“Best B & B in the West”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2007

We’ve been making annual visits to Ashland for 35 years, and we’ve been staying at the Romeo Inn for over 20 of those years. We’ve stayed at other B&Bs in Ashland and around the world, but we’ve never stayed in one that’s even close to the quality of the Romeo Inn.

The Inn is a home away from home, a quiet and relaxing retreat from the madding world. It’s beautifully appointed, warmly and tastefully decorated, and spotlessly clean. We love sitting on the patio next to the beautiful garden or curling up with a book on the living room sofa. The breakfasts are generous, fresh, healthy and delicious.

However, the innkeepers, Don and Deana, are the best thing about the Inn. The Inn has had three sets of owners, and we’ve known and liked all of them, but Don and Deana are by far our favorites. The are uniformly warm, friendly, accommodating, humorous, helpful, brave, courageous, and bold. (Don will happily show you his merit badge collection!)

We travel and vacation from time to time throughout the year, but our annual week at the Inn is the most relaxing vacation we take all year.

“Lovely Garden & Pool, very controlling owners who can be rude”

Everything in all the other posts (both good and bad) is true. You have to decide if the positives are worth the negatives to you.

Our room was very comfortable and well decorated (in the classic B&B flowered print style), the public rooms are nice, the place is spotless, the breakfast was good. There is a refrigerator for guests, and a cookie jar and baked goods available during the day.

A major attraction is a decent-sized garden with a great hammock, and a reasonable-sized pool (not large, but big enough to do laps in). Both are perfect for Ashland summer weather, and you can even use them after check-out.

The main disadvantage is an air of rigidity and control. From the sign on the door specifying a limited time-slot for check-in, to the rope barring access to the kitchen, you are frequently reminded of what you can and can't do.The owners are not unfriendly, and they can be helpful. But when we checked out 9 minutes late (albeit on a holiday), one of them spoke very rudely to me.

  • Liked — Garden, Hammock w/view, pool, cupcakes
  • Disliked — air of control, rudeness of owner

where to begin? my stay at romeo inn in quaint ashland, oregon was an absolute delight! there are not enough good things to be said about this lovely little b & b. stayed in the canterbury suite this most recent visit, but have also previously stayed in the stratford suite (which has a jacuzzi!). both rooms were incredibly spacious, with large bathrooms, beautiful furnishings and decorative touches. the inn itself is impeccably clean, comfy, and cozy, and its keepers are respectfully sociable-- you want to talk, they'll talk; you want to be left alone, they'll leave you alone. (but, they're lovely people, and you'll want to talk to them!)
since one of the most important aspects of a b & b is the second b (breakfast), i'll spend a little time elaborating on the gourmet offerings. the guest book located in each room refers to the breakfast as lavish, and it definitely is! each morning's breakfast has several courses, beginning, naturally, with coffee or tea (coffee is fantastic), then a fruit smoothie or fresh squeezed juice. next comes a starch of sorts, a scone or muffin (deana-- who does most of the baking-- makes scones to die for). next, a fruit course-- some days a salad, others a yogurt parfait, etc. finally, the main course: some delicious conception of eggs, or waffles, or french toast-- you name it! they strive for variety, and i've never had eggs two days in a row (though everything is so good, it wouldn't bother me if i had). and no worries, when scheduling your stay, you will be asked if you have any food allergies, dietary needs, or dislikes, and don and deana are incredibly accommodating; if you hate mushrooms, they won't serve you a mushroom omelette and expect you to pick out the mushrooms. breakfast is served 8:30- 9:30, and you definitely want to make sure you're awake for it!
in addition to breakfast, deana also conjures daily snacks which are in the common area leading to the pool out back. near the snacks are also complimentary coffee and tea, as well as soft drinks which are located in the guest fridge-- yes, guest fridge. so, if you have leftovers from one of the many wonderful area restaurants, you've got a place to put them.
the pool and patio area is lovely, with different places to sit, lounge chairs, etc. the pool is well-maintained, and definitely spacious for a few guests to use at a time. there is also a jacuzzi located in this area. adjacent to the pool is an extensive garden, inhabited by one of the friendliest (and most attention-loving) orange tabby cats i have ever met: Buster. if you visit romeo inn, you will surely get to know Buster. he's an outdoor cat, so don't worry if you have allergies, because he's not allowed inside the inn. nestled among the garden area are different benches and the most comfortable hammock known to man.
over all, my stays at romeo inn have been what a stay at a b & b should be: relaxing, care-free, and fulfilling. i would recommend it to anyone.

“Superb stay at Romeo Inn!”

We flew all the way from the East coast and chose to stay at this awesome Inn on the recommendation of someone we knew. Good advice! The room we stayed in was gorgeous! Deana has a decorator's eye in this luxurious room with fireplace and private entrance. Ironed sheets!! Are you serious??? And the breakfasts...scrumptious: fresh squeezed juice or smoothie to start, muffin or scone (served with homemade jelly), fruit course, and then the breakfast entree. Who's needs lunch?? Daily snacks and a guest refrig for chilling one's wine completed the food front. The lovely patio area with pool, hot tub, and oversized hammock made for a very peaceful spot for rest and relaxation. Newspapaers in the fireplaced living room made us feel right at home. Don and Deana are quick to please and are just great people to have a conversation with. It is clear they want to their guests to have a very homey experience. The Inn is in walking distance to a bustling downtown and the theater experience is awesome. Even if Shakespeare is not one's cup of tea, there are also contemporary plays concurrent with the Bard's.

“Best B&B EVER!!”

In January my wife and I stayed at the Romeo Inn B&B in Ashland, OR. It was a wonderful stay! We were close to Mt. Ashland skiing which was really convenient, and enjoyed the close walk to downtown Ashland, what a cute little town. The service at the Inn was great. Our breakfasts were better than restaurant quality. The food was unique, fresh, and tasty combinations of fruit, scones, muffins, egg dishes and every bite was awesome. I'd like to just eat there all the time, Deana is a fabulous chef. Don was a card, always had a joke and a smile, together they made the stay really a comfortable and welcoming experience. Our room was fantastic. We stayed in the one with a fireplace, jet tub-for-two and everything was absolutely spotless clean. It was a great trip and someplace we would really love to go back to. I can recommend staying there with all confidence that Don and Deana work hard to make everything perfect, they do a really nice job!
