“Got to be the worst hotel in the States”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

It was midnight on the 24th August, we had to check into this hotel because we couldn't get accommodation in the vicinity after a booking at Best Western was "mislayed"
We'd travelled from the UK were tired, hungry & a wee bit dirty.
The room was filthy with cheap sheets on the beds (the type that scratch if you move around), the carpets were dirty & sticky, didn't even want to take my shoes off.
The receptionist on duty couldn't have been anymore distracted, carried on watching TV whilst we were trying to check in
Breakfast was abysmal with a very rude attendant who told us that he wouldn't put more food out for us because breakfast ends in half an hour!!!
Although we were only there for a few hours we were charged full price for the room.
I would recommend that anyone who thinks about booking this should STAY AWAY

Room Tip: Do not book this hotel until you've read the reviews,

“Always read motel reviews before booking!”

Dirty/Dingy/Disgusting hotel. Staff: On Sunday morning, desk clerk said she was watching the movie in the lobby and refused to change the channel for me (I was the only one in the lobby at the time and she was doing paperwork). Breakfast monitor did not clean tables between uses and was not in the vicinity to ask for help. I later found him in the hall behind the main desk chatting in the doorway. Hotel in need of repair, cleaning, etc. We booked a 'no smoking' room and it smelled like cigarette smoke. Dirty, dingy, really disgusting. Broken items everywhere. On another post, the hotel rep stated that they are in the process of remodeling. No evidence seen of remodeling. Burned out light in side parking lot=total darkness and a safety hazard. Beginning today, I will always read the motel reviews before booking. This hotel gives the Choice group a bad name.

“I have stayed in nicer places, but waddaya want for $49?”

I agree with reviewers who say this Quality Inn is old and tired, but I did not see the filth that some reviewers describe. (Guess I need to pack my white gloves.) We just needed a quick and cheap overnight, and it was fine for that. I found the shower mechanism a little loose, and water pressure was not good. But the water was hot. Internet worked great. Breakfast was so-so, but so are 90% of the hotel breakfasts I've had. Location is out of the way, in a semi-residential area; only retail in sight is an Exxon mini-nart across the street. If you need to experience all the glitz and glamour of downtown Allentown, this location is not for you. But for $49, I was basically satisfied.

“Where to start...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2011

I don't know where to start. First let me say that we feel really bad about writing a negative review for a hotel - it's our first. But we think travelers should be aware of this motel. Our room (122) was FILTHY. At first we didn't see it but after we got all our bags into the room and turned on the lights we were in for a surprise. There was dirt on the walls, carpet, around the windows. hair in the sink, food on the floor. The 2 incidents that stand out most was a dirty towel hanging on the back of the bathroom door from a prior occupant and a TOENAIL on the floor beside the bed. The key locks for the outside doors were broke and supposedly being repaired (according to a sign posted on the doors), but we found out from other guests that the locks hadn't work in at least a year and possibly quite a while longer (11 years another frequent guest told us). Not so much of a problem, but still needing mentioned was the watered down orange juice from the complimentary breakfast. There was a slight (very slight) hint of orange in my serving. We are frequent guests at Choice Hotels and have Elite club status. This is the first time we've stayed at such a filthy hotel. Choice Hotels will also be getting the content of this review.

“Staff try hard, but the building and furnishings are old and stale”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2010

My wife and I stayed at the 'Quality' Inn, Allentown on the night of Tuesday 19 October 2010. There is an old saying "that you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear." Believe us this is a sow's ear of a hotel, antiquated furnishingsand fittings, doors that don't want to open, but when they do have all the marks to let you know they could really tell some stories about what they have seen over the years! The corridor carpet is, at best, awful.

The ray of sunshine amongst all this gloom is that the staff really do try hard; they make the best use of the meagre rations they are provided with and try to give you the cleanest room they can with what's available. The reception staff are friendly and the man who puts out breakfast trys his best also and is clearly conscientious.

We were 'rewarded' with this room by Choice Privileges having spent 4 nights in their hotels and accruing 10,000 points. If you're in a similar position don't take the reward - amass some more points and trade them in for a night you can at least enjoy.

Would we stay again - no; a real shame because the staff here deserve better.
