While reading many bad reviews of this hotel, I do think if the guest is willing to stretch the budget for a few more dollars, you will get a clean, and comfortable room. The hotel is not locating at any dogdy areas as claim as there are such areas from Europe to China as well. The back streets are all well lighted up and I felt save. There's always a hotel security standing outside the hotel, instead of hidinng behind the glass door to enjoy the air condition.
I came to this hotel for the spectacular golden view of the twin tower. I was in KL for a week ,staying at the Sheraton Imperial but I choose to spend the next 3 days at this hotel. The hotel is surrounded by the old charming residential area, as well as eatery places of all varieties. It's a location with unassuming gesture of KL people and you don't need to flash your branded swim trunks or LV bags to show that you are the socialites or pretentious rich, It's a down to earth neighbourhood which was extablish in the 70s. It's a character that brings you back to Kuala Lumpur city in the early 70s, but with a spectacular view of the KL twin tower.
The room:
I make the booking for club room via internet, just a few hours of my arrival. I could not get the room ending '5' as it has a perfect view of the twin tower. However, the malaysian receptionist(start with 'z' I think) told me that she would try to book the room for me the next day. Gloria and the other Sabahan staff were courteous .
The room is clean, had issue with the air condition and shower head but the problems were rectify in less than 30 minutes. The maintenance left with a smile and 'wish you a pleasant stay, sir.'
I moved to the room with the twin tower view the next day in late afternoon and I extended one more day. Extra towels and toothbrush are upon requests and I have no problem with that.
The service:
the moment I arrived, I was greeted with a warm smile from the Bangladeshi bellboy. The receptionist, Gloria, acknowledging my arrival upon entering the door, with "welcome to Citrus Hotel'. Overall, the ambiance is genuinely hospitable, and friendly, unlike those superficial greetings from some 5 star hotels. I gave a good tips to the bellboy for being courteous and polite.
Club floor is a little disappointing in terms of the beverages provided. Previously, the assorted Dilmah teas were served but now, it's only Liptons and not so tasty coffee. Again, the service was good. The staff even told me that she would be back in a few minutes when she needed to go to the office downstairs.
Housekeeping service is swift and prompt. I asked for extra pillows because I prefer firmer pillows and it was delivered with a smile. Extra tooth was also given as it was given only one tooth brush.
Improvements and suggestions:
Cut fruits are soaked with sugary syrup as they were sweet outside and bland inside. Tea and coffee are quite diluted. Omelette were cooked and left at the egg station and not able to make all egg white omelette as per staff. It was alright for me as there's no point to be greeted with 'good morning' and starting my day with 'bad morning.'
Water pressure is not strong for shower and some water leaked out from the faucet when using the shower head. A better toilet paper perhaps on the club floor as the existing one was quite rough.
Air condition seems to be cooler at the corridors comparing with the club floors or the room. Something to look into for the next renovation perhaps.
A better towel supplier perhaps as the towels are not bleaching water and it could due to the water and lack of detergents.
Overalls:
1. good value, go for club or executive room as it is worth the money in terms of comfortability.
2.Book directly on the hotel web site for better deal.
3. better wi fi on smart phones on 9th floor and good wi fi for laptops.
4. yes, I highly recommend this .
Room Tip: go for executive or club rooms. Inform the agents that you would like the have rooms with a view but...
