It was an absolutely terrible experience.We booked 2beds private room(breakfast included)nearly 2months before,when we got there exhaustedly(whole night ferry trip without sleep), reception guy first told no room for us. After showing our reservation info,he said the price we payed was for a single room!! As all the infos showed clearly both on ours and the hostel's documents, then he reluctantly had to give us a 2beds private room (no breakfast!!), otherwise they asked that we can leave!!

I only stayed here one night, but the family who runs the hotel was especially friendly and helpful. When I missed my bus and came back for another night, they had no more vacancies but very quickly found me a cheaper room elsewhere and had the hotel owner come pick me up. All this in under 10 minutes. I didn't have breakfast there, but the WiFi was plenty fine for emailing and browsing the web (about 250kbps) and it was fairly quiet being away from the main streets. The walk to the bay was about 10 minutes. Taxis took under 5 minutes to show up when called. I would stay here again.

Stayed 2 nights. Staff very obliging and helpfull. 5 min. walking from waterfront, shops and restaurants. Good breakfast. Budget accommodation, but was very adequate as a stopover. Swimming pool very welcome.

Mars Otel was the 6th place we stayed in Turkey. We're not fussy, and are always at the budget end. This place is recommended in a lot of guides and does well here. So I was utterly baffled at what happened to us.

We booked one night here as were flying out of Bodrum, Booked well in advance, handed over credit card details etc etc. Got a call from Mars Otel earlier in the day: "are you still coming?" "Yes see you later". Nice touch we thought.

Collected from the bus station - again nice touch. Bloke seemed a bit quiet. Drove us back to hotel. Hotel seemed fairly standard Budget fare, but with some rather dour blokes sitting round the pool. OK fine.

Then - and only then - did we get the news. "You have a problem. One of our guests' flights has been delayed so we have given them your room". We were then offered a room in the hotel owners' house. Hospitable you might say, but all a bit weird and slightly uncomfortable as we had to say we had paid for a double bed with a/c, not a bunk-up in the spare room. Finally, we ended up being shunted off to a lower quality pension on the other side of town, where we had to pay more.

So we had a room. So what's the problem?

1) If you make a reservation, you expect it to be honoured.
2) If there is a problem with the reservation, you expect early communication. I could have made alternative arrangements.
3) If someone else's flight is delayed, it's their problem not mine. Offer them your spare room.
4) If you are forcing me into a lower quality accommodation through no fault of my own at zero notice, you should at least make sure I pay the same, and to be honest if you value your reputation offer me some sort of refund.

Conclusion: I never even saw the room, but on the strength of my treatment recommend that you do not go to this place. I would never consider returning.
