“Great Stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We went on a couple's getaway to the Amethyst Inn and couldn't be more pleased. It was perfect. The price was great, the bed was comfortable, and the jucuzzi tub was an unexpected luxury. Whether you're looking for a quiet getaway or a weekend of fun, the surroujnding area has everyhting you could want. we spent one day wandering the surrounding amish country and came back for a small bite to eat and the next day went into Lancaster to catch a show at Fulton theater. Truly a great experience. And everyone was so friendly!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Topaz Room, Which happens to be the smallest and least expensive. We were on a budg...

“so very nice!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

I have stayed at this B&B twice. once for my birthday (during grad school, perfect time for a break), & another time a few months later (also during grad school, while i was interning, even better time for a break!). The staff was excellent. friendly, accommodating, & they remembered us when we returned the 2nd time. the rates are also super, duper reasonable, considering how nice the place is & how just PRETTY it is.
We stayed in the Jade room both times, b/c that room has a memory foam (king size) bed & we have jacked up backs which seem to stubbornly persist in remaining jacked thru the years. That room also has a gas fireplace, a 2-person jacuzzi tub & truly is 100% awesomely decorated. it has an old organ, a nice big comfy wingback chair, teal walls, gorgeous curtains, lots of really comfy, cozy & attractive details. also, it is a verrrry romantic room, & a quite romantic house.
The house is a victorian, & i think that the decor is not true, authentic victorian, b/c true, period-victorian is petty darn tacky. BUT, it is close enough for anal-retentives like me, without the knick-knacks everywhere, the scary patterns or muddy-rust, extremely dark green or other depressing colors the victorian era's design consisted of. The thing is, this place is just beautiful. very pleasing to the eye, some very different antique pieces (i hope so, in the antique's capital of the usa!), and quite a relaxing atmosphere. so for those who like to see an historically accurate building consistent with its original design, this should be a good place for you, b/c it is not far off the original period mark, but manages to be super tasteful. there is also a realllllly whimsical quality to this house & it's decor. i think this reflects the owners' personalities, which are, as i said above, pleasant & amusing.
Both times we went were during winter (well, fall & winter), so we did not get to see the killer back yard foliage :( but i'd like to go in spring next time. I will say that the front, wraparound porch is delightful. there is a ton of lovely little objects out there, greenery arrangements, etc, and a PORCH SWING YAYYYY!! you can smoke out there, too, if you smoke.
the breakfasts are really good. the room in which guests eat breakfast is really good, too. fireplace, pretty, table service, very pretty, very lovely in the morning with the sunshine. the late-night snacks are good. During the colder months, we brought our own bottles of wine, & were able to put them on the sill right outside our room's window instead of using the fridge downstairs. b/c who wants to do the stairs every time you need a refill when drinking wine?
Also, this place is right on the main road in adamstown. you can walk to the mad hatter antique mall (maybe 2-3 blocks), which is not a bad mall at all. make sure in warmer months, you go to schupp's grove flea market. it is the best flea market i've been to. it's full of cool, old junk, vs just junk. great deals. closer to the turnpike are some other antique malls in which i have gotten killer steal-deals on great pieces over several trips. Adamstown is by far my fave antiquing place. this is not necessarily b/c of the huge selection (tho i do love that, b/c americans loooooove options) but because of the deals on their antiques. & really, unless you are pretty familiar with adamstown & its antique malls, have been there enough that you dont need to spend the night in order to have 2 full days to antique (which is actually not enough given the amount of malls), it is best to stay over. I like the adamstown inns' B&B, & i wont stay elsewhere in or near adamstown. i make a trip to adamstown just to stay there for a romantic, quiet, relaxing weekend. the B&B is so nice that you really could just skip the antiquing & stay in with your honey all weekend. :)

Room Tip: i've only stayed in the jade room, & it is definitely where i'd stay again. the 3rd floo...

“A Magical Time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

We visited the Adamstown Inn for a birthday weekend and we couldn't have chosen a better location. The bed and breakfast is very romantic with wonderful rooms and excellent service. Even though it was a bed and breakfast we felt like we were in our own private niche throughout the weekend. We stayed at the Cobalt suit which included a two person jacuzzi and our own fireplace and balcony. We also booked the Royal Treatment package and got delicious treats, a dinner certificate and all the information we needed to explore Lancaster. The rooms very big and very charming. The Inn is not in Lancaster but if you have a car you should not have any problems getting there. The Adamstown Inn gives you everything you would expect if you are looking for an escape weekend.

“Really Enjoyed Our Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

We spent 4 nights at the Amethyst Inn in the Topaz Room. We love old houses, especially Victorian ones, so we fell in love with this house. Our room was pretty and clean. The bed was cozy and comfortable. The bathroom was a good size. The shower head is over the Jacuzzi and had adequate pressure for a good long shower and we never ran out of water. I only used the Jacuzzi one time when we arrived. It was great after many hours in the car.The door to the bathroom doesn't have a lock but that wasn't an issue for us but maybe for some. Also, in order to get the door shut we had to kind of shut it hard because of a tight fit, which made noise that we were afraid might bother a neighboring room. Our main door to the hall didn't shut flush (but still locked) and there is a little daylight towards the bottom that shows through. Such is old houses. Not an issue for us as our house has the same problems but maybe for some. There was WiFi but it was very weak and sometimes nonexistant in our upstairs room but was OK downstairs. I only used my smart-phone and it was able to connect 3G for data most of the time when I couldn't get WiFi in our room. We found the breakfasts to be really good. Each morning we got something different and enjoyed it. Each day when we returned from our outings we were greeted with a nice little gift on the bed which was a really nice touch. The room could use some kind of a shelf or very small night stand on the wall side as I couldn't put my glasses, book etc down. I had to get out of bed and use the night stand on the far side. Otherwise, the room was convenient. There was off-street parking up a steep driveway on the right side of the house. We never had the chance to meet the owners as they were away while we were there. The staff that was there was very helpful and friendly.

“Quaint cottage in a good location.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

We stayed in the Dragonfly Cottage. Very comfortable beds and really enjoyed the hot tub. The fireplace was a nice touch but the living room furniture is uncomfortable.

A little disappointed in the breakfast, 4 boxes of dried cereal, instant oatmeal and store bought muffins.
The Inn is in a good location, centrally located to Reading, Lancaster, Intercourse and Harrisburg.

Be sure to visit the gift shop at the main Inn for unique items.

Thank you for choosing one of our Vacation Homes for your visit in Lancaster County. We love knowing that guest had a fabulous time. We were sorry to hear about the misunderstanding about breakfast. Staying in one of our vacation homes is different than our Bed and Breakfast accommodations. All of our Vacation Rentals have fully equipped kitchens and breakfast in not included in our vacation rental pricing. As a courtesy for guests which arrive late and are unable to visit the grocery store, we stock cereal for the children and muffins from a local bakery, milk, teas and coffee.

As stated in our rental contract, a full breakfast, delivered each morning to the vacation home is available for an additional cost if arrangements are made in advance.

Fortunately, we do have the space in the Dragonfly Cottage to accommodate 6 guests with the use of a sleep sofa. Unfortunately, sofa beds are not the most comfortable. We have recently purchased an air mattress to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

We look forward to creating a great vacation experience in Lancaster County, PA.
