“Lovely Staff but terrible food!!”

We arrived at the hotel on the 23nd of July at about 3 in the morning with my two friends. The Receptionist was friendly and welcomed us to the hotel. But we soon had problems with our room. Our fridge wasn't working nor was the air conditioning. We informed reception and was told that there was no problem even though the problem was clearly evident. The next day we discovered that mould had appeared on the wall of the bathroom wall as the bathroom had no sort of ventilation. We called our rep and our room was changed. Our new room had working air conditioning, a cold fridge, ventilation and NO MOULD and !! Sweet! We also had a nice balcony view.

Now on to the good parts!! Hotel staff were so lovely and very helpful. My favourite staff members were Elif, Filiz, Abidin, Albert, Diyar. They need a pay rise!!

The food... not gonna sugar coat this. Food was disappointing. No variation what's so ever and the quality of the food was mediocre. The best thing was the chocolate cake.. Breakfast usually consists a boiled egg, cubes of cheese, a slice of meat thing!! If we were lucky we got scrambled egg!

I have to say the entertainer at the hotel Emre was one of the highlights of the hotel. He is the best!!! He's so funny and really nice and did a really good job of keeping everyone at the hotel entertained. From karaoke to bingo to bar crawls in Gumbet centre! I would highly recommend trips to Gumbet town centre. It has a buzzing nightlife with plenty to do! The hotel is it isn't far from Gumbet town centre. We took buses to the town centre which cost 2.75TL.

On a final note, the alcohol. Before I left I had visions of myself drinking cocktails at 11o'clock in the morning sitting by the pool ( 11o'clock I hear you say, its ok to do things like that when your on holiday hehe). But my visions did not turn into reality. The all inclusive alcohol selection was somewhat lacking. All it consists of is gin, vodka, brandy, beer and white and red wine no cocktails!

Overall I spent two amazing weeks in Gumbet. The staff were fabulous, we had a nice sea view room and good location. Note to Mr Newport improve the food and I would have rated it higher! Hope this review was helpful!

“Great holiday in hotel with a view”

Had a lovely week at the Grand Newport with our 5 year old grandson. Was a fantastic setting up on the hillside, with fantastic views, plus a nice sea breeze to take the edge odd the heat. Got a room right on the lowest level, at the bottom of the 107 steps (not easy for little legs to go up & down!) no view, no balcony but managed to upgrade to a sea view room with balcony on the 3rd day - much better. Reception staff were so helpful, nothing was too much trouble. In fact all the staff were. Food was the best we have had on any of our Turkey holidays - an excellent variety, especially the salads. Desserts were the same most days but tasty. It was typical Turkish food, but if you fancied chips they were available in the afternoon. Some ice cream would have been nice though, the little shop next door seemed to do a good trade in that & crisps!
The pool was lovely, plenty of sun beds and very few towels on them! Too hot to want to use the indoor pool. Didn't use the gym equipment either, but it was there if you wanted. Billiards, darts and table tennis too. Entertainment was aimed at the adults, not our cup of tea, but plenty of places to get away from it if you wanted. The 'beach' was down a steep hill and was a series of platforms with sun beds cushions and parasols jutting out into the sea. Perfect for some, but not for small children. However the beach at Bitez was only a 10 minute walk down the hill the other side.
Gumbet is a 10 min bus ride away - frequent dolmus pass by the hotel door and also go on to Bodrum; very convenient.
Our only grumble was the house keeping let things down a bit. Our balcony was dirty, obviously not been swept for a while, nor had the area outside the rooms. The actual bedrooms were clean on arrival, but did not get cleaned daily, or the beds made, as we have experienced elsewhere. The public areas were spotless, these seemed to be cleaned by a team of young men, who were forever sweeping, polishing and wiping.
Overall though we enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back, ensuring we had a sea view.

Room Tip: Request a sea view. The higher you are, the better the view and the less steps to negotiate

“Beautiful hotel with lovely staff who couldnt do enough for you!”

This hotel was beautiful, it was alot nicer than I thought it was gunna be. The pictures advertise it well but arriving at Grand Newport and seeing it for real, it was so much better! The staff were brilliant, even though some were not fluent in English they still made an effort, any problems you had it was resolved straight away! The rooms were also gorgeous and clean, with a lovely bathroom. The cleaners came in and did our room almost everyday. The pool area was just as good, a great size pool which was clean with plenty of sunbeds throughout the whole day! The food was splendid also, with a variety to choose from, with something different each day. These included a mixture of Turkish and English foods. There was also a snack bar that serves food between meals (burgers, chips, cakes, cookies, coffee etc) Drinks were also served throughout the day. There was also an indoor pool, a games room, a doctor and a photographer in the hotel. I was very impressed with this hotel and would definitely stop again!

