“DONT GO HERE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

Just returned disgusting filthy hovel no water to flush toilets, electric shocks, filthy pool, disgusting food, management rude and obnoxious, never stayed in such a hovel, holiday company eventually moved us top the sunhill hotel up the road which was like a 20 star hotel in comparison felt very sorry for the few families left in the guler. |If you have booked this hotel for next year think very seriously about going I am sure you will regret spending good money on such a disgusting stinking place.

“It could be worse”

I arrived back from Turkey this morning and looking at the other reviews on here, with this hotel you get what you pay for. I (20yrs) went with my boyfriend (21yrs) and my dad and his partner (approx 50's)

There is a steep hill leading up to the hotel and then there are about 34 steps up to the hotel reception. Personally It wasn't that bad, and once youve eaten sometimes its good to burn off a few calories!
There is a Bus stop right outside the hotel though so you dont always have to come up the steep hill, the bus is 2.75 lira and takes u to the Bodrum.

We were placed in the Self Catering rooms which were all separate (even though we were All inclusive but apparently the apartments for us were being renovated), had there own front door and were max 3 high but with the height differences of the hotel only the 3rd floor had stairs to the door.
The Rooms - We first had a problem with our bathroom having small flies in it, once the reception were informed the cleaners were there almost immediately and the problem was dealt with.
If you are looking for a spacious shower cubicle, this is not what you will find, when you have long hair to wash you knock you elbows against the wall and the unit, but for a week, I coped with it.
The beds are quite firm and suprisingly the pillows were pretty good too.
We had a problem with our balcony door which took many attempts to open it, after probably waking up everyone else in the block.

GET A SAFE!!! We arrived early hours of the morning and didn't purchase a safe which is £15, as we just wanted to sleep, the next day we went out after having our bathroom cleaned, we also told maintenance that the air con wasn't working and they said they would get it sorted, we left the room, putting our money away in a bag and inside a suitcase and while we were out we had 300 lira stolen, either the cleaners or someone who can fixed the air con are probably to blame, but to be able to claim you have to call the police and hire a translator, so just keep your valuables safe as we learnt the hard way!!

The swimming pool was out of action for 4 days after they hadn't cleaned it properly then put to many chemicals into the pool and it reacted, after it had been filtered properly it was a good size pool and my boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed the water slide!

The food is standard, lots of salad but it is FRESH, selection of meats and cheeses, Breakfast consists of eggs eggs and more eggs, and isn't particularly appetising. Lunch and dinner again have the salad and I highly recommend the soup as it was the hottest food item they had. Think it must have been a Traditional trate to have food luke warm because even eating out the restaurant the food wasn't very hot.

When you exchange your money, be sure to take english sterling with you to, as the shops don't exchange properly and you get a better deal using english. If you are a big fan of HOLLISTER, A&F, CONVERSE, ADIDAS, UGG's, i would advice only filling your suitcase half (as Turkeys airport staff are strict with the 20kg and dont allow anymore) They have SOOO much stuff out their that is reasonably good copies of these famous brands and you can get them for nothing.

Recommended places to visit.

Divers Restaurant in Gumbet, it is located down a side road but it is so calm and relaxed in this restaurant, the food is really nice and the staff are really friendly, the only bad thing is my dad went to get up from his chair and nearly fell down the two steps which were behind them but i think they've moved the table now!

If you can find him, his name is PETER PAN! but looks like Jack Sparrow. He has a Bar called My Moon which has good food and drink and he has 12 members of staff which are always dancing and getting everyone in the mood, He can also be found along the Beach by the Water Sports, we went on a boat trip which cost us about 50lira each and it was well worth it, free drinks on the boat and free food and it ran from 10am til 5pm. He is really friendly and makes you feel very welcome where ever you are, and he even let my boyfriend go out on one of his jet ski boats for free!.

Tuesday market in Bodrum is very popular although it is full of the same Fake designer clothes, watches, football shirts, bags and belts that you see all around the towns, does get very busy but its the experience that counts.

