“Apart from the brown water, great stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

I live in Singapore as an expat, and decided to go for a weekend spa break with my partner to KL. After reading reviews on tripadvisor.com, we decided to book our stay in the Maya.
On arrival we were greeted well, and the room we booked was really impressive with design and layout. The first thing I did was take a look out the window to get a view of the Petronas Towers (the main reason we booked this hotel) and couldn't help but notice the grubby finger marks all over the windows.
The bathroom was lovely, bath big enough for two and a huge separate shower. Likewise the king size bed was great, with a choice of pillows. The 1st night we stayed was perfect.
The next day, we had our spa experience, with traditional malayisan massages which were very good. I would highly recommend this spa. I particularly loved the hydrotherapy pool, with the view of the tree, really beautiful.
The problems really started that evening after coming in from dinner, I went to run a bath and the water came out a yellowish/brown color from all the taps in the bathroom. We called the maintenance people and he came up and spent an hour in and out of our room trying to solve the problem. By midnight, we asked him to leave and come back in the morning.
Morning came and no-one had fixed the water, we had a bus to catch in a few hours and really needed a shower before a 4 hr trip. After several difficult calls, they sent someone up and moved us to the nearest available room for a shower which had not even been cleaned yet by the former guests!
When it came to settling the bill, we were of course very unhappy. They offered us a 6% discount after waiting nearly 45 minutes for a manager to approve this and speaking to 3-4 equally useless staff.
Really shame that this happened on our last night, completely ruined our stay. We will certainly not return.

“Excellent stay at Hotel Maya”

Stayed here for 3 nights from 30th DEC to 2 Jan and really enjoyed my stay...
Positives...
+ Location:Right opposite to Zouk night club and a 5 min walk to Petronas Towers (KLCC), A 5 min Walk to the MRT station (One way to Bukit Bintang was a couple MYR, Frequency of the trains are excellent) Every station stops are a few mins apart. (Time saver, value for money and very convenient)
+Rooms(Studio, 22nd floor) : Medium sized, nice clean rooms with huge windows with the Petronas Towers view and nice big fancy transparent bathroom(Curtains are on outside) with a rain shower and big tub.Basic TV with limited channels.Free coffee maker too.
+Staff :Good,Check in was quick.Friendly staff overall.
+Food: Excellent variety of food for breakfast in veg and non veg, loads of options to choose.
+Pool:The Hydrotherapy pool is good for relaxing but definitely not for swimming as its small.
+SKY LOUNGE from 9pm -11pm where you have a wonderful view of the Petronas n KL tower, they provide complimentary cakes, cookies coffee/tea etc everyday.(Must visit)
+Nice touch with complimentary fruit, biscuits etc which was provided after room service everyday, a huge collection of movies is available in the reception which can be watched at your room, a couple of shuttle services is also provided to shopping areas.
Negatives: Nothing.
Final thoughts :Hotel Maya is a nice boutique hotel and I would stay here again,i would recommend to others, I got a good deal for it (around 100$ in New Years) so it was definitely value for money.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the higher floors, and ask in advance via email etc for the rooms facing the Petron...

“Not a Five Star Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

This was the second hotel we stayed at in our two month vacation and since we had just come from another five star hotel to hotel maya we were quite disappointed, dont be fooled by their pictures on their website its far from its hay day. Our room was very worn out, the bed was hard as a rock the bath leaked and the tiles were falling off, we stayed in nicer rooms in three star hotels. The staff were not very friendly, we called twice to get our bags brought down as we were checking out and our hotel taxi was waiting for us and after 20-30min we brought it down our selves and then they told us off for making their taxi wait and just gave us a blank stare when we explained we have been waiting 20min for the bell boy to bring down our bags. The food is horrible especially room service, the food in the hotel was the worst food we had during our two month vacation. The Pool isnt as nice as the pictures look its definatly not a kids pool and quite dangerous as the tiles are quite sharp and slippery which caused two cuts on my foot. If your looking for a real five star hotel or even four star dont stay here, if you want a place close then petrona towers then your in luck.

“Spectacular views”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

This was the 1st hotel we stayed at on our 6 week tour of Malaysia and it was selected for its proximity to the Petronas Towers. In this respect the hotel did not disappoint as the views from the suite and the skybar were spectacular.
The suite was large in floor space, but was obviously in need of a renovation and upgrade of fixtures and furniture. There were obvious signs of water damage in the bathroom along with several areas where the paint was peeling.
The lounge was tired and in need of replacement. Various other pieces of furniture were also showing the signs of long use.
The breakfast buffet had an excellent selection as did the room service menu.
Staff performed in a perfunctionary manor when catering for requests, however they lacked any warmth or personality which detracted from our overall impression of this hotel.
The hotel's location was okay and within walking distance of the Petronas Towers, KLCC, Suria and the Monorail, but quite a distance from the main shopping district of Bukit Bintang.

“Great stay at Maya”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Couple from Malta, stayed there for 5 nights beginning of December 2011.

We were given a room on the 17th floor facing the Petronas towers, the view is just amazing. The location of the hotel is really good. This is because apart from being centrally located and just opposite the KL towers and shopping centre (KLCC) / food courts, it is within 10 minutes walking distance to the monorail called bukit nanas which can take you to bukit bintang where all the night life is going on.

Room was really modern and nicely laid out. We had a minor issue with the shower and it was promptly fixed.
Toiletries supplied were of the highest quality.
Fast free Wifi in the rooms.
Supplied with 2 water bottles each day and some snacks
Hydrotherapy pool is powerful and refreshing
Excellent Sky lounge with great views with complementary tea / coffee in the evenings
Staff is friendly and professional
Clean hotel room and linen
We were lucky to have a quiet room so no disturbance at night by next door tenants
They serve an excellent and varied buffet breakfast with both continental and asian cuisine
Air-conditioning in the room is powerful and refreshing

CONS.
the windows are not double glazed and we were hearing motorbikes racing the motorway and general traffic up to the early hours but still managed to get sleep.

Recommend
Make sure you ask for a view of the twin towers and ask for a high up floor.
