We stayed there even though we read the neg. reviews. We wished we had camped instead---it IS really awful! The other reviews say the owners are great, etc. We really don't care who the owners are (never saw them anyway), how nice they are or what their political views are---we just wanted a nice, clean room. The room was NOT worth the price (esp. in this economy, we would rather save a bit more for a better place)---it was dirty, the bathroom had hair in the tub and there was no toilet paper. The sheets and cover were stained. Maybe this place is only interested in attracting teenagers and partyers as some of the reviews indicated. Not good for family or even fishermen.

We've stayed here a couple of times over the years. Every year friends of ours stay at the Avon Cottages and we usually do as well, but when we can't take the time off, we'll get a room at the Avon Motel for a night or two. They're owned by the same folks. The location is perfect and the owners are gems. The price is reasonable. The room was clean and we had no issues. Unlike several of the previous reviewers, we don't spend our entire time in the room so we're not particular about amenities like refrigerators and microwaves...although our room had both. The beach is short walk away and there's stores across the street.

This is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. It was cramped and the air conditioner wouldn't den keep the room cool. The comforter for the bed was disgusting so I ended up throwing it on the floor. There were several stains on the carpet making me want to gag. The deck outside the motel was done by some cheap-skate, because it was done with old plywood with splinters. Be sure not to walks barefooted on the carpet as I was cut by an old staple. Even if you were born in a sewer don't stay here.

There were numerous issues with this hotel:

-there was a slashed cut in the wooden door to the room which allowed you to look through it to the outside (and to the inside) if you looked closely
-rust all over the fridge and the microwave
-mildew on the shower curtain at the bottom
-there was no remote in the room and when we requested one from the office, we were given one with batteries that didn't work. We then had to get the batteries replaced and were simply given a booklet to program the remote with the TV, which we couldn't get to work
-yelling and loud outside the room at 1am
-overall, not very clean
