“Would go back, if they got rid of the entertainment staff!”

Myself and my friend stayed here in 2009 for a week all inclusive.
I was really happy to find it's a quick transfer from the airport, about 25 mins.
On our arrival we had the same problem as some other posters, as in we had a window, not a balcony as promised. We complained and were moved the next day to a beautfiul clean, well sized room with a really big balcony, the only downside was it looked out on other buildings and we didn't get a sea view.

The hotel was full when we were there, the first half of the week it was mostly english people, who were all good craic, but the second half of the week the place was full of locals who must have been on their holidays, and I would have to agree that they did seem to get preferrential treatment.

The steps were awkward for getting cases up and down, I don't know how a family would manage.

It was in easy walking distance to the town, about 15 minutes? The town itself was very reasonable for eating out in, although I thought my friend would murder someone if she continued to be pestered by the men who stood outside bars and shops calling her " my pretty" trying to get her into the shop.

In the local bars you need to keep in mind they will get you in promises you drinks at a certain price, which will be in tiny glasses and watered down, but if you are with someone like the girl I travelled with, and not afraid to argue and complain, you will be sorted in no time!

I liked the food in the hotel, we had alot of the soups, there were loads of salad options, not as many meat options, but we were pleased with it all. It's not irish food and for what we paid we were happy.

When we were there you could get wine, but in tiny glasses. The staff were a little unimpressed by us bringing out large plastic beakers that we had bought for our rooms with us, when asking them to fill them, but again said friend reminded them that nothing in the terms and conditions stated how many ml's you could have in your drink!

The entertainment was annoying. After a few days in the evening we would sit at the upstairs balcony so the ginger turkish entertainment host would leave us alone and stop trying to involve us. The pool is gorgeous but the music during the day can be loud and annoying.

Bitez is about 10 mins walk away and the bars down there will pay for a car to collect you if you make a booking.

I would go back, but I havent seen it advertised in any local deals departing from Belfast recently.

I found the front desk staff very helpful, and the place very clean. I didn't see any rats or flys or other animals whilst i was there, but it was a couple of years ago now!

The turkish spa was brilliant, reasonably priced, and unlike other places we have stayed, the staff didn't try and touch you up!!

“Never again!”

I was really disappointed with this hotel.
It looks great on their website but nothing is what it seems to be.
The rooms were small, with no balcony and although we paid for seaview we had only one small window with three big trees in front of it...we couldn't see a thing!
The room was very dirty, dust everywhere, old furnishings and awkward smell.
The hotel is seated on a hill so we had to climb around 70 stairs to get to the pool and to the dining area.
The food was typically turkish I guess, nothing special. Poor on options. The special turkish evening was a disaster, they offered us a spam kebab (spam - canned meat).
The entertainment was annoying and noisy.

The hotel has no beach, you could only take a free shuttle that took you to another bay. The timetable for the shuttle was set in a manner that you lost the lunch hours so we had to either take a cab back or have our lunch there at the beach.

We will never return!

Room Tip: Rooms near the pool and restaurant are better

“Honest review”

I have just got back from a ten night stay at The Grand Newport Hotel. We went as a small family with our two year old daughter.

After reading the reviews for hours before booking I was aware that there were steps to deal with from the beach to the pool area but we decided to risk it as we thought we would spend most of our time by the pool. The steps first became an issue before we'd even checked in! There are steps everywhere from the front of the hotel, down a spiral staircase to the pool/eating area, down to the room and then down to the beach. It was impossible to go anywhere with a pushchair alone as it needed two people to even get into the canteen...oops sorry I mean restaurant! I will keep it simple, if you have children or are in a wheelchair then think twice about this hotel! Its a nightmare! It was an effort to get to any part of the hotel.

The lobby is very grand and first impressions were great but it ended there. The first room we were put in stank of a serious drain problem and was very small and didnt have a balcony or seaview. We asked to upgrade for a fee and after waiting a couple of days in the room from hell we were moved to a slightly better room, luckily at the top of the stairs. The rooms were basic, dark and pokey (although we found out on our last day after some very kind people let us use their room to have a shower before our flight) that there are bigger rooms with bathrooms twice the size of the one we had. Our sheets were changed nearly every day as were the towels which was good. The beds were so hard that my hips hurt when I woke up every day.

