“Paper thin walls”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

Our room was tacky and not clean. We had bugs in the bathroom and moths on the ceiling. You could hear the people above and beside us. At 10:30 PM the owner knocked on our door to tell us to turn down the TV because the people above us thought it was too loud. We could hardly hear it in our room.

The shower was stuck in the middle of one of the walls. It was just strange. We left in the middle of the night. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

The price was way too high for the quality of the room.

“Mixed Experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2009

The hosts were gracious and very accommodating. They went well out of their way to help us with directions to other areas of interest. They also turned out to be repositories of information on local history. The pictures of the place on their website must have been taken years ago; porches crumbling a bit and the grounds have gone to seed since then. I was rather disappointed that the hot tub on the roof was not in service, though there is one on the porch. There is a good view from a platform on top of the roof (though the exterior wooden stairs to get to it are old and narrow and should not be attempted by the elderly, the heavy, or little kids). There were many interesting items in the house. An unusual mélange of genuine antiques and junk. If you like old books they have a large collection in the basement library. Inside the manor it is darker, a bit more gloomy with less light than in the photos, but I would not call it creepy. The mannequins were odd. We enjoyed sitting on the porch in the evening and listening to the frogs and crickets. The beds were clean and neat but I have to admit that the mattresses were not comfortable. I think they are just old and some are too thin and springy or have developed spots you sink into. The towels had a strong stale smell. There was a huge deep tub in the attic bathroom, which was excellent for soaking, but unfortunately the hot water ran out before it was finished filling. The couple downstairs said their tub did not run out of hot water, so if you stay in the ground floor Cimarron or Butterfly rooms you should probably be fine on hot water. This place was excellent for birding. Many species of birds. Came across wild turkeys on a meadow walk. Extensive acres for exploring. Several different pairs of red cardinals were constantly near the house. The pecan pancakes and scrambled eggs for breakfast were good. Waffles and biscuits just okay. The place settings and chandeliers were lovely. Hosts gave us a ride in their roadster. It’s a good location for exploring the Glass Mountains.
In sum, this is an interesting place and less expensive than most B&Bs, but eccentric and not as comfortable. It’s the sort of place older folks will enjoy more than the twenty-something set. In the end, though, a B&B should have a bed that makes you reluctant to get up. If you are a serious birder, however, don't pass over this B&B.

“WOW - Very Secluded, Private Bed & Breakfast - Excellent Hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2008

This space is too limited to describe our multiple visits too Heritage Manor. We got married at this facility and invited our entire family. AJ & Carolyn were the best hosts and accommodated all of our requests.

My wife made all of the arrangements with Carolyn from Wedding Time to Dinner. Talk about a Chef - AJ is a master of the kitchen with his Prime-Rib. We informed them of our dinner requests, brought our own party snacks and invited all of our immediate family and a few close personal friends.

WOW - what a wedding. We had the honeymoon suite - very elegant. Our Children all shared two of the upstairs loft rooms and our best friend even had her own room. Off the beaten path, yes of course, Classical - the roof top view will let you see many of the area towns for miles & miles.

Antiques - scatterd around the entire estate. Visit the library for a relaxing book and you can even see the live COD fish.

If you are expecting a modern showroom setting - find another venue. Want to step back in time, competely secluded enviorenment, take a walk on the outdoor path, feel completely safe at all times, Caroly & AJ will welcome you into their parlor and their home.

Want to feel pampered - call them today. I can't wait to go back to the Heritage Manor. Contact us and we will share our experience with you.

“Creepy!”

We had a difficult time finding this place. When we did come across it we were unsure if we were at the right place or not. No signs of life. It looked like a haunted mansion. The propietors were friendly enough, but the place was just strange. Our assigned room was so small with the bed against a sloped wall that whomever were to sleep on the inside best not be claustrophobic. Honestly, the place was so creepy to us we ended up giving our apologies and driving to the nearest hotel rather than stay there.

To avoid getting lost when driving to Heritage Manor Bed & Breakfast Inn, go to our website 1aj.org and print the map and directions to our Inn. We are in the country and very rural, the setting--quiet, peaceful and serene. We have welcomed over 46,000 guests from all 50 states and 25 countries. We don't think we frightened many of our guests :) many are repeat customers. The Rainbow & Butterfly Suite is spacious.

“A Great Breakfast!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2005

My wife and I stayed at the Heritage Manor in October of 2005. There are some positive and negatives in this very unusual house. We stayed in the upstairs room-pretty tight. The bathroom accomodations are not too great. If you like antiques, you will love this place as it is full of them. There is much to explore. The breakfast was excellent. It was an interesting stay. The hosts were very good.
