It's been many years since we were last in Turgutreis and we were amazed at the scale of development that's taken place (which is pretty much true of the whole Bodrum peninsular). But the Palmiye is a very pleasant small complex in a quiet area, just a couple of streets away from the beach, shops, restaurants and market square, all of which can be reached in minutes. The surrounding area is a mix of private Turkish houses and other small apartments/boutique hotels - all in all a really good location and we were very pleased with our choice. The large pool is well maintained with lots of seating around the pool and in the pool bar area (and some resident tortoises in the corner of the garden!). Our double bed apartment was a good size and adequately equipped for self catering although we ate out all the time and found a couple of excellent restaurants nearby. We visited in early October and our small balcony never got any sun; perhaps it's better in Summer. Our only real issue was the availabilty of hot water - fine if the sun had heated the solar panels during the day but cloudy weather meant a couple of cold showers in the evening, and no hot water at all in the mornings (we mentioned this to the owners and electric heating was used one evening). The views from the nearby beach are wonderful, the sunsets behind the offshore islands are spectacular and you can walk for miles along the beach and coastal pathways. The Palmiye is a good value complex in a great location and well worth a visit.