“Lovely hotel but food terrible!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2011

Stayed here with in first week in July. I always write an honest report as I do read the reviews before I book a hotel. I had emailed them beforehand and asked for a room with a balcony near the pool as I had read about the dreaded steps - and these have not been exaggerated! This hotel is not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties as there are steps everywhere and no lifts. Luckily we were given a room on the first level down from the pool - rooms 323 and 324. Both had fantastic views over Gumbet Bay - my daughters room though had a terrible smell of drains all through the week - but ours was fine - weird!
The rooms were fine but quite dark but the aircon worked fine and the bathrooms were ok - small shower cubicles though for anyone of a larger size! Cleaner came every day apart from one and we had clean towels every day apart from one. A pair of my shoes went missing from the room but I think this is as they were near the bin and could have been mistaken for being rubbish:(
I have stayed in many all inclusives in many countries but I can honestly say this is the worst I have stayed in for the food. I always book all inclusive with a view to eating out some nights because there is usually not a lot of difference between the prices for half board and all inc. There was always salad but throughout the week but there was never any kind of potatoes - although there was chips at the snack bar between 3pm and 4pm. There was only ever one hot meat dish and one soup and there was a variety of desserts. Very disappointing - even the salads were not anything to write home about - we ate out every night. I am not normally a complainer and do love to try traditional dishes but there were not even a lot of these either !The drinks were good though and the beer was tuborg so this made up for the food. The hotel catered mainly for turkish - and there were a lot of turkish and belgian guests so this may explain the poor quality of the food. I think you would struggle if you had kids - there wasnt even any ice cream and not even a fridge where you ould buy them - although there was a little supermarket to the left outside the hotel.
The pool area was sufficient but you had to be up early to get a sunbed - the hotel got all new sunbeds while we were there so there were more than when we arrived but still some people were looking for beds later in the afternoon - due to the same old problem of people reserving these and not sitting on them all day - very annoying!
Gumbet itself was lovely and the weather was scorching all week - some days with a lovely breeze. The hotel was out of the centre up the hill and cost 10 lira in a taxi or 2.75 each on the dolmus into the centre. It took about 15 minutes to walk.
I wouldn't go back to this hotel and wouldnt recommend it as there were lots of nicer ones nearer the centre of town but we did have a fantastic holiday and always make the best of our time away. The hotel didnt spoil the holiday but I do wish I had chosen a different one - never mind - always next year!!!!!

Room Tip: email hotel before and ask for one with a balcony and near the pool area

I arrived very early in the morning around 0130am the receptionist was very pleasant led me to my room.
Next day the view from room was just heaven. over looking the Gumbet bay it was sostranquil
The room had 2 beds which could be joined together .
The room was clean and just perfect and with small balcony
the rooms are located on different levels with various level of view Better to get the huighest room so you get the best way
of even go for the Deluxe room.
The restaurants was very nice with breakfast
fresh juices and tea and coffee etc the choices was perfect for me
infact way to much choice .
The dinner was great with choice of cooked meats Chicken fished and Turkish dish
infact there was always too much choice excellent salads
the hotel has a lovely Gym just enough if you want to work out We used the Gym everyday .
The swimming was great many people used
I prefer the natural water in the bay

You can walk for about 5 minutes down a steep hill. there yoou have your own private beach area.
There is no beach as such but wooden platform with umbrellas and bean bags .. like to relax on and cold water and orange drink
But swim at your own risk no life guard.

We found this in very relaing and swam daily tin teh bay for long time the water was amazing and clean

Over all i had the most amazing tranquil holiday i woould highly recommend this hotel

The staff were just right and the Manager very chamring

in all A perfect vacation I cant wait to go back again

maybe worth hiring a car for a day or so to go to other places.
You can walk to the Gumbet bars in fact one day we walked all the way to Bodrum which is a long way .
you can catch a cheap bus or taxi

The bars are loud and brash and food is very expensive if you want a relaxing holiday go off season maybe June and September are the best
the weather was perfect in June
