After several hours of driving Hwy 5, I was tired and chose this hotel because it was less like a motel than others nearby, that is, no exterior room entrances and hallways. The room itself was comfortable if small, and the king size bed took up most of the space. Still, the rate was acceptable and a continental breakfast was included, so I checked in and wandered about. The floor I was on connected through a doorway to the upper parking area, but the security door that that was supposed to be "secure 24 hours" was not. Someone, presumably hotel staff, had securely taped a Super 8 business card over the key latch and the door easily opened without having to use the room key it claimed to require. Also, I picked this hotel because it has a no pets policy, yet I saw at least two sets of guests nonchalantly walking their dogs in the hallway. The breakfast was sad and minimal and the bench guests can sit on out front to relax was in such poor repair it threatened to topple over on its own. I sent an email to management about these issues after my stay and have heard absolutely nothing. So last time I stayed in Ashland I chose a different hotel with real, working security and a light breakfast delivered directly to the room.
