“Great hotel, great location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2011

We stayed at the Istankoy the first week of August and were very impressed, especially considering that it is only classed as a 2star. Rooms (ours was 216) although basic, was clean and the double bed comfortable. Also had a tv, fridge and air-conditioning (extra but worth it). The shower was good but did leak badly!!!
The staff were very friendly - a special hello to Eddi !! Although we went in high season there was always sun beds available on the little roof terraces above each block if you didnt want to sit around the pool. We liked the way there were loungers around the pool in the day time and in the evening tables, chairs and big soft squishy cushions were put out instead. The hotel and the grounds were always spotlessly clean. We ate out and in the hotel and would really recommend the food in the hotel. The breakfasts were basic but the menu for daytime and evening were vast and the food excellent and reasonable. We recommend you take the hotel boat trip. It was a great day out and the crew were really friendly. The only one minor criticism was that the music round the pool area and on the boat could sometimes be a little loud !The hotel is excellently placed close to the beach, shops, harbour and castle. We really loved Bodrum with its mix of old and new and would recommend both the hotel and the location to anyone.

Room Tip: If I could choose a room I would ask for a top floor as they were larger and opened onto the roof te...

“Almost a Holiday”

First let me say...."DONT GO THERE!!!...Food poor....service poor.....Dont get a downstairs room....We had a view of a transit van tyre for the whole week..very disapointing holiday, and we are not fusspots, and we dont spend our holiday picking holes in every holiday we have been on. But this was really the limit. As for the resort itself, i would reccomend. just try a different Hotel. This was a "just" holiday hotel. Believe me...it was never just, it was "almost" a Holiday.

“Don't stay if you are gay, this hotel is so not gay friendly”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011

We have just returned from a two week holiday staying at this hotel and frankly not only would I call it a non gay friendly hotel but its lack of service from the staff especially the bar man who enjoys spending all his time performing stupid dance routines instead of serving drinks. I am in the hotel industry and frankly I would be ashamed to work here, I dont understand why everyone is raving about the place. The standard of the rooms are at best a step up from a hostel although I will say the maid service was excellent, fresh towells everyday. From the moment we checked in and we had booked a double bedded room we have had the disapproving look from staff and guests alike. In this day and age they must realize that we are everywhere and have money to spend however they missed a trick by not providing us with the service I would expect from a holiday hotel. We tried the restaurant a couple of times but if you ordered drinks we were either not brought them at all or it took 20 minutes to get a drink. The staff frankly are too interested in chatting up the english girls at the bar rather than serving. With the sun beds being so close to the bar no waiter service was provided around the pool which I found astounding. If you wanted a drink you would have to help yourself from the fridges in reception area then wait until the bar man could be bothered to take your money. The food was not bad in the restaurant and the chef works hard trying to cater for everyone. The breakfast was a typical Turkish selection however i would recommend they provide cereals and some fresh fruit for people who dont like salami cheese tomatoes and cucumber for breakfast. I have stayed in Turkey many times and this was the most disappointing of stays as the hotel was so bad. If you want a cheap deal in a cheap hotel and are not bothered about standards of service then this is your place to stay. If you want more for your hard earned money then please choose another hotel or resort, I would recommend Turgetries as a resort more friendly definately. Thomas Cook need to vet their hotels better for next year.

