“DO NOT STAY HERE ITS TERRIBLE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011 via mobile

Please take some time to read this review if you care about where you are going to be staying, the living conditions, the location and the people. SPECIALLY if you are a woman/ group of girls.

LOCATION
Gumbet is a party area slightly outisde of the quaint town of bodrum. Dont get me wrong, i love parties and lively spaces, im 23. For this reason i chose to stay in gumbet but the minute my friends and i got into a taxi to take us to the area, hr expressed his discomfort with the area and said we will soon understand for ourselves what he meant. At first we thought this was an old man who disliked the noisy area and later we were to realize, he was only looking out for us trying to change our minds about staying there. Gumber is terrible, specially if you are a group of girls going alone. The men are sleazy, the bars are full of weird groups of guys who will try to hit on you or even worse, in some cases - drug you.

Hotel kalender is located in the heartof gumbet, and you must not stay in this area unless you are accompanied by a guy. We were followed from one of the bars all the way to our hotel, by guys who kept asking us where we are going, where we are from and if we're from london.

HOTEL ROOM
The rooms are really tiny. We were three of us in one room, and there wasnt even enough place to keep our bag packs. We dint even have big suitcases.

The room is badly maintained. I sat on the bed for 5 minutes after which it gave way and broke. YES, it broke. When i went down to inform the staff they pretended to be shocked that it broke. And when they came up to replace the bed, we noticed, the entire bottom had a few bricks on which the frame of the bed was balancing - which meant it was already broken.

THE BATHROOM
The bathroom is the PITS. The pot was shaking and unstable. The shower was very strange and spewed water in all directions. There was NO hot water for 2 out of the 3 nights we stayed there. When we told th em to fix this, they said no no, its working and that they would look into it, but till we left, nothing was looked into.

The fixtures all started breaking soon too.

SERVICE
The people who have given reviews earlier are all obviosuly friends of the staff or were requested to leave a nice review because it was the nature of those reviews that urged us to book here. The staff doesnt understand any other language except their own and doesnt really make an effort to understand you. The rooms were not cleaned for 2 days, nor were we given fresh towel. When we requested them to do so, they simply tidied up the room - no new sheets, covers or anything.

BREAKFAST
The breakfast which is free, is crap. The bread tastes stale and the cheese spoiled.

I really hope this review gives you a realistic idea and convinces you not to book at this hotel. Im sorry for the length, but its only to help you out - specially groups of girls. If you do decide to stay in gumbet - please carry pepperspray with you, make sure you dont wander off alone, dont have any drinks given to you for free and please do not leave your drinks unattended. This isprobably the most unsafe area in turkey.

“Extremely cheap and great for going with friends (maybe not for couples)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

Location: The hotel is located in the center of gumbet. The location is unbeatable, since it's a short walk to pubs, restaurants, the beach, the domush (minibuses) and the street is not crazy noisy.

Price: My friend and I paid 11 Euro a night (each) to stay in a shared room with other 2 people. I find 11 Euro per person really cheap. The price for private rooms was not much different.

Staff: The guys were nice, but their English is a disaster. It was almost impossible to communicate at all (I asked what time the ferry to Kos departed and they were not able to answer....not a difficult question -BTW try to go to KOS, it's worth it). They staff mistakenly added 2 more people to the room (bad) and we were upgraded to a private room much nicer than the other for the rest of our stay (good).

No outside drinks policy: After reading the other reviews, I was worried that I would
be bullied everytime I entered the hotel regarding the "do not bring outside drinks policy". Not at all. I actually bought a huge bottle of water every day and nobody stopped me -and the policy seems to be common in all gumbet.

Room & Amenities: The shared rooms are ok. I was surprised to find no lockers, which made it seem unsafe (they do have quite small safes in the reception for free). But I stlll left my laptop in the room (did not fit into the safe) and nothing happened. The private rooms are obviously much nicer. Only one morning there was lack of water and electricity for one or 2 hours, other than that the AC worked perfectly (VERY important). The swimming pool is always clean and I didn't find it too noisy even though the room was close to the pool. The breakfast was horrible, you'd better just go to one of this 5-Lira English breakfast that are one block from the hotel.

That's it, good luck in Bodrum!

“I wont be back,”

If i will ever go back to turkey, Hotel Kalander will be the last place i will stay at..The third night a bug walked over my stomach, and it was huge otherwise i wouldnt be saying it.They have this ridiculous rule about drinks at the hotel, it says you cant bring drinks in to the hotel if they are not bought there, i understand if the drinks are something else than water..But when it is water it should be allowed i mean it was 50 degrees everyday..and the food was bad. I would definitely pay alot more than i did for ten nights in that hotel if i could go to a better hotel there. And i hated the staff!!! and there was always people who were not staying at the hotel just partying at night around the pool and my room was next to the pool so it was really hard to get a good night sleep.

We booked direct, and saved alot of money, the Hotels web site is very easy to use and very quick! We arrived late evening and was given a warm Welcome by Tanner. Our room was 10 paces from the swimming pool as were most, a very clean room, comfy bed and free A/C which was great! The pool was clean and the levels were tested daily. All the staff were FAB! Food was very nice and fresh! Im trying to think of a negative, but I REALLY cant! Go and stay here and have a relaxing stress free time.......

Stayed here at beginning of May, great location near all amenities, shops, bars etc.Staff were lovely they can't do enough for you. The pool area was great, nice poolbar and even for so early in the season the vibe round the pool was great. Breakfast was great brilliant start to the day, had such a great time hoping to come back in the summer. A massive, big thank you to all the staff for making my stay so enjoyable.
