“Will stay again”

The hotel has been refurbished, I believe because our room was spotless and everything was in place. Service was very nice. We reached late at night but made the reservation by e-mail earlier. The reception had a nice man and an equally nice man took our luggage to our room after mid night. Next morning at 6:30 AM the same man was serving breakfast with a smile on his face. Strayed there for two nights. The location was good and we did not find the location unsafe at all even late at night. It is a great value hotel. Hot water was on time and was actually hot. Breakfast had coffee which is really unusual for Turkey at times. Wifi was fast and worked all the time in the room. We will stay here again if we go to Ankara.

Room Tip: Ask for a non-smoking room and you will get one.

“Good option in Ankara”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2010

It is a hotel which is a little bit run down. Our room was spartan. The wall missed some parts with paint. But... the shower was great and the bed was fantastic. Breakfast is not interesting but ok. WiFi is for free but the computer in the lobby is not. Ankara is a interesting city to visit for a few days. This hotel is a good location to start from.

“No frills business hotel was helpful and safe”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2009

Three nights with 4 twin beds for 2 adults and 3 children without air conditioning was fine. The mosque 100 m from bedroom window at 4:16am was a cultural experience. Hotel is close to Genclik Park and citadel, shopping and bus service. Near hospital district so heard many sirens.

“Horrible Experience...avoid”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2009

We arrived into Ankara late at night without a place to stay (our first mistake) and decided with the help of the Lonely Planet on staying in Ulus, the older part of the city supposedly near more attractions (ie: the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, the one reason I one recommend going to Ankara to anyone). At any rate, after being knocked back due to no vacancies at one place, we turned here in need. Checked in painlessly, cheap as, and we were off...

Room was eh with a few missing fixtures and paint smears..not spotless but a good pressured shower and our tiredness made us forgive all.

The next morning we desperately needed washing done. They told us that due to Bayrahm holidays it would be hard to find an open laundry, but as we were down to practically nothing, we persisted. A porter with no English skills whatsoever took us just round the corner to a small shop, we dropped our two decent size bags for a total of roughly $20 fee and that was it, to be brought to us tomorrow before check out.

Flash to just before checkout, our laundry brought to our room as promised...however, it was returned STINKING of cigarette smoke! Neither my wife nor I smoke, and we know our clothes didn't stink before being submitted, so, in essence, they were returned DIRTIER than we when we handed them in! On top of that, my wife's recently purchased bikini (her only one with us on our long trip) was missing! The same porter kindly hunted it down after much arguing at the front desk. When he returned, I explained to both him AND THE OWNER that the state of our clothes was not acceptable. He told us there was nothing he could do and that we would have to accept the fact that we already paid the services. Nothing, no service what so ever...

So we left in a huff, foolishly without checking that EVERYTHING was there! Flash to hours later in Istanbul, and I discovered that a pair of my hand made linen pants (by my wife before we started our trip) was missing. Needless to say, we tried and tried and tried to contact the hotel and speak to the manager and/or owner but we were knocked back every time.

In the end, I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone, not even the bully from elementary school days. :(

“Pleased with the Otel Mithat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2008

We stayed at the Otel Mithat ın Ankara for four nights ın order to obtain our visas to Iran. We found the location good - near the old part of Ankara and reasonably close to the new part - Sihhye and Kizilay.
On first impression we were a bit concerned wıth the area - ıt was off a street with tatty market stalls and near a bus hub. But we had arrived late at night and in daylight it was fıne and perfectly safe. The taxi rank outside was very useful and the drivers very friendly - most spoke a little English.
We were pleasantly surprised with the interior of the hotel - the rooms are a little sparse but spotlessly clean - especially the bathroom, whıch had a great (always hot) shower. The rooms had a TV (no English channels but some channels did show US shows with Tukish subtitles) and a phone and ours had a little balcony.
The breakfasts were a little mean - usual Turkish breakfast - but small and without the egg.
We found the staff super helpful - most spoke English - and very friendly. The hotel also offers a good internet connection which is however a little pricey.
All ın we had a very comfortable stay during the stressful time of obtaining our visas (we got them!). The rates were very reasonable: EUR33 per night for a double.

  • Liked — Value and cleanliness
  • Disliked — stingy breakfasts
