“Calm, relaxed, good-humoured vibe”

I believe this hotel is currently closed for refurbishment, but I really enjoyed my stay last August and would definitely go for a return visit. I was initially put off by its Gumbet road address, but it’s between Bodrum and Gumbet, and not at all tacky. The crowd were fairly international – lots of Dutch, and surprisingly, lots of Turks. I take that as an endorsement of how good it is, that the locals holiday there.

The only people moaning about everything were, of course, the Brits – when I stayed there, there were a truckload of Welsh people (my countrymen) whingeing about not getting a sea view and making the Thomas Cook rep, Debbie, run around for them. I came to think of her as Downtrodden Debbie. What is it about British people and sea views? I think it’s because as a nation, we like to sit holed up in our hotel rooms, or on our balcony and not get out by the pool or ocean with everyone else. If we have a sea view we don’t have to go out. I was initially disappointed at not getting a sea view myself, but soon realised that the quietest rooms were at the back of the hotel, and you only get slit windows anyway. The hotel staff are delightfully stubborn about changing rooms for you anyway, so my advice is don’t bother – just go with what you’re given. The standard of the rooms is high, and you spend most of your time by the pool, the sea, by the bar, in the restaurant or on trips.

I loved the fact that the Turks were celebrating the end of Ramadan while I was there. The hotel provided extra Turkish drinks and food. Of course, the Brits moaned about it, and complained about the Turkish music in the bar. Sigh. The only Turkish habit I’d complain about is the incessant smoking – I was passively smoking by the sea every day, despite my best efforts to move out of the way. Everyone’s at it!

I loved the fact that there was a water taxi right next to the hotel that takes you into Bodrum marina. I love boat trips generally so it suited me perfectly. Plus I organised a cruise via the holiday rep – I tried doing it through the reception staff but they didn’t know what I meant by ‘trip’ – they thought I meant crisps! My advice is, book trips with your rep at the welcome meeting (this is so not what I would normally do on a holiday!) I went to Ephesus for the day, and the best bit was the coffee stop by Lake Bafa first thing in the morning and again in the evening. Beautiful.

Being all-inclusive, the hotel is swimming with abundant food and drink – I loved the breakfast omelettes in particular. Solo travellers are best going to the self-service buffet restaurant as you don’t have to sit waiting for your food while everyone stares, wondering why you’re a woman alone. The snack-bar service is slow but the food is good. I loved sitting next to the sea-side bar, being entertained by the cocktail waiters doing their Tom Cruise thing. Really good vibe down there, despite the constant Turkish music. They definitely need to think about getting some Gaga on. Or something.

Bodrum is never going to be a quiet island experience, but I really enjoyed it and would go back. I’d stay at the Voyage again for sure. The way they looked after a Welsh lady who fell and fractured her shoulder by the pool was laudable and I thought the hotel masseur was incredible. Stop moaning, Brits and enjoy it.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back without views are quieter - sea-view rooms are over the bar so they'll be nois...

“Great value holiday, good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

We stayed at Voyage Bodrum in May and had a fabulous break with good weather. It can get a little hot from July onwards so May is the perfect time to go. The hotel has everything you need for a relaxing break and the food was excellent for an all-inclusive. My only complaint about the food is that you had to get there early to get BBQ meat and fish - they tended to run out quite quickly. There was a huge variety of food though so no one went go hungry. The salads were particularly good. Breakfast was the best meal of the day, so many fresh breads and eggs cooked to order, and there was only one hour per day when you couldn't get any food - there is a patisserie during the day, a midnight buffet and you can even get sandwiches in the early hours from the lobby bar.

Our room was quite small but was very clean and had all we needed. The shower was slightly disappointing - there was not much presssure. The sunloungers by the pool were all taken by 10am but there were always plenty available on the beach. The beach itself was tiny and there were rocks at the edge of the sea so it wasn't the best beach experience but we didn't expect much for the price that we paid.

You can get a boat to Bodrum from the jetty, which runs frequently and is very cheap, and Bodrum town centre is lovely - lots of shops and restaurants. The harbour is very pretty and there is a castle.

The best thing about this hotel is the branded spirits. I have never been to an all-inclusive where they have proper spirits rather than local and all included in the price. The worst thing was the noise from Bodrum Bay - due to the location in a cove, the music from the clubs in Bodrum carries over to the Voyage so some nights we had trouble sleeping until the early hours. The hotel entertainment wasn't great but we are not really into that kind of thing anyway and spent most evenings at the pool bar playing pool and talking to the fantastic bartender.

I would recommend this hotel for a couples break but it isn't great for younger people in groups as there isn't much going on in the evenings and the clientele tend to be middle-aged and older. You can always get the boat or a taxi to Bodrum though, plenty of bars and clubs. For the price, it was perfect and just what we needed. We would go back if we were looking for a cheap week away.