“Istankoy OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

Me, my wife and daughter stayed here for 14 days in August. We holiday every year in Turkey and were attracted by the Trip Advisor reviews. Without wishing to disagree with any reviewer we thought that unless you are easily pleased the hotel was worth what we paid and no more. We had an excellent stay here and really enjoyed our selves but the hotel to us was no more than somewhere to sleep and to relax in during the day.
The best aspect of the hotel, other than its excellent staff is its position, which when first arriving at about 5am in the morning made me initially think I had come to down town Bierut. However in the light of day we appreciated its position close to shops, restaurants and bars. A 2 to 3 miniute walk through alleys brought you to the sea front and all that it had to offer.
About the hotel its self, well we had a ground floor 3 bedded room and it was extremely tight with no room what so ever for privacy. The room had a TV, mini fridge and air con (extra charge £20 per week), but being on the ground floor there was no where to hang out towels etc, so this was a huge drawback. The bathroom was again small, but in line with other hotels of this class. The cleaners came in daily to clean the room, but I have to say that the quality of cleaning was not the best, the bathroom floor always looked dirty. However we did notice that the cleaners worked very long hours. We also went over a week before a bedding change which was the only one we had. Towels were very good and were changed very requently.
Breakfast was the typical Turkish breakfast so not much to say about that, although you could pay for extras and even a full English breakfast for those who miss them. We ate several times at the hotel, the menu is quite extensive and although we have had better the quality was very good and the price very reasonable.
Bar prices were on a par with many other places in Bodrum, large beer 6ytl, and the bar staff were very good, particularly Hamed. We attended the Turkish night which cost 25ytl and was good value and very enjoyable, although one Turkish night is like any other. The hotel also had several other themed evenings, but we tended to go out every evening so did not attend any.
The swimming pool is small but a nice place to cool down in during the heat of the day and was kept clean throughout the day. Sun beds are quickly reserved so if a late riser you may struggle to find one. However there is a terrace above the bar with sun beds and very few people went up here so we sun bathed here every day.
The hotel has 2 boats which do trips daily. The cost of a day trip on the boats is 30ytl and represented excellent value. We went on 2 trips and thoroughly enjoyed them, the chicken and pasta lunch is amazing and requires a hearty apetite to finish it. I said at the beginning of this review that the staff is one of its best aspects. I cannot fault any of them and in particular would single out Edi, who was always cheerfull and tireless in his duties. Any request was quickly and cheerfully dealt with.
So would I come here again........... maybe. We have our main holiday at Easter but it met our requirements of somewhere cheap and cheerful for 2 weeks in the sun. But if you are after a little luxury then it is not for you.

“great location, ok for the money”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

Just come back from a weeks stay. Not sure we were at the same place as other reviewers as our exeperience was not the same as theirs. One of the main reasons for booking this hotel was the other reviews so we were a bit disappointed.
I know it was only 2 star but...
Our room 606 was above the kitchen and fairly noisy at certain times of the day, the 'balcony' was minute and filthy- never cleaned and overlooked a pile of rubbish, shopping trolleys and general mess at the back of the hotel and a lonley gsd dog, tied up most of the time. The door to the balcony was frosted out so we had no window. We only went out there to hang our towels out. The loo seat was loose and never fixed, large amount of mould on bathroom ceiling, floor flooded evrytime you used the shower, AC is pretty rubbish, just about worked, though cheap.
Plus side we did get a kettle, hairdryer, also got extra pillows and a top sheet when asked.
Dble bed was very comfortable and the room was cleaned ok.

We considered moving but at our welcome meeting after hearing ALL the other couples complaining about their rooms and wanting to change some being near the noisy bar or very small and ALL wanting new rooms we decided not to move and make the best of it as our room was quite a good size and we didnt hear the bar most of the time.
Although well away from the bar we were woken one night at 4.30am by noisy people at the bar.

We didnt hang round the pool during the day as the sunbeds are very close togther and theres is little shade and its very very hot. We preferred the beach which is an easy stroll and offers a lot more.

At the beach
sunbeds are free, but you are expected to buy drinks there which was fine.
Pick your spot, certain parts of the beach are very crowded, we found a quieter bit with no problem. Try Deephouse as it has a shower to rinse sea water off and free towels, very chilled. (To the right once you are at the front)

You are so close to the beach and centre, its beautiful, and to have a meal overlooking the bay, why would you stay in the hotel with no view or breeze?
Best place to eat- we found on last day The Garden, on the main bit turn right, We had a table right on the beach very romantic and far better than any other meal we had.

Nightlife
is ok if you are 20ish, gets a bit tedious after a few days all bars playing same musaac. Could do with more variation. The only live music is turkish folk (very depressing).
Whitehouse has good cocktails.

There is a starbucks- VG AC if you need to cool off, burger king and a 24hr macdonalds. What can I say, its a resort that never shuts.

Overall we enjoyed our holiday, wouldnt stay at this hotel again though.

Room Tip: Air con, £20pwk . Safe costs £7 and are located in reception. Iate checkout 10pm £20
