“Good Home Base - Don't Expect Luxury”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2010

Staff is very friendly. Amenities include welcome drink, free breakfast, free in-room massage (did not do that), rooftop pool (did not use it). Rooms are typical Filipino...don't expect Western type furnishings. Room I was given had 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms...only needed 2 so they just locked the 3rd. Had a basic kitchen with fridg...good for keeping leftovers. Did not use their towels..brought my own. Since we were out most of the time, it was just really a place to crash. But all the posts about the road noise is true....horns start beeping around 4 am. Keep ear plugs handy. Not sure if the bus depot nearby causes this noise. Walking distance to malls so it was convenient. Location was safe enough..did not think it was seedy as described by another reviewer. If you want to be able to walk to the mall, definitely a good home base...no need to take a cab or jeepney.

“Amazing StaFF”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2010

I stayed there with my girlfriend and her brother last February and had an amazing time... The staff is the best staff hotel I ever met... The room was cleaned and spacious... We had a really good time on the roof top pool... I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this hotel...
It is true that you can hear the horn of the cars during the day if you are on the front of the hotel, but it is not that bad... and the neighborhood doesn't look that safe to me... but I had no problems at all being with my Filipina girlfriend...
But I recommend this hotel mostly for the staff, because they would do anything to make sure you are happy...
And if you have the chance to get a massage... I had the best massage of my life there...

“2010's best accomodating hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2010

The Hotel worked out perfectly for our time spent in Manila. The room was clean and spacious. There was free wifi and a nice pool on the roof deck(that our children have time to use, FUN!.) It is also convenient staying in this hotel because the malls are just walking distance from here. The staff was very courteous and they speak english confidently. They hooked us up with a taxi driver who took us on a 2-3 hour "tour" of Manila (one of the most beautiful places on the planet) and the next day booked us on a full-day trip to Palawan. There was a great buffet breakfast that was included in the cost of the room. Overall, it was a nice 3 star hotel that met our needs perfectly. All i can say is that this is a good stay-in for a vacation day.

“better not”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 May 2010

the photos on the website of this hotel are misleading. it is located in a seedy area of Cubao, Quezon City, and though close to the developing Araneta center area, is not the wisest place to check into if you are a foreigner, especially caucasian. the place itself is quite run down, sheets are threadbare, and tables and counters in the ktchen and dining area show that they have not been well maintained or cleaned over the years. we booked a standard room at first, but found out it was too cramped and upgraded to a suite. both rooms did not have peepholes so if someone knocks on your door, there is no way of knowing who is on the other side.
we did not feel very safe at this hotel, and decided to check out the same day. we felt bad for the staff, who were quite polite and quick to respond to our requests.

“Basic Facilities NOT provided”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2010

Location was good but one of main reasons why we chose Fernandina because it was advertised that you can do your tea and cooking because we stayed with extended family. Well, we found it too late and had to deal with the following:

1. NO basic facilities such as water kettle, coffee, tea, toaster or microwave (it's ok without microwave). Yes they provide hot water but you have to ring them each time so you buy your own coffee & tea. You are then forced to order coffee from their restaurant which in my opinion is overpriced. A can of coke or sprite is PHP87.00.
2. In addition to the basic facilites, the place is a bit old and there is not even a Hair Dryer, it's a basic item for any travelling individual especially we were out and about with functions to attend. to be fair, if you ask they'll deliver one to you but the dryer wasn't fully working and did not bother using it as it didn't look safe to use, it kept jamming.
3. Don't take the rooms next to the pool and the restaurants because there is so much NOISE when the staff are cleaning up until around 1:00am. In fairness to the staff, they've got a job to do and were always helpful. You won't be able to sleep until they're finished cleaning up so all you hear are dragging of chairs and tables while you stare at the ceiling wondering when they will be finished.
4. The room doesn't look very clean. You can start looking at the switch lights, which you don't even want to touch because it's got so much sticky dirt around it. The supposed to be kitchen area doesn't look clean enough.
5. There were presence of ants in our bedroom and kitchen.
6. The room was very smelly when we arrived so I bought a toilet/room disinfectant and deodoriser which we used greatly during our stay.
7. We thought that part of the deal was to get a buffett style breakfast, but actually not because they insist that they deliver it to your room. I'm not sure of the reason maybe because of the daily functions so you don't really get to indulge in that kind of breakfast you're imagining.

To be fair, here are the following positive aspects:
1. Great location - near shopping centres so you save on taxi fares.
2. Excellent staff - from security guards, reception, maintenance to the wait staff etc. I'll hire these people anytime. Very friendly and efficient people!

Are we going back there? I'll think twice about it. You may think that you'll get good value for money but the extra coffee you buy and the other inconveniences mentioned above, well, I'll start shopping for other places next time. Or maybe, we just had the bad days, who knows?

I hope that this review will be taken postively for their own sake and of course for the next tourists!