PLEASE BE AWARE THERE ARE CATS WHICH LIVE AT THIS HOTEL!!!!!
I am a very big cat fan but other people at the hotel had clearly not read any reviews and decided that they had the right to try and hurt the cats, They are more like kittens and there are about 5 of them but may vary. They are very playful and friendly, we had them in our room for a while, and they caused no harm, but let them out as we went to bed.

Overall this hotel could be better, could be worse, but we paid about £12 a day for the hotel and with the included drinks and food, you can't really complain, the food is edible and its just a case of how fussy you are.

“this hotel is not as bad as people make out”

me and my girl friend stay here from the 26th sept- 3oct All inclusive for £236 per a person. and we had a lovely holiday. the staff made the holiday and are allways happy and the people that work at the pool bar are so happy and making jokes with you. the food is ok BUT YOU GET WOT YOU PAY FOR. if you do get bored of the food you can take a short walk in to town where there is places to eat very cheap. the pool bar do play music from 10am to 11pm but it not over the top.

we had room 775 that look over the sea and the veiws are some the best seeing all the boats coming in and going.

one down side i would say from talking to a few people at the hotel. well are room was in a need of a deep clean. like mold on the boil pipes. and the air con made one hell of a noice in the bedroom.

but overall a good hotel and staff all the time happy. and the pool the kids will like.
people make out the steps up to the hotel are a killer.. there not that bad. but after you have did the 30or so steps the view makes up for it

we will be coming back to this hotel next year .thanks again to all the people we meet and to the staff you make are holiday

Room Tip: rooms at the front of the hotel. if you get a room looking over the pool you will be woke up at 10am...

“DONT DO IT !!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

My husband and i returned yesterday from a week spent at this hotel. it is the first time i have ever been on holiday and looked forward to coming home!!!! We were warned in advance about the steps leading to hotel reception but were not told about the steep hill we had to climb from the town to the hotel! this had no lighting and no footpath and was very dangerous especially at night! We arrived at five in the morning and there was no where in the hotel to get a drink...no coffee or soft drinks machine. we paid fifteen ENGLISH pounds (as requested by the receptionist) for a safety deposit box. we were taken to our apartment (after being told by our travel agent that we had a hotel room) the apartment was a self catering apartment but had no facilities to make a drink or anything. it looked like it had been decorated in the sixties and hadnt been updated or cleaned since. the safety deposit box was in the wardrobe but then hubby realised that you could actually pick it up and carry it around...mmm really safe! there was only a bottom sheet on the bed and a thin candlewick sort of bedspread that didnt fit. hubby spent twenty mins cleaning the shower before we could use it but when he turned the water on the shower head flew off across the room!!! never mind, we just had to wait for the poeple upstairs to have a shower as every time they did the water leaked down into aour apartment! The cupboard door fell off int he lounge and every single curtain was threadbare and hanging off the rail, the sink was unusable as it was filthy. i felt like crying. we decided we would make the best of it and hoped we would see things different after a bit of a sleep. WRONG! we went up to breakfast to find the restaurant had to be shared with four or five semi wild cats. they would beg for food and even climb on the tables! the food was very basic and more or less the same every day. The sauces and fruit and yoghurts etc were left out continuously day after day, and cakes that were not eaten in the morning were taken to the snack bar at five in the afternoon! The only decent thing about breakfast was the fried eggs but on the third morning we were informed we couldnt have any as the gas had gone! the all inclusive was a farce...we ate out nearly every day. there were only three spirit drinks available, raki, vodka and gin! the actual snack bar...which only served burger and chips shut at 4pm. it was awful. The room wasnt cleaned, the cleaner came in, emptied the bin and left clean towels,,,,that was it, no clean sheets for the whole week, and when we left my husband found someone elses dirty socks under the bed! we couldnt swim in the pool as it had a layer of algae floating on it. I have to say that the majority of staff were really nice and tried to help as much as they could but there were a few who were really rude and just laughed in your face when you made a complaint. By the weekend every guest there had contacted their rep and got them to come to the hotel. that is not an exaggeration, there was Thomson, olympic, Thomas Cook, etc etc. some guests were moved but others were given complaint forms. when the reps left the receptionist then maoned at everyone for complaining! Gumbet itself was great and we would go again but def not in this hotel...i could go on all night telling you how dirty and bad it was but you only have to read the majority of reviews to see.

