We arrived into Ankara late at night without a place to stay (our first mistake) and decided with the help of the Lonely Planet on staying in Ulus, the older part of the city supposedly near more attractions (ie: the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, the one reason I one recommend going to Ankara to anyone). At any rate, after being knocked back due to no vacancies at one place, we turned here in need. Checked in painlessly, cheap as, and we were off...
Room was eh with a few missing fixtures and paint smears..not spotless but a good pressured shower and our tiredness made us forgive all.
The next morning we desperately needed washing done. They told us that due to Bayrahm holidays it would be hard to find an open laundry, but as we were down to practically nothing, we persisted. A porter with no English skills whatsoever took us just round the corner to a small shop, we dropped our two decent size bags for a total of roughly $20 fee and that was it, to be brought to us tomorrow before check out.
Flash to just before checkout, our laundry brought to our room as promised...however, it was returned STINKING of cigarette smoke! Neither my wife nor I smoke, and we know our clothes didn't stink before being submitted, so, in essence, they were returned DIRTIER than we when we handed them in! On top of that, my wife's recently purchased bikini (her only one with us on our long trip) was missing! The same porter kindly hunted it down after much arguing at the front desk. When he returned, I explained to both him AND THE OWNER that the state of our clothes was not acceptable. He told us there was nothing he could do and that we would have to accept the fact that we already paid the services. Nothing, no service what so ever...
So we left in a huff, foolishly without checking that EVERYTHING was there! Flash to hours later in Istanbul, and I discovered that a pair of my hand made linen pants (by my wife before we started our trip) was missing. Needless to say, we tried and tried and tried to contact the hotel and speak to the manager and/or owner but we were knocked back every time.
In the end, I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone, not even the bully from elementary school days. :(
