“Lovely location, friendly staff, great for families & couples”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2010

Having read some very negative reviews about this hotel (just before we went away in August), I was very apprehensive about our stay.........however we were very pleasantly surprised. This hotel is exactly what is says, 3 star, right on the beach. If you want to be pampered in 5 star accommodation, then go elsewhere and pay for it!! My husband and I found the hotel room clean, comfortable, the shower worked and was a good size, the towels and sheets were changed regularly during our 2 week stay. You do have to pay extra for air conditionining, but that is well documented on all the websites. One thing we were quite careful about was to lock all valuables away every day in our suitcases, you can use a safe, but they are located in the reception area and cost 2 Turkish Lira per day which we felt was a bit pricey. We had no problems whatsoever with anything going missing from our room, but we were careful to lock away passports, cameras, money etc when not in use.

The hotel staff were friendly, helpful and basically if you adopt a polite and friendly attitude towards them, then that is how you will be treated. The restaurant and bar staff were a great laugh - we made a big effort to talk to everyone and we were regularly given free plates of chips and/or fresh fruit by the bar staff.

The location was perfect as the Kassandra is situated right at the end of the Bitez strip of restaurants, cafes and bars. The beach is just across the road at the end of the gardens of the hotel and although perhaps not the best, was perfectly ok, plenty of free sunbeds and sunshades.

We also noticed that all the sunbeds along the Bitez strip of beach were free, unlike some European beaches.

When you go for a stroll in the evening, you will undoubtedly get hassled to eat/drink in various restaurants - just be pleasant and patient and after a few days the hassling gets less - or just say we've eaten already and they leave you alone.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Kassandra and can recommend it to couples or families on a budget. We would certainly return there in the future. I would say that it probably would not appeal to singles, because as far as I know, there are no clubs or discos in Bitez. Gumbet which is a five minute bus trip away has lots of clubs. There was no loud music in the early hours to disturb your sleep, so definitely a plus if you are travelling with younger children.

A brilliant, memorable holiday.

“Kassandra - An Honest Critique”

I have to say that after reading reviews on here I thought we were in for a nightmare. To be fair it was not a complete disaster but I do wonder where the stars came from as it is clearly a 2 star by western standards. The room we were allocated had two single beds in the block by the pool (albeit in the back quarter upstairs) despite requesting otherwise. Room itself was appalling with damp patches all over the ceilings and electric plugs which did not work apart from on in the Bathroom. It was reminiscent of a old council flat I once visited many moons ago in South London. We pushed the beds together and made the most of it. We did get hot water every day with a good shower. The cleaners were outstanding though and had fresh towels every day and they even got a double sheet to put over both single beds to make the effort. The hotel reception was not very approachable and the owner was clearly more interested in the Turkish families that stayed there. The air con unit worked to some extent so this was a welcome relief and free (which surpised me) however we did have to ask for the remote control after one night and left us on the first night in searing heat! The air con unit just about lasted the 8 days we stayed there and was leaking badly by the time we left. It was not fixed properly and neither were the plugs. At this point it is important to point out though that the room is just to sleep in and get freshened up so on this score it did the job. We stayed half board and had no expectations of the food. The breakfast was a typically Turkish affair with tomatoes, cucumber and an array of olives cheeses and bread with some cereal. If you like your eggs hardboiled then this is right up your street! As for the evening meals this was a different matter. My partner hated the food with a passion as only once was there any meat edible. I myself am vegetarian so found the salads very nice. Needless to say my girlfriend is the boss so we had to eat out which was no big deal as Bitez offers an array of different food styles to cater for all. The pool was clean of sorts with nice loungers. The bar staff were outstanding and work hard for their lira but the downside is the drinks were extortionate. Shame.

Bitez itself was a mixed bag in my book as those reviews stating "the turkish are really friendly" is slightly tainted when they get paid for working in restaurants and pulling you off the streets! For every 5 turkish waiters and bartenders you might find one really genuine. One restaurant that stood out by a long mile was the Fishermans Place. Outstanding food and hospitality albeit a litte pricey. This is the norm however for Bitez so be warned on your lira! The worst place was the Olypikato (think i spelt that right) who had waiters who would take your money and then miraculously disappear with the change! Avoid!

The beach is definately man made and is wall to wall loungers within touching distance so if your after a smoke free quiet sun lounger forget it. Right opposite the Kassandra Hotel is its own beach but be warned that the sea is full of sand bags, empty containers and assorted debris. For some bizarre reason there are two dead trees with broken glass in various places so be careful.

I have heard that Turgetris is outstanding and much cheaper and quieter with less hassle although no beach. Next time this is where we will head - sadly Bitez did not tick enough boxes for me to return.

“Satisfactory Hotel - Wonderful Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2009

I have just returned from a two week stay at the Kassandra. I went on a bed and breakfast basis with my girlfriend and we really enjoyed it. After reading some of the reviews on here I was worried before we got there and this was heightened when we were allocated room 407! We walked straight back out, but the receptionist had followed to tell us they would be relocating us in a couple of hours when more rooms became free.

To be fair within hours they had moved us to room 301 and from then on had a very pleasant stay. The breakfast is very, very basic and we were told the evening meals weren't up to much either by half-board visitors, but we didn't really bother with breakfast to be honest as we're not keen on the traditional Turkish breakfast which is served. Unfortunately they do not have a toasting machine so we decided not to bother eating there much in the morning.

The barstaff and restaurant staff are all great fun and will make you feel at home, try to get on first name terms with them if you can. Hasan speaks the best English and is the bar manager and does his very best to ensure you have a pleasant stay and enjoy yourselves whilst at the bar area.

I did notice before we left that there is very little on the internet about this hotel so I hope the pictures I have taken give you a good idea of what the hotel is like. I would certainly stay there again but only on a bed and breakfast basis but the rooms are comfortable providing you're not located in the block nearest the pool!

Thanks to Hasan and his team (Mehmet, Jahid, Rashad, Ahmet, Amfi and the rest) for an enjoyable stay. They all came out to wave us off when we were leaving and I was choked, lovely, lovely people.

Finally a word on the resort, Bitez is beautiful and is the best holiday I've had so far, and I like to think I've visited quite a few places. Wonderful restaurants and a nice relaxed atmosphere.