The food. It was all served in the canteen, whoops I made that mistake again, I mean restaurant. It is a canteen and had more flies in it than diners! They were everywhere, on the food, on the plates, on the cups, saucers, knives forks and on you as you sat eating your food. It was awful. The food itself was basic and I'm not picky. I did find something to eat everyday but it was mainly lettuce, feta cheese and bread three times a day. I read on here before I went about the cremated fish and yes it is cremated! The only good meal we had there was when the pool bar had a kebab night! It was very poor.
The meal times were set and there was no food available between these times. It was breakfast, lunch and dinner and burger and chips for an hour and the snack bar with some cubes of dried cake. I always stay in all inclusive hotels and this was the worst by far!
The food that was left on the tables outside was not cleaned up and there were stray cats and pigeons eating off the tables. There was a rat loose by the sun loungers that a member of staff tried to catch wth a dustpan and brush, obviously it got away! Disgusting!

The staff: overworked, miserable and rude. If you went up to get a drink at the bar you would have to ring a bell and disturb the staff members smoking in the back! The all inclusive drinks consisted of beer, vodka and rum and everything else was a chargable extra. The staff didn't even know what schnapps was.

The hotel itself is out the way and you need a dolmus ot taxi to get to Gumbet or Bodrum. It was 30 Lira to Bodrum and 10 lira to Gumbet in a taxi. With a buggy we mainly went in a taxi but it was too far to walk which was a real shame.

The hotel does not cater for kids, it has one tiny baby pool and that is it! The beach area is a decked platform with a few beanbags on it and is unsafe for children and the trek down and back up the near verticle slope was enough to put you off going a second time. The hotel does put on a transfer bus to a nearby beach but we didnt go so I can't comment on that.

The whole hotel stank of drains and I'm sure they enployed someone to walk round the hotel all day with airfreshener!

The entertainment consited of one "DJ" who played Dr Dre and Eminem all day with a few Beatles songs mixed in. The language in these songs was foul and even I was shocked at the choice of music and with young kids there it was disgusting!! The first day the music was blasted out that we were shouting to hear each other but it did seem to calm down over the ten days.

The hotel mainly catered for the Turkish and they certainly got priority in every way.

Would I go back to The Grand Newport Hotel. No I certainly would not and I would recommend you continue your holiday search and avoid this hotel unless of course you are a Dr Dre loving step areobic fan who loves the smell of drains and eats only bread and salad on a daily basis!

I go on holiday to enjoy myself and I don't expect too much but this really was poor. The hotel itself has quite a lot of potential but I feel poor management and overworked staff have led this hotel to become more of a 2* not the 4/5* it claims to be.

The views were the only good thing this hotel had going for it!

The Grand newport is a beautiful hotel in nice setting with fantastic views out to sea and the bay of Bodrum. The hotel is very clean and rooms spacious, but if you want a balcony(as not all rooms have one) ensure you request this when booking & ask for a sea view too as we had neither to begin but did get a room change after 2 days but if I had known previously would have made this request at booking, you definatley need a balcony when the weather and veiws are so beautiful. The food was a real let down, no ice cream for children or at meal times and limited choices of main meals and food was never piping hot, just warm for an all inc hotel (not even a good choice at the salad bar) Also free drinks stop at 11.00pm so beware and stock up before hand if you need to and ensure you ask that they have the local spirit you want and its included in the all inc deal as some such are whiskey are not beacause they dont have a local brand?) If you are holidaying with babaies or young families this is not the hotel for you - pool is on level 4, along with the restaurant and bar area, reception is level 5 with all the rooms being on levels 1 - 3 and NO lifts only 137 steep steps from level 1 to the pool and then more to reception(which is the only way out) which if you have young children, prams etc is a nightmare & you can not manage alone with a child and pram or if you have any difficulty walking!! There was no entertainment within the hotel itself just a resident DJ playing music by the pool all day. there are no bars or restaurants close by & The nearest beach is a free shuttle bus away but this is lovely (try Manuellas beach bar, excellent food and drinks and not expensive) The local bus service is excellent into gumbet or Bodrum and at 275 lira is a bargain and picks and drops off at hotel. All in all this is not a 4 star hotel possibly a 3* but was good value for money accomodation wise and as is not expensive too eat out & about we made the most of the beautiful weather and surroundings.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on level 3 with a sea view and balcony - its a must!
