I planned a romantic trip to Ashland with husband. Looking online I found this B&B which was reasonable priced for the area and the good reviews. I emailed the owner, Dermott indicating my room interest and date and I heard nothing back. I then followed up 1 week later with a phone call. Dermott saw my email and room request but no longer had the room available. He wasn’t very pleasant on the phone. This should have been my first sign. He offered another room which I accepted. I then asked for an email confirmation. I never received one. I followed up 2 days later and he finally sent me the email confirmation. This should have been my second sign. Either way I put it to the back of my mind.
One month later we were in Ashland. We arrived at the B&B during check in hours. The door was locked and no one answered. There was a cell phone to call so we did. Dermott answered and stated he was running a quick errand and would be there in 2 minutes. 15 minutes later he showed up. He then very rudely (no remorse at all) informed us he over booked and did not have a room available! He said he called another B&B earlier across town that had a room available. He didn’t offer to compensate us and he never bothered to call us (he had my cell) to let us know earlier he had over booked.
He then called that B&B to see if the room was still available as he didn’t put a hold on it. Thankfully it was still available. He showed us on the map how to get there. He didn’t apologize, he didn’t offer to compensate us, and in fact it was like he just didn’t care. The other B&B we stayed at was nice and ironically the owner informed us that this isn’t the first time Dermott “over booked” and has sent other visitors his way. We pushed the unpleasant incident behind us and enjoyed the rest of our time in Ashland.
Just be careful if you plan on staying here.
