Ok Yeni means New in Turkish- but Yeni hotel is an old style 3*** turkish traditional hotel.
Hotel is located right in the busy old city center of Ulus. Ulus has a bad reputation, as you see real life here, the goods and the bads. I found it charming. Best of all- you are within walking distance to most of the sights. Metro 100 mtrs from hotel, supermarket right next to hotel, shops, marketplace and eateries right on the doorstep. Noisy area, remember ear plugs.
Rooms are on the dated side- just means that furniture are not the newest and colours from the 70´ties. Rooms are quite big, comfy beds, dated aircon, big bathroom, minbar, and sat.tv with news in many languages. And they all have WIFI!!!!
Breakfast could be improved- it consists of traditional turkish breakfast- bread, butter, jam, cheese, olives, honey, cucumber, tomatoes and cold cuts- nothing wrong there- but they use the same knife for meat and veggies- means that your cucumber and cheese tastes of meat. tes is served- and you have to order coffee (did not pay though)- but a simple thing as milk was not provided.
I was on a halfboard deal as I had to stay working at hotel a lot- paid EUR10 per day- quite a high price- and the food was not very good, and not homecooked.
Most staff at the Yeni are kind and hospittable- some are not. A few speak a little english, but again, a smile and respect will get you far. Old policies as no guests in room still extists here- meant it was hard to work with colleagues stopping by.
So, for the price I payed and the location plus the wifi I would certainly stay again. If you are at a stop over to see main sights of Ankara- which is a wonderful city by the way- The Yeni is a good choice. Just dont expect Radisson for EUR20 per night:-)
