I chose the Toloman after reading all the good reviews on TA. The location couldnt have been better, literally one minute from the beach, although it was a small beach. The swimming pool was located at the back of the hotel and was a little haven of peace and tranquility surrounded by trees. Our room was quite basic with a tiny balcony overlooking the garden, the bathroom was very small but was fine for a week. Breakfast was a little disappointing, the orange juice tasted like orange squash and the only fruit on offer was melon. There was plenty of lovely fresh bread, cheese, salami type meat and hard boiled eggs but I would have liked more fruit and cereal. On our first morning we overslept and missed breakfast by just 10 minutes. When I asked if we were too late I was told that it had all been cleared away. It wouldnt have hurt them to rustle us up something small, even if it was only tea and toast. So we went to the restuarant next door for a full English breakfast which cost us 15 lira each and wasnt very nice. We didnt personally experience the 'fantastic friendliness of the staff' during our stay - I think that is reserved for the regulars who go back year after year. Bitez is a small quiet resort and perfect for a relaxing holiday. If you like something livelier and more cosmopolitan then Bodrum is only a 15 minute bus ride away, we caught the dolmus most evenings, 3 lira each. Our favorite restaurant in Bitez was the Pagoda which was just behind the main drag of bars and restaurants and very reasonably priced. We would go back to Bitez but would prefer to stay in an apartment - then I could have what I liked for breakfast!
