“Enjoyable Stay at Federal Hotel Kuala Lumpur”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

We stayed there from 12 to 14 Jan 2012. Although the hotel was very old, the furniture and fittings were well maintained. Service was prompt when the shower head and tap had to be replaced. The counter staff were professional and courteous and spoke good English.

The aircon in the toilet could be switched off (which is a first for me) and I was impressed.

The location was perfect : next to BB Park, Low Yat Plaza and within walking distance to Berjaya Times Square (at the back of Federal Hotel). Food was cheap and easily available. If you do not like fast food, the nearby restaurants offer good food and the prices are reasonable.

We definitely recommend this hotel and will stay there again.

“Entrance was Good, but Need some renovation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

the hotel was in perfect location, we can go to the pavilion and there's lot of good food in that area. the Entrance was good, but somehow old hotel really need to be re-touch and some renovation. maybe the bed age nearly 15 years old so it really cant keep our back bone straight when we sleep, i feel sore all over my body. breakfast was good, but the service was bad.

“Not so great.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Travel date: 7-9 January 2012
Number of travellers: 4
Number of rooms: 2 (1 superior room, 2 single beds & 1 deluxe room, 1 queen bed)
Deluxe room was a voluntary upgrade in which we agreed to pay the differences.
Room number: 715 (superior) 738 (deluxe room)

Location: Very good. Near to Sungei Wang shopping mall. Alot of convenient stores around.
Check in: Was fast & swift.

Bad points:
Room 715.
1. No wifi connections, eventough we have obtained the right passwords.
Was never able to get a connection.
2. Poor reception service when questioned about the wifi. They seemed unable to accomodate our enquiries. At one point, Rizal (the receptionist) sounded so rude, we decided to escalate to his manager.
3. The water jet spray wasnt working.
4. The window latch was broken.
5. The aircon was barely there.
6. Manager promised that the technician will fix our problems at 1030am, no one came.

Room 738.
1. Cockroaches everywhere. Not one, not two. But many.
2. Bathtub was dirty.
3. One thing that really puzzled us was the TV. The occupants in the room opposite of us had a huge flat screen tv in their room, our was a small, bulky (old fashion tv).
The channels was local and boring.
4. Booked for smoking room, but when upgraded, we received a non smoking room.
When we asked for a change, we were told we need to wait till afer 2pm.
5. The safety box was spoilt. (would recommend other to check before you placed any valuables inside)
6. The staff changed the password to our wifi on the 3rd day of our stay, when we called they just conveniently said "oh sorry, we change it".

Overall:

Yes, location was good. It was convenient for us.
But given the poor service we received, we would have preferred to stayed at other hotels.
It was quite sad coz we read the reviews around, and everything seemed quite amazing.
Lesson learnt. We wont be coming back for sure.

Room Tip: Not 715 & 738.

“Very old hotel but in a great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

Stayed only once at this hotel.
It's in the center of Bukit Bintang area, so that's a great plus (and just in front of one of the few vegan-vegetarian-macrobiotic restaurants around, if you care about that).
The overall impression is of a very old hotel which surely was impressing and majestic in its times. Now it's just old but decently maintained.
My room was nothing exceptional: bed was ok, TV was ancient and little choice of programs, toiled alright... overall it was ok and was clean enough. Maybe I noticed less available power points that I would have liked but that's not uncommon.
The biggest low of my stay was the toilet itself: over 6 days, the toilet got stuck 5 times and every time I had to ask for someone to come to fix it. Not convenient at all, without talking about the embarassment of the situation!

Another plus is the irish pub at the lower floor: with decent food, live bands some evenings and free wifi (great place to work if you go there in the afternoon with your laptop).

Overall speaking, there are cheaper or same price better solutions around, unless you must stay exactly at the center of Bukit Bintang.

“Budget priced, good location,”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

This hotel very convenient to most things, centre of Kuala Lumpur, Bukit Bintang,
Restaurant has good meals, breakfast buffet is good,
The room we had, needed some plumbing work to stop the noise of toilet cistern, so a word at the desk, and was fixed,
The location is fantastic, but the hotel is old and does need a bit of a make over, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for,
I would suggest asking for a room high up, and in a newer wing of the hotel if possible,
I would consider going again, I have been to worse close to home.

Room Tip: ask for high level floor/room, , seems maybe better outlook, maybe overlooking the pool
