I was in town on business. I stayed at this hotel as it was in very close proximity to my client. I spent 5 nights so I am pretty confident in my analysis. If you are a business traveler let me just warn you that apparently, this hotel doubles as a college dorm for the University of Akron, wish I had known this before staying. My room was on the 3rd floor, I found that the dorm rooms were at the very minimum directly above me, at the worst, the rest of the hotel. I had to call the front desk on the first evening because there was apparently a fight above me somewhere that sounded as if the ceiling was coming crashing down. All this during a conference call. The front desk person, who was less than friendly when I checked in asked me to describe the noise, describe what I heard, asked where it was coming from, I even shared the F profanity that was clearly being annunciated multiple times. You know, I wanted to say, just take my word for it. I am not making this up. Then, at 3:00 am I was treated to a party through the cold air return in my bathroom. Make no mistake, this is not a hotel, but a college dorm. The place is covered with college students acting like college students. Nothing wrong with that, just not in my hotel. Additionally trying to get a meal is even a further challenge. Room service, does not answer their phone, front desk was no help. I ended up walking down to the lobby and went to a grill which was a college food line.
The hotel at first blush is fascinating and charming. It is nothing more than a dorm. You have to wait behind hoards of students to get on an elevator. They cater totally to the college students. I would absolutely not recommend this hotel to anyone. It is actually very sad. It is a national historical register location. Very disappointed. And final straw...ran out of hot water in a 5 minute shower. They just should stick to college students.
