“Top class hotel ... even for a Malaysian!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

As a Malaysian working permanently in Singapore and got a chance to travel back on business trip is amazing itself. Getting into this hotel makes the trip a superb trip!

It was all because we had to work until very late and our client's office is located nearby, I decided to stay at this hotel instead of home (which is also in KL).

You don't usually book a hotel at your hometown, do you?

This hotel is located in the heart of KL, within walking distance to the luxury shopping mall located next to the famous Twin Towers. You have good coffee shops, branded shops and good bars around.

Views at night is something you can't miss. There is also a public park nearby where you can do a little picnic. Getting a taxi through the reception is a must, don't be a hero, try to bargain for a taxi on the road. Even as a Malaysian, walking out from a hotel like this - people assume you are foreigners!

This is a good place to pick if you have limited times in KL but you want to explore around, have a good relaxing night and good sleep. Pick this!

Breakfast is awesome too

“Best location & good value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Traders hotel has the most efficient and friendly staff. This hotel is located near the KLCC and the view of the famous Petronas tower is simply awesome. We stayed in the Club room and were given quick check-in and check-out on the exclusive reception for club class. The rooms are nice and the bathrooms are well equipped and have quality toiletries. The club floor offers free afternoon drinks and snacks and the staff would bring you freshly prepared snacks to try out. This is good value for money. Breakfast was quite good and there was a huge variety of food at the table. There is a buggy service to KLCC so if you don't want to walk, you can take a comfortable ride up the towers. You can catch a hop-on-hop-off bus near the KLCC. Due to its prime loaction, pleasant friendly staff I would like to return again.

“Fantastic location and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

This hotel is just the right distance to the Petronas Towers: it is across a beautiful park (with a jogging trail) from them, so it has an unobstructed view. The service is excellent. To give an example, I left some clothes in my room and when I discovered that a few days later I contacted the hotel. They had them in lost and found and they delivered them to my next location, Pulau Penang; much appreciated.

Room Tip: If view is more important than king size bed, let them know at check-in.

“Great location, perfect view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I will be upfront about one sore spot, but the rest was perfect. This is a high-end, beautiful hotel and perfect location. An amazing view of the twin towers. Sore spot? When I asked the concierge for specific instruction on walking through the park into the mall area, she ignored me several times to attend to one of her fellow staff members - not with a customer. This is unacceptable for any Hotel, let alone a Shangri-La property.

That aside, everything else was spectacular. MUST have the buffet lunch at the hotel's restaurant. I promise, this is NOT your every day buffet and you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: request upper floor, Twin Towers view.

“Not the most pleasant experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I am staying at this hotel with a group of colleagues travelling for an event at the convention centre, which is just right next door.

In terms of location, this hotel is quite good. Covered walkway through the convention centre and underground tunnel to Suria KLCC, which also connects with the LRT KLCC Station. I am staying in the city-view room but I can see the twin towers the moment I step outside the hotel.

The service within this hotel is what got me. Last year, we had trouble with documents and shipments sent to be kept at this hotel, and somehow the hotel managed to lose that (eventually we figured out that they have it sent back to the courier to be sent away after they've signed for it!). This year, the shipment stayed within the hotel with much mix-up, thankfully, but they manage to do something else wrong.

First, when I checked in, they had my dates wrong - they had me leaving a day earlier even though I wrote very clearly on my reservation form (we did group booking) on when and which flight I am leaving with.

And what really upset me was that, even though our group book through the same booking form, we are getting drastically different treatments. Some of our group members are getting newspaper delivered to the door, fruits in their room, and breakfast with the package, and some of us are getting nothing, even though we are paying for the same deal. Worse yet, when we try to get our breakfast back (I don't really care for the newspaper and the fruits), and bringing our confirmation to them, they refuse, saying that we need to have a specific code from reservation, which reservation never manages to produce.

The hotel claims to offer wifi access throughout now, and they do - but having wifi (even full reception with all the bars filled) does not guarantee that you will get reception within the room. For example, in my room, the only way I can have a decent skype conversation with my friend is if I am lying on the bathroom floor by the tub. If I wanted to sit comfortably on the couch they have in the room? Sorry, no connection.

And I have to agree with another reviewer above - the music is extremely loud from the hallway!

For the price they are charging, I would much rather stay at Hilton or Novotel or Crowne Plaza, and that's likely what I will do the next time.

Thank you to the writer for posting this review.

We are familiar with this situation and confirm that the booking made by the company was one day short of the guests expectation. At registration our colleague extended the departure date.

Reading between the lines I can also confirm that all guests in this group booking had a breakfast inclusive rate however this would not be refundable if not consumed. There is no breakfast process that requires a guest to present confirmation of pre-purchase. We simply record the guest room number and post appropriately.

At registration guests have the option of selecting a local and international newspaper perhaps this option was missed when completing the registration documents at check-in.

Wifi and broadband internet is absolutely free at Traders Hotel. We have run a diagnostic check on this guestroom and cannot identify any fault in the wifi signal strength and data speed. There have been issues with the latest iPad and iPhone devices of which our IT team are more than happy to assist our guests with solutions.

We are investigating the comments relating to the courier transactions from the previous stay. I can add that our Concierge will not accept a package or documents for a guest who is not in house for obvious reasons. However we will accept for forward booking when we have prior knowledge. There were no issues with the courier service during this stay.

We are humble hoteliers and request of any guest that if you are facing a challenge let us know so that we can correct the problem while still in the hotel. I do hope that we have an opportunity to recover the perceptions the guest has of our colleagues and the hotel.