Room Tip: done bother

“Good & Bad Holiday”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

I stayed at the Guler Resort from 26/9/11 - 03/9/11 with my girlfriend (im 21 & shes 18). We paid £650 including transfers for our holiday.

Upon arrival we were greeted by the bell-boy who told us to leave our case's with him and he will gladly get them carted up the stairs. There were approx 35 steep steps to the hotel reception, but having read up on this before I went it wasnt really a problem. Once there we were given our room within a matter of minutes. The room we were given was a state. There were marks all over the walls, the views were disgusting, the toilet and bathroom wasnt nice at all and in general I wasnt happy with the room at all. But... In fairness I went to complain and was moved to a new room straight away. The new room was lovely! Nice and basic, very clean, and the new room had a fantastic view overlooking the pool and overlooking Gumbet itself (room 208).

The pool area is fantastic, cleaned every day and night. The pool bar was in constant supply of drinks all day longand both waiters had a smile and a lugh with you all day (they work very very long hours aswell). There wasnt much entertainment to be fair, but it wasnt down to the hotel. It was down to people not wanting to take part. Reszul the animations person was fantastic, always laughing and joking with people and trying his hardest to get people in the mood to take part in games and competitions.

Food in the hotel is very very basic. Breakfast consists of: Toast, cereals, cold meats, salad, omelletes, boiled eggs, frankfurter sausages (always in some sort of sauce though) olives etc. Lunch by the pool bar consisted of: Hamburgers, Cheeseburgers and chips. The burgers are no where near the best in the world so we stuck to chips, and on the odd occasion we had chip buttys. Dinner consisted of: cold meats, salad, frankfurter sausages in some sort of sauce, meatballs (although they didnt look like the meatballs I know) cheesy pasta etc. To be fair the food was very poor, but it was to be expected anyway.

The staff were very friendly and always willing to help. The room was cleaned daily, and to a very good standard, and on occasions the cleaner made a design on our bed that was out of this world. Reading other reviews PLEASE DO NOT BELIEVE what they say about your things being stolen, this is very untrue. We walked in on the cleaners a few times and lets jsut say they was more focused on designing the bed than looking through your belongings!

The surrounding area of the hotel isnt fantastic, but at the bottom of the hill you will find the 'strip' which is very nice. You will be pestered when you go down to the strip by near enough every shop, bar and restaurant owner to come into thier establishment, but all you have to do is either ignore them or so no thanks and walk away. I would recomend The Royal Restaurant, The Windmill Restaurant & Divers Restaurant. The Later Restaurant you may have to ask for as it is hidden down a side street but is a fantastic place to eat. Chicos bar is very lively, although the Manager can pester you wilst walking by. Radio pub, which is directly at the bottom of the hill leading up to the hotel is a nice friendly place and shows all sport and things such as BGT & X-Factor.I would steer clear of places like leo's pub and China Town, not worth the hassle! PLEASE DO NOT GO TO LOVELY JUBBLY, IT IS HORRIBLE! it is just a greasey kebab place!

The beach is 10 mins from the hotel and is lovely. All sunbeds are free although the people who own them ask that you buy drinks off of them in return.

All in All our holiday was good. The stairs are a nuisance, but as I say we knew that. The entertainment was poor, but again it wasnt the hotels fault it was the guests as they didnt want to do any activities! the food for me was poor, if you are a fussy eater the food is not for you. In general the hotel was very clean, staff very friendly and the view from the pool deck is fantastic!

Id give the hotel a 6/7 out of 10. If like me and the missus you are a couple looking for a cheap clean hotel to stay and and party of A night time then I would recomendthis to you as it is very clean and is a matter of minutes away from the nightlife and beach!

One last thing, I would highly recomend a Turkish Bath provided to you by Aykut. No need to look for him if you want the bath, he ALWAYS finds you lol.
