The spa. Where to begin? We booked a day at the spa over the phone. We ordered four packages, three 3-hour spa packages for 350 US and one hammam + massage package for 150 US. We were told that included in our packages was the price of entrance to the spa (50US) where we could use all the hotel's facilities. Knowing that they had a beach, we showed up early wanting to use it. When we got to the spa, we were told that the only facilities we could use were the spa pool, hot tub, saunas, steam rooms and spa area facilities. That was okay, but we were definitely disappointed and basically set the tone for the rest of the day. Although, I have to say that our hammam experience was wonderful. However, the real problem came when we were told - while on the massage table - that we were getting 50 minute massages when at the time of booking, it was clear that we had booked 80 minute massages. We told the person on the phone that we wanted to build a package around 80 minute massage and he suggested the one we bought. Moreover, adding up the time of the services which we were given (50 minute hammam, 50 minute facial and 80 minute massage) equaled 3 hours exactly and we paid for a 3 hour package. Still on the massage table, we had to ask to see the manager who came in to tell us that if we didn't like it, we could leave. Apparently, the extra half-hour time slot in the 3 hour package was included for us to use the spa facilities and enjoy the quiet contemplative environment of the spa, yet when we went to go use them later, there were kids with snorkels and beach balls playing in the pool/hot tub area. After our treatments, we were also told that we had been misquoted for the price of our fourth spa package and that it is actually 100US more. Considering she had just had all the services, they told us that the only choice we had was to pay it! We wanted to address this, and the misleading package with the management afterwards because we felt like we had been ripped off and considering we paid a lot of money to be at a world class spa and five star resort, that didn't sit right with us. We were yelled at by the spa manager in front of other customers for even bringing this up, he accused us of trying to rip off the spa, and refused to listen to us. There was absolutely zero respect for us and for the sake of brevity, I will just say that we spent an extra hour at this place arguing with the spa manager, who was rude, disrespectful and completely inappropriate. It was so stressful and uncalled for - we weren't asking for anything other than acknowledgement and a show of consideration. We would have been satisfied with a free juice from their juice bar. However, his intention was to make us feel bad- that was clear when he declared that we would be partly refunded but only on the condition that it was taken out of his staff's pay checks. We were absolutely appalled by this and asked to speak to the hotel manager. Half an hour later, he brought out someone he told us was the manager. It was not the manager, but just a young friend of his who is in charge of maintenance. He thought he could trick us so our complaints would have no consequence for him. At the end of the day we paid half price, but we were angry and distraught, who cares. I've been to a lot of spas and never had a problem like this. You couldn't pay me to go back and be treated like that again. So much for a relaxing day at the spa!
