i have stayed there every year since i was 1 and i am now 24 and i still go there. I am so suprised about the bad reviews for mels hotel, may i also say some of the reviews made me so angry!! i can not believe some of the things people have said, they really made me annoyed! The first time i actually remember going to mels i remember one man called alli who always made me simle, all the staff at mels hotel are always happy and its a very happy environment. The food is excellent and the service is also very good. My family are very good friends with the owners and the owner and his wife and sons are very nice and are a lovley family. The swimming pool isnt that big but is big enough to have fun in and the staff come for a swim and are very good with children! The rooms are small but are average compared to some of the places i've stayed at. The room i always stay in is a family room and my parents room are always clean and comftable and the cleaners are polite and always clean the room. If your expecting a 5* hotel then this is not the place but is still a great place to stay.When i was there i ripped my top and the cleaners were happy to sew it back together for me at no expense. I was very happy with my stay and i am always very happy when i go there and i will be going back this year and the year after. I love mels hotel and all the staff there!!!!!!!!

so. on our arrival we were "greeted" by a very moody and scruffy bloke who didnt seem bothered if we were there or not. we were taken up to our room by an equally moody and scruffy young lad.
as soon as we enterd the block our room was in we saw old beds and matresses piled up on the stairs. then when we entered our room the smell of damp and mustiness hit us.
the floor was filthy, the bathroom was scummy, the electric was dodgy (even had a poster in the room explaining what to do if the electric cut out!!)
the view out the window was of someones trampy living quarters.
we complained to the staff, who werent really bothered, and we were told we would get a new shower curtain!
after complaining to our rep, we got moved to another room the next day, but only after he had to watch the staff clean it properly.
to be fair the bedding and towels were clean, but we had to ask for them and also had to ask for loo roll.
it is a bed and breakfast but we didnt sample the food, just didnt want to risk it!
the pool was equally dirty...cloudy water, stunk of chlorine and had dirty, broken tiles.
IM NOT EXAGERATING AT ALL......we did not pay a lot for our holiday so we did not expect luxury, we knew it would be basic, but all we did expect was for it to be clean.
the reviews of this hotel on here saying it is nice are really out of date as the pictures and comments do not reflect what we saw and experienced...either that or the poeple who wrote them have no hygeine standards!!!
speaking to the locals, even they would screw their nose up if you tell them your staying at mels!
apparantly is used to be a nice place but it has got different "management" so has gone dowhill..sorry to dissapoint but if youve got a holiday booked to stay here, change it!!
however i would go back to gumbet,(obv not this hotel) its really good. nice people, nice beach (thank god for the beach)!! nice food nice atmosphere..........

Just returned and had a great holiday. If your expecting 5 star hotel then this is not the place to stay. The hotel has a great location and the staff are all very friendly and helpful, the room we had was clean, tidy and comfortable. The room was cleaned and clean towels were provided throughout our stay, the hotel is basic but provides everything you need. Bathrooms are basic but shower was great with hot water always available.
we had a great balcolny overlooking the beach, that was lovely to sit out and relax before going out in the evening and in the mornings.

The hotel is right on the beach and has also got a nice pool at the back, where we spent a good few days.

The staff at the hotel we always friendly and very helpful to us and we never found that anything was too much trouble for them.

We will go back again

on arrival reception staff were very moody and grumpy we got showed to out room and let in on walking into the room the smell was damp and musty floor was flithy covered in mud so when you took your shoes off you had dirt and anything else that was on the floor on your feet!!! where do i start with the bathroom soap scum was everywhere looked like this had not been cleaned for ages the toilet was black and grimy and felt dirty even being in there , the beds wer covered in stains and we had an infestation of ants in our room which was absolutly disgusting it would have been more hygeinic to sleep on the beach !!!!!!!!!! i could not wait to leave this hotel and felt like leaving as soon as i walked in the room i would not reccommened this hotel to any even if you are on a budget , there standard is disgusting and would not let an animal sleep in there let alone people ruined my holiday as your ment to be able to relax but how could we when we had ants all over the place !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
