corridor carpet is, at best, awful.

The ray of sunshine amongst all this gloom is that the staff really do try hard; they make the best use of the meagre rations they are provided with and try to give you the cleanest room they can with what's available. The reception staff are friendly and the man who puts out breakfast trys his best also and is clearly conscientious.

We were 'rewarded' with this room by Choice Privileges having spent 4 nights in their hotels and accruing 10,000 points. If you're in a similar position don't take the reward - amass some more points and trade them in for a night you can at least enjoy.

Would we stay again - no; a real shame because the staff here deserve better.

“Inexpensive & Clean - Good Road Trip Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 June 2010

We found this hotel using the coupon booklet picked up at PA Tourism. $50 for two people. For a one night stop on a road trip, this hotel is just fine. The bed was comfy and the room was very clean. The person who checked us in was very friendly. If we were looking for updated furnishings and fancy paint jobs, we would have stayed at a holiday inn, etc. and paid at least $100. For $50 a night, this was a decent "road trip" hotel.

“Very good considering the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2010

I don't know why people are down on this hotel. Is it a luxury hotel? No, but considering I paid less than $50 per night (including taxes) for my room, I can't really complain. Yes, some of the issues raised by other reviewers are valid (e.g. the exercise room being open from 6am to 10am, the magnetic locks on the doors not opening on the first try), but the place was quiet and the staff was friendly. In short, I felt safe and I really have no complaints. I'd stay here again. If you're looking to be pampered, go somewhere else, but if you want a comfortable room and a good price, then there's no reason you shouldn't stay here.

“Don't stay here!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2010

Upon arrival, the front desk clerk was not very helpful or friendly. I asked him to explain a charge on my bill and he did not give me an answer. We were just handed a key to a room which was small, poorly decorated and in disrepair (holes in walls, etc.). THEN as I went to get into the shower, the hot water did not work for the shower. I had to get re-dressed and go back to the front desk. The maintenance man was sent to the room and said we'd have to change rooms if we wanted to use the tub/shower. We were given another room which once again, was not in good shape. Earlier in the evening when we came back from supper, we tried to enter a side door which was closer to the parking lot, to get in out of the snow and sleet. That door was also broken and couldn't be used. Basically this motel was just not up to the standards of other Quality Inns.
The morning manager did explain my bill and take off a charge that I did not agree with but that still did not make up for the other issues with the room.
