“Hmm.. really unsure about this place..”
I have just got back from a one week stay at the Ayhan and I can say that a week was long enough. I'm not a snob.. I'm far from being one and after reading some positive reviews on here (even though there was some bad ones) I was positive in what to expect from the hotel and I really wasn't expecting much at all which didn't bother me as I didn't pay much.
On arrival we got a warm welcome from the small children working there which was really nice after a long flight and we felt really welcome. It started slowly going downhill from there. We got into the room which looked fine, simple and clean - just what we were looking for till we went to the bathroom. The toilet chain was broken and came completely out of place leaving us holding the chain! We had to have it temporarily fixed for it then to break again a few days later. Another down side to the bathroom was that the shower hardly worked, it took so long to get a shower due to the lack of water being released out of the shower head.
Even with these negatives on the first night I was still positive as it is just a two star hotel and as I was told not to expect much I was willing to carry on giving it a go.
We met another couple on our first day and they both had positive things to say so I started feeling a lot better about the place. The pool was clean and not too small and we pretty much had it to ourselves which was nice and it was quiet around that area. The hotel was lovely and quiet through the day but on a night after 12 o'clock the noise was shocking. We was in a room opposite where the sun lounger area is and the noise from the music from the reception was making the bed shake! The reason because of the noise is that the owner was receiving a lot of money from a group of teenage boys buying drinks and paying him to play the very load music having no consideration for his other guests. I think as long as the owner is getting money he doesn't care what happens as people who have write previous reveiws are right he is a money grabber. The owner at the hotel tried scamming one of the couples (by asking them for 50 lira for a ''tab'' they never set up with the owner) we got talking to and humiliated them infront of everyone in the reception which I think is horrible for them to have to come back to that hotel and see those people they were humilated infront of..
He seemed to pick his favourite guests (the one giving him the most money) and only seemed to bother with them, completely ignoring the rest of the guests which I think is ridiculous. The owner is a selfish, greedy, money grabber. Some of the people who lived there (his family) were very inconsiderate towards the guests. We felt as if we couldn't do what we wanted to while we were there especially in the pool. If we were in the pool and one of them got into it, it was like they would do there best to drive us out of it. yes, fair enough it is there home, I know but they should respect the fact that people are going there for a holiday as we respected it as their home.
The hotel and most of the staff are nice it is just a shame about the owner and some of the people he had living there.
Gumbet is an amazing place to go and I will definitely be visiting again, it is a shame I can't say the same for the Ayhan.
You will find better places to stay in Gumbet. The Ayhan is a cheap place to stay but the owner will make it more expensive for you!