Room Tip: Try to get a room at the front of the hotel rather than overlooking the beach. It should be less no...

“A Birthday Treat”

We have just got back from our 2 week holiday at this hotel, on arriving it was in some of the worst rain I have ever seen, the water was really deep and that was running down hill... on arriving at our hotel at 1.30am in the morning we were told that due to the weather there was no electricty in any of the rooms, when they finally showed us to our room it was indeed in darkness and the floor was water logged, and as they have carpet on the floors this wasn't a good start, our room spelt mouldy yuk, but hey thought we would see what it was like in the morning, we went back to the reception and had a drink or 3 at the 24 hour bar which was good as they serve top branded names not locally produced stuff, and their measures or lack of was very large to say the least.

in the morning we discovered that not only did we not have a balancy which we asked for but the only view we had on opening our door was the door opposite, and the window we had was nt much point having one, even though our bed and towels were changed daily, our room needed cleaning really bad, there was thick dirt /dust on the bed head and the top of the mirror, which we cleaned ourselves the first day there, and the carpets had crumbs all over and was still like that the day we left yuk, the safe didnt work and they replace it was a really old one in the end that had a massive key you had to carry with you so a bit of a pain, so went to the reception and asked to be moved to a different room, and guess what, they never moved us said that they were fully booked yet it was the last 2 weeks of the season and not that many people there, they were even laying of staff as more staff then guests, so not happy, the rep was useless so gave up trying to talk to her, all she did was eat and moan

thats the bad bits the good bits is that in general this hotel is lovely, the staff are great, and food is fantastic, I'm a fussy eater and i have nothing to complain about here, in fact I gained weight whilst here, we went to Kos on my birthday and that was fantastic what a lovely little island that is and the people were really friendly there as well, we also went to Epheous sorry dont know how to spell that, but that was wonderful, and Bodrum in itself is such a lovely place breathe taking view. the weather after the second day was great 24 - 29 degrees most days, had more rain the following week but didnt spoil our holiday.

one point though is that this isnt a place to stay if you have walking difficulties as very steep hills and I mean steep, and coaches tend to pick you up on the main road so means you have to climb the hill in order to wait for them to arrive. We got the taxi boat into Bodrum centre and got the bus back most days and was really easy and fairly cheap, a most is to visit Bodrum castle, this is huge and well worth it.

On the whole we enjoyed it in Bodrum and if asked would I go back yes probably, but I do much prefer Marmaris when we go back to Turkey it will be to a different location I think though.

Room Tip: if you book this hotel make sure at the time of booking that you ask for a sea view and balancy if y...

“Wonderful position on the bay -”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

It is difficult to review this hotel because they are starting to refurbish it and I would think that most of the things that we felt were not up to standard will be brand new next year. The hotel is in a wonderful position on the edge of the bay - there is a man made beach and steps down into the sea from there. It is a confusing hotel to find your way around and a lot of the rooms with balconies are on the back of the hotel which is only sunny for a short time in the late afternoon and these rooms do not have a very good view as there is a large hill behind the hotel. A lot of the rooms on the front of the hotel do not have balconies but have windows with a lovely view of the bay and these are light and sunny however there appeared to be some rooms in the middle of the hotel which would not have got a lot of sunlight - I would suggest that it is important for you to find out more details of your room before you book this hotel. The rooms were clean but were very tired looking and the bathrooms needed upgrading - it might be that they are all done over the winter of 2011/2012 but it is worth finding out.
The staff were all friendly and helpful - some of the bar and pool staff did not speak very much English but were fine if you kept it simple. The food was varied and we always found something that suited us - not a lot of meat but always some chicken or a "kind of stew" with beef or lamb - lots of fresh salads and some cooked veg - lovely bread - the beach bar was good for lunch and the staff there were a lot of fun. There is a wicked patisere by the pool every day with at least 20 different cakes and pastries to chose from as well as ice cream.

This is a quiet hotel (no kids) and there is not much going on in the evening - we spoke to a young couple who had found it boring which I can understand. There is a little boat which will take you to Bodrun centre for 5 lira during the day and this runs about every 10 to 15 mins. Bodrun is a nice place to wander about - to do a bit of tourist shopping or just watch the world go by. The castle is worth a visit and the views from the top are lovely. We went with Thomsons all inclusive which was good - we went on their whole day tour to Ephesus (£45 each) which was generally good and was through some attractive countryside - we would have preferred not to start so early 6.45am and to have had a bit longer at Ephesus and not spend time on the way back calling at ceramic centre and Turkish Delight shop.
