I live in Singapore as an expat, and decided to go for a weekend spa break with my partner to KL. After reading reviews on tripadvisor.com, we decided to book our stay in the Maya.
On arrival we were greeted well, and the room we booked was really impressive with design and layout. The first thing I did was take a look out the window to get a view of the Petronas Towers (the main reason we booked this hotel) and couldn't help but notice the grubby finger marks all over the windows.
The bathroom was lovely, bath big enough for two and a huge separate shower. Likewise the king size bed was great, with a choice of pillows. The 1st night we stayed was perfect.
The next day, we had our spa experience, with traditional malayisan massages which were very good. I would highly recommend this spa. I particularly loved the hydrotherapy pool, with the view of the tree, really beautiful.
The problems really started that evening after coming in from dinner, I went to run a bath and the water came out a yellowish/brown color from all the taps in the bathroom. We called the maintenance people and he came up and spent an hour in and out of our room trying to solve the problem. By midnight, we asked him to leave and come back in the morning.
Morning came and no-one had fixed the water, we had a bus to catch in a few hours and really needed a shower before a 4 hr trip. After several difficult calls, they sent someone up and moved us to the nearest available room for a shower which had not even been cleaned yet by the former guests!
When it came to settling the bill, we were of course very unhappy. They offered us a 6% discount after waiting nearly 45 minutes for a manager to approve this and speaking to 3-4 equally useless staff.
Really shame that this happened on our last night, completely ruined our stay. We will certainly not return.
